That's a great way to use one of your spare engines. Last year I bought a copy of David Therlby's Fraser Nash book to look for inspiration for my cyclekart project. I have a collection of bits stashed away as well. I'm thinking of the pretty 1922 brooklands 200 mile car Akela as inspirition.
Most likely going to use the 2 litre Ford but it's going to be lightened as much as possible, as per the Pietenpol plans. Henry Ford certainly liked cast iron!
Thanks, yes, the light and cowl look good. I think I shall eventually use the Ford engine, as much as a proper aero engine would be fun, it is also far more difficult to fit and engineer.
A fantastic fun project!! Minion would be a great name for it! I might have some bits and pieces I could donate for the project. Will look around in my many, many years accumulated piles of “stuff” Dan
Yes, it’s a good book, particularly the 1st edition which, so some unknown reason, has more photographs than subsequent editions. ‘Vintage Specials’ by John Bateman is also a good read.
Such an inspiration!! Than you for sharing such awesome information. I am anew subscriber my friend!!!...My plans right now are starting a RUclips channel and using the machine shop I have assembled to make parts for my Restomod projects. The first one is a 1928 Morgan/MG special 3 wheeler with 4 wheels. I am building a supercharged opposed twin engine from an experimental aircraft. I am casting an adapter out of aluminum to mate that engine to an MG 4 speed manual gearbox connected to an MG differential with juice brakes and beautiful wire wheels. It is an aircraft cloth stretched over a wooden frame over steel sprayed with plasticizer for durability. It will have a Brooklands style Boat-Tail and look exactly like a 20's airplane without a propeller or wings. The next project will be a Boat -Tail Pembleton style cycle car with a BMW R-100 turbocharged opposed twin also mated to an MG 4 speed manual gearbox ending in a 10 bolt limited slip differential and either ceconite covered or mild steel or aluminum painted dark sanguine red or British Racing Green. I am recovering from getting run over by an F350 on my 1957 Harley Panhead and I will be starting as soon as it is warm enough to work outside in the barn here in Pennsylvania. Hope to see you there ....I will be calling my channel Machines and Motors tentatively...
It’s going to have to wait until the Aeronca C2 has made more progress, althoughI’ll keep doing bits here and there. Particularly sorting out an engine. Not sure about paperwork as yet 🤔
Single Vehicle Approval for a "quadricycle" is not too difficult, it doesn't require any expensive laboratory testing just a simple inspection. One of the members of Cyclekarts GB has a road legal cart which is a scaled down copy of his vintage Riley.
You would be happy to hear, Aeronca 100 EC-NZI, formerly G-AEXD 1937-built machine was meticulously restored in 2019 and later sold to a group of FIO pilots who subsequently donated it to the Spanish organisation. It has been receiving maintenance in the Cuatro Vientos workshop and is expected to fly again in the near future 🙂💪
Are the non-airworthy Aeronca parts really non-airworthy? Likewise, when you rebuilt the Praga engine it looked like it might well be airworthy and you were being a bit fussy? That two litre Ford engine has to be the best option; it's useless as an aero engine and some of the Pietenpol mods are very suitable for a car engine anyway. Good project, hope it comes to fruition. Like the horn, very Jacques Tati!
I was watching a clip of Jacques Tati in the Salmson cyclecar last night, he was indeed the inspiration for messing with the horn 🤣 Your thoughts on the engine are noted with interest; the Ford would fit well and using a Ford chassis and engine might make a Ford logbook a sensible proposition?
Instead of wood why not quarter inch aluminum alloy bars drilled and threaded to tkae the screws. Would prime the aluminum to reduce bimetalic carrosion.
Was there something that offended you with my last comment to have you delete it? If so I apologize. It was never ment to be offensive. only to let you know that was enjoying your videos.
Hi Aaron. Thank you for your comments; occasionally, and for reasons quite beyond my understanding, RUclips comments disappear. It’s very irritating for obvious reasons. Please keep watching and commentating. Nick
Great bodge, a man truly after my own heart.
It’s the only only way, it’s the only trick to play ….

I was thinking cyclecar when my current aeroplane project is finished too..... I only lack all the parts! Following.
Are you building a Chilton?
JUJU was my build. I'm now on a DH85... must be mad@@FlyingForFunTrecanair
DH85 is a terrific machine 👍
Neat idea Nick! I have thought the motorcycle engine powered car would be neat also. I like what you did with the light and front chrome pieces

Oh fantastic, that would be helpful. It’s the MINION SPECIAL from now on 🤣
Will see what fun trinkets I can find for your project
Dan
If I'm ever looking for inspiration my go to book is specials by John Bolster, works every time, I'm generally in the shed for days after a good read.

@@FlyingForFunTrecanair I am almost finished making space in the barn so I can start working on my cyclecar!!!
@@Biokemist-o3k Excellent. I look forward to watching your videos.
hope we will see progress of it here on your channel 👍
sounds like great project
how do you get away with type approval?

It needed to be meticulously restored; last time I saw that aeroplane (around 1996) it was being badly bodged up in a cellar at Hanwell.

Oh I see the wood is temporary. That Ball trike is a Grand Prix not an Aero.
It is a MAG engined Grand Prix. I never said it was an Aero.
