Question: when you use artillery strikes, why don't you use a physical unit instead of impact spawns? Is it because spawning an artillery piece would eventually end up in destroying the unit it is attacking or is it because a physical artillery unit won't work well without massive support?
I think it is because a physical unit would be too acurate and would slow down the op due to the amount of causalties. It would be cool however if he just put a squad guarding an artillary or anti-air emplacement and they could disable or use them to their advantage.
@@Teadon86 speaking from experience, the AI with artillery don't normally engage on their own, and even when they do its extremely accurate fire. If he used zeus to give them a fire mission, they would fire extremely close to where he puts it. Having a static emplacement to destroy would be cool.

What I've read about artillery is that it isn't that effective to destroy targets but to demoralize troops, it's a weapon of psychological warfare. It is odd that the AI can't handle communication between scouting units and artillery positions. It makes no sense that they haven't modeled this somehow; a scouting unit with radio communication that is able to extract a set of coordinates from a specific table or square they're observing, the more experienced the AI is the more accurate coordinates they extract, and then send it to an artillery position. Maybe that's how it is done now, I don't know, but it is absurd that artillery units have uneven performance between utter dominance and uselessness.

The only real way to order artillery to engage and destroy a target, or to keep players suppressed is for you yourself to command them from on the ground or in zeus. You give them the grid coordinates, then say how many rounds and of what type and they put down extremely accurate fire on that grid. Or you do the same thing in zeus. Artillery in arma normally either suppresses the playerbase or forces them to move. Normally Sorensic pops Red Smoke or Red flares in an area he is about to drop artillery. This forces the players to either take cover in buildings, or run for their lives.

The Malakorein elders rolls is mostly melee, but Arma does not have melee built in. That mod would need a melee mod and it would probably have a weird control making it not as fun. If they could find a way around that, then I would be down for it.

See, the first 45 minutes of this is the reason why I personally don't like these big scale Arma Zeus missions. The AI is just so retarded! If those squads actually moved in where the Zeus told them to, when the Zeus told them to, that tiny group would have been wiped out easily, even with the scorpion. But because of pathfinding bullshit, the squads attacked one at a time and were slaughtered. For me, that's so immersion breaking.
you don't want to wreck their shit. kind of takes away from the experience. Its kind of like playing co-op as opposed to multiplayer. You want them to have fun. Not get totally frustrated because they keep dying
Think of it like being a DM for Dungeons and Dragons, you want to challenge them not just kill them off, it ruins the fun having make another character (or in this case re-gear and travel back to the fight)

The drop pods are laggy, glitchy, and cause desync, but they are implemented and can work.

It's not really the AI's fault. Some maps aren't done properly for AI so they get confused.
