I don't follow Olympics that much, but I am just so happy to see a very openly gay man win Gold in Olympics and just openly talks about his husband and his son at their press conference, its just so refreshing, while listening, it also feels natural, I am so happy. Congrats Matty and Tom. Greetings from The Philippines
He is the first openly Gay athlete to win an Olympic gold medal and it can only be good for the future of athletes feeling they can be who they are and come out and be accepted for who they are and not feel as if they have to hide their sexuality. I have followed Tom since he was so young, the BBC produced a documentary on Tom before the 2008 Olympic games and I am so proud for Tom and Matty on their achievements.
I’m pretty sure matty doesn’t mind that Tom got more of the questions. He is a pretty reserved person in public and in synchro you have a clear leading and supporting role, Tom Daley is an icon in British diving, matty is only just getting started, we’ll be hearing much more of him in the coming years tho I’m sure :))

Matty is no second fiddle. Matty is one class act! Humble, kind, first time at the Olympics to perform and conduct himself in such a professional manner, I feel so proud of him . A true friend to and student of Tom. They are equally spectacular!
Tom is so well spoken, Matty keeps it short and sweet, like a true Yorkshireman. Huge well done to both and their team.

Matty is so sweet and clever but i definitely think he is more reserved, at least in public so i don't think he minded Tom talking more and getting more of the questions....Tom has a lot of history and people know more about him so it makes sense people had more to ask him. Matty has plenty of fans though....and watching videos of them together are really enjoyable. Tom could have a career doing a talk show or sports commentary after he retires for sure.

Matty has come a long way since his early shy days. He is confident and knows his worth on his own.
I love Tom showing how anyone can be successful, no matter your age, personality, sexuality etc. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I agree with what he’s said; it does sometimes feel like being who I am makes me different, and that who I am is holding me back, but Tom is a huge reason to not feel like that. Congratulations lads, you both deserve those medals so much.

But at what cost? UK diving is bad, so for Tom Daley to have won gold, his training must have been horrific, 24/7 inhumane hours behind closed doors in order to have gotten good enough to beat the Chinese diver. Poor tom just wanted to live a normal life.
Tom is definitely media trained. The way he answer all of the question with confidence are amazing. Matty is awesome too 💞

Ignore. As I do. I'm so proud of both the boys, and I got hassled for explaining how emotional I had gotten whilst watching Adam Peaty, and these two (young lad's, still in my opinion, as is Peaty), break boundaries, give the UK something to get excited about, regardless of sexual orientation etc. I was thrilled, my sexual leanings are private, and have no room for my emotions of happiness, to all our medal winners!.

During lockdown I always worked out with tom daleys videos. Its almost like a friend has won gold in the olympics. I could not be happier and more proud. Congratulations.

This is going to sound so bloody corny but it’s the truth… so forgive me for any awkwardness…
I sat here so relieved, so happy, and so proud of you and Matty and your whole dive team. Getting to watch you and Matty from so far away (in the USA) all this time through your social media platforms and videos has made me feel a part of your journey as, if nothing else, your friend who is cheering you both on and wanting the best for you. Silly I know. But it’s how I truly feel. I found myself crying through this video because you both are sitting there as gold medalists, because you speak so well, that Matty moved to London not knowing anyone but basically you, and that you instantly became his family and helped him start a new chapter in his life. I recall moving across the states away from home not knowing a soul and how scary it was. So it’s heart warming that you are that kind person you are.
Anyway, I know it probably means nothing coming from me but all the same, my husband and I are quite proud of you and Matty. Way to go!

Well, without tom Matty would get 0 medals. Also, Matty flopped his 4th dive. He won Gold thanks to Tom Being huge name in diving.

@@demodexo6742 the lowest execution score was 8.0 - what were you watching? Tom needed Matty for the medal as much as Matty needed Tom . They’ve proved themselves as a partnership. Many athletes compete in team events and not the solo event of their sport (rowing, bobsleigh, tennis, running relay teams etc etc…) and they may or may not achieve medals if they were to compete as a solo. this event is Matty’s discipline and he’s proved he is a world class athlete and deserving gold medalist. I have seen also on some of Tom’s videos from the more recent competitions that there are times when Matty has nailed a dive and Tom has made a mistake - he always says anything can happen on the day. Your commented suggested Matty is nothing without Tom - Matty will inspire a whole range of kids to dive just like Tom did. Both of them remarkable athletes.

Congratulations Tom and Matty, you are such great guys! I am from Germany and did not know you before, but after this press conference I was so touched by you and so I became your fan. You are idols not only for sportsmen but for all people. Love you..
Tom being very openly proud is genuinely so inspiring, especially after hearing about how Russian and Chinese media outlets have been bashing him (and the LGBT+ community in general) with homophobic comments. It takes a lot of courage and confidence to be this comfortable with yourself and especially on an international stage as an athlete.

Hmm. I read the articles about Russian media outlets being homophobic, but do you have a link to where Chinese media outlets were bashing Tom for being LGBT or did you just make that up? Because from what I've seen it seems like Chinese people really love Tom Daley, in fact he was trending on their social media because everyone fell in love with his knitting. I wasn't able to find any Chinese media articles that bashed Tom Daley.
