  • Merry Christmas from the Sharettes! This Christmas carol is yet another favorite of our family's, and it's been a joy to bring this video to you.2020 has been a wild ride, but we're grateful that the challenges this year brought also gave us a chance to grow closer together and spend a little more time making music.

The Alfred Burt carols are among the loveliest Christmas songs written, and your renditions of them are simply beautiful. Thank you!

A lovely Alfred Burt carol exquisitely done! This one in particular has those haunting harmonies which evoke the mysterious hold of the Incarnation on the human imagination. I appreciate your family tradition of sharing a carol each Christmas, rather like Burt's custom of writing a carol each Christmas.

Signe, so glad you enjoyed it! We made another video singing another carol by the same composer. You can find it on this channel!

Alfred Burt wrote a dozen or more gorgeous carols before his untimely death at age 33 in 1954. They were first recorded in 1954 by Columbia Records on the album THE CHRISTMAS MOOD. You can listen to the entire album on RUclips.

Alfred Burt wrote some beautiful Christmas carols. We've recorded a few of them. This year we did "We'll Dress the House". We did it slower than recommended, but it's difficult to sing quickly and nail all the chords. The progressions are easier to appreciate if you "milk it". 🙂

@@robbiefl58 Thanks for sharing that information, Robbie. I was born in '58 and my parents introduced me and my siblings to Alfred Burt (and vocal jazz). We're passing it on to our children.

Beautiful setting of a neglected composer of carols!

I still can't get over your beautiful rendition of this song. A work week later I'm still playing this video regularly. This is an undiscovered gem of yt.
Have you ever heard "Midnight Sleeping Bethlehem" or the Polish lullaby "Lulajzé Jezuniu"? The last one especially might be worth a look for your treatment.

Thank you for your kind words, Matthias. We're so glad you like it. It is a beautiful song.
I haven't heard of the other songs you mentioned, but I will look them up. We're always looking for good material. Thanks for the tip! God bless.
