Yea, I thought of that too. Pretty sure it was a decent goalie he did it to also, nice move :) Funny how such a thing can make people remember you for it.

Owen lives near me on my local golf club. I’ll see him out in the backyard with his boys on their roller hockey rink slapping it around. Maybe we will see them in an upcoming draft class?
Owen Nolan was my favorite player when he was in Quebec, and I was so excited when he was traded to my favorite team. The All-Star Game called shot was amazing, especially happening in SJ, but my favorite moment was that red line goal in Game 7 against the Blues. The Captain carried the 8-seed Sharks over the President's Cup winner, and man, it was glorious!
I owe this man everything, he is the reason that the name “Nolan” is in every chel game, and as someone with the last name Nolan I greatly appreciate it.
I watched him during a preseason game when he signed what I believe was a PTO with the Canucks in 2010. He scored the first goal for Vancouver in the game against my Oilers. Surprised he didn't end up signing with the Canucks after that
His goal from center ice to help the underdog Sharks knock off the #1 Blues in 2000 is a memorable one. He brought grit and skill to the rink every night.
Damn you! I keep trying to forget it. (Not serious - all good friend) The absolute worst choke in my team's long history of choking. I have great respect for Owen Nolan, and he has many highlight reel goals. Including in the series you mention. However the center ice one is really more of a Roman Turak mistake.
I wish the ref’s bad call in 94 would have not happened, falling to the Marc Messier Rangers who went out & win the cup that year. Québec had the tools to go all the way. I remember Nolan led the NHL in goals in the first half of 91-92… I can’t find anywhere the exact stat how many after 30 games or 40 games. A fun to watch player. Nice video!
I think that you should do a career video on Mats Naslund. He was a great player to watch for the Habs in the mid 80's. I think he was over shadowed by Bobby Smith and Bob Gainey. Did not have great career stats but he did have good years. Just a thought. Love your videos.
I was gonna say: While we're at talented swedes, Kent Nilsson! Maybe a 2-in-1?! But then I found out there's already a Nilsson video - and that's what I'm watching next. But anyway, I'm in favor of Naslund too!
He was a force out there though very inconsistent offensively. I remember him most as a SJ player. We had teams in a Fantasy league in late 90's/early 00's (I think it was called smallworld) and I think the guy that won had Nolan and V Bure on his team in 99/00... it turned out to be pretty good picks that year.
Buster is a much loved figure in San Jose to this day. When I saw it live I didn't realize that he was calling his shot in the all star game. We thought he was just pointing at Hasek. He had a hat trick that night in his home rink, but somehow the MVP went to Recchi. Rumor has it that the voting was closed after the second period, before Nolan got his trick. All I know is that we were chanting for it, and shocked that he didn't get it.
Nolan missed the 93-94 season due to a left shoulder injury sustained in the playoffs the previous season. Don't remember what the whole story was with the rehabilitation of the shoulder, but if I remember correctly he didn't have surgery on it until November or December of 93, which caused him to miss pretty much the entire year.
His last NHL game (preseason) was against the Sharks as a member of the Canucks. I really hoped he would have made the team, being my 2nd fav player behind Neely.
I remember him in Minnesota and the stories about then coach Jacques Lemire letting him travel in jeans and t-shirts when all the rest of the players had a dress code. (hockey players are always dressed the best) He just had that much clout and respect as a long time player.
Owen Nolan was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and his family immigrated to Canada to escape the "Irish troubles" the terrorist conflict which ended in the mid 1990s. Love Nolan as he was a gritty, tough player and a scorer.
