  • "Seven Stars, and Seven Stones and One White Tree."
Minas Tirith has always been one of my favorite pieces of Middle-Earth Architecture. From the seven tiers of the city, to the huge stone walkway jutting out from the center; the white tree at the top of the citadel, to the way the white stone walls reflect the sunlight. As the main structure in "The Return of the King," I feel like Minas Tirith deserves a spot next to Helm's Deep.
    The City
Compressing an entire city into one reasonably sized model was no easy task, however the majority of the relevant details are still faithfully recreated. These include:
The White Tree of Gondor: A small, withered tree on the edge of the fountain in the citadel
The Main Gates: Two massive doors protect the entrance to the city, surrounded by tall towers from which Gondor archers can take down attackers. There is only one thing that might be able to penetrate the gates...
Trebuchets: The city's long range offensive weapons can hurl any large objects at the attackers.
Stairs, and lots of them: How else are you supposed to get from the bottom to the top?
Funeral Pyre: The saddening scene where Denethor and Faramir are lit ablaze
White Tower: Standing high above the battle field, everything can be seen from here
    The Siege Weapons
Mordor has designed siege machines specifically designed to destroy Minas Tirith and put an end to the realm of Men. These fearsome objects are:
Grond: Only the largest and most terrifying battering ram ever created, it has the head of a wolf, and flame spitting from its mouth. As the ram is bashed into the gate, pushing the back will light up the flame, using a light brick.
Siege Tower: This reinforced tower on wheels is impregnable to arrows, and provides orcs a safe trip to the walls of the city. The top front can hinge down to form a walkway across.
Catapult: Although fairly simple compared to the other things, they nevertheless can pack a serious punch, capable of clearing out those pesky soldiers along the parapet.
    Minifigures
There is a fairly well distributed mix of both sides, so you can create as many epic scenes as possible.
    Here they are:
Denethor: The Steward of Gondor. He has lost faith in victory, and is maddened with grief with the death of his eldest son, Boromir.
Faramir: The "little brother" of Boromir. He is tasked with the impossible task of reclaiming Osgiliath, to appease his father.
Gandalf: Gandalf the White brings hope to the resistance of Gondor.
Pippin: Pledged to serve the lord Denethor, Pippin fights alongside the soldiers to protect the city.
Eowyn: The shieldmaiden of the Rohirrim, she decides to face the horrors of battle to defend her people.
Citadel Knight: Guards the Citadel and the Steward of Gondor.
Gondor Soldiers x7: Protect the walls of Minas Tirith.
Civilians x5: Live in the city.
    Gothmog: Orc General.
Orc x7: Sent to destroy Minas Tirith.
Troll: Pushes the siege tower, and uses catapult.
I think Minas Tirith would make an excellent addition to any "The Lord of the Rings" fan's shelf, as it is one of the most Iconic castles ever to be conceived. Not only does the model strike awe into the hearts of people who see it, but it will be a rewarding building experience as well. If you would like to see this project become a reality, support it and tell your friends! Thanks!
