A power meta would be interesting. I'm pretty sure my playgroups is very different than the actual meta. Also, I'm glad to see a tier-list that doesn't just abuse the top tier section, and just putting everything up there if it's even only, say, an 8/10.
"The meta" may only apply to the online TTS/TTPG players, I suppose. I've played in more or less in three different locations and meta can really vary depend upon the players, yes.
The last game I played I was the Winnu. I was the weakest militarily but I had made a strong allegiance with one of my neighbors. I took Mecatol round 2, started racking up points from controlling it, and just when the other players thought they had stopped me I popped my commander’s ability to use Imperialism to score the last two points I needed to win.
Just did about the same thing in my last game. Was able to swing 4 points in one round, ended up closing out the win with their commander before we hit stage 2. Underrated faction for sure!
Favourites for me: Naaz-Rokha, Argent, Empyrean, Ghosts, Muatt. Granted, Ireally enjoy the loopy factions that aren't necessarily the most powerful, but if they work, it's a hell of a ride! Least favourite: Vuul-Raith, Saar, Arborec, Yin, Mentak
Oh man Barony is the best. Can’t believe you feel that way! The trade good changes to barony that POK brought were absolutely insane. Their ground game with the mech felt powerful, but the best is that their constantly riding this battle of tradegoods. They need tradegoods to constantly deploy mechs, they need it to use their rerolls, but every sustain damage brings tg back. You ride a wave of power when your are successful, but sudden stark poverty causes you to drop significantly in power.
Also I agree about agenda pack idk if I’d pay premium money but I’d def shell out to get more interesting agendas. PoK brought some kind of interesting ones but the deck could def be beefed up more
This weekend we are playing Twilight Imperium with 7 players. Argent (me), Naaz-Rokha, Empyrean, Creuss, Xxcha, Sardaak and Mahact. First time we play TI4. Some of us played TI3 before. I'm looking forward to the new game.
I'm in a similar position. I'm between excitement over playing and fear that I'll rely entirely on the game owner for assistance doing anything. And of couse i want to win, otherwise why would i be researching to hard
I think my list would be vastly different. I'm much more of the diplomatic / shady playstyle. Very much "Littlefinger" energy with less backstabbing. The social aspect of the game is my favorite.
Played with the new Xxcha hero once, and we considered it to be very very broken. Might have to give it another go, but that one game scared us all quite a bit XD
So far loving the content due to circumstances me and my friend always wanted to play TI but couldn't find it in here until I ordered it from local amazon along with expansion. So far only one game I manage to play a 3 player one where we got L1z1x, muaat and Cabal (we choose a smaller pool of factions for draft and others were Jol-nar, Sardak and Naalu). I got the Cabal and won the game with a close call (points were literally 10, 9, 8) I will have next game tomorrow (literally in 12 hours) to set it before hand we decided on map and draft with a random generator. It will be a 5 player game with Sol, Argent, Titans, Ghosts (me) and whatever last player choose among remaining 6 faction in pool (yin, Arborec, Muaat, Mentak, Letnev, Cabal) Hopefully we will have some aggressive fun like last time :P I am very interested in Necro but it didn't come up in our pool of choices yet still I am glad I tried Cabal. (I want to play Necro because they feel like Borg from star trek with the technology steal and what not and in a sense with the capture mechanic Cabal were also a bit like Borg)
When you make a power list: Show overlays for components, like when you say “mirror computing” or “the jol nar hero ability”, if I don’t know what you’re talking about already I’ve got to go look it up. Thanks!
When you put Mentak at the bottom I knew your list was not for me. They are absolutely awesome. Mirror Computing is only really something you get in the final turns. If you do get it early you're going to be singled out as a bad guy. Their Ambush ability rules. And having lots of cruiser pirate ships is a blast. Absolutely in my top 3. Mentak is great especially if you have a Hacan player to steal from consistently. Overall your list was fun to listen to. It shows just how different game groups can be. And how differently people feel about factions.
I agree. I have also never experienced them as being overpowered. Most people I've played with put them in below average. All the more reason as to why I'm curious about the meta tier list.
It is so painfully to see mentak on that place, since 4 times in a row I had to play them due to random selection. Well, yes, they are kinda annoying to play against, but for me Naalu is the worst, not be able to attack them without losing your tokes and being attacked with dozens of fighters almost every round.
@@CardboardCrashCourse I'd be happy to consult or whatever if you wanted, or even just answer questions so you can get the full picture before doing your own v personal ranking.
If you ever do another Tier list, do you think it would be possible to use the "faces" of each faction, instead of the token symbol? I have trouble remembering faction sigils. Also, it would be cool if you started with the base game factions, built a tier list for the base game without PoK, then rearrange them for PoK, and then add the new factions. My group got into this game playing the base game, and so much content for the base game seems a little dated
really nice video, interesting to see all the different opinions. though i have not played all races yet i think yssaril or naaz-rokha would be my favourite. also happy to hear sardak guide is coming. one question i had was why does mentak take over the agenda phase? i dont believe they have any political abilities right?
They do not, you are correct. Thank you, and the N’orr guide was fun to make. I don’t know why I was thinking that trade goods could be spent in the agenda phase for a moment. Whoops!
So out of curiosity, cause I agree with you when it comes to the laws, have you tried Shattered Ascension? I been trying it recently with a friend and 100% I would pay to have their agenda system and laws added to TI4. Though of course there would need to be a few changes to make it all work.
@@CardboardCrashCourse Well me and a friend just tried it the other day just doing a 1v1 to understand some of the mechanics, cause it just a "bit" different from TI4 which is what we came from, and so far my favorite mechanic is how agendas work. Pretty much each players draw two political cards and then places one down in the "Twilight Council" at the start of the game. Then if someone picks the assembly card, it kind of like the politics card from TI4, then the person using assembly can either claim the speaker token and and pick three agenda, however you can not pick your own. The other option is to give the speaker token to someone else and then you can select any agenda to vote on in the council and pick 3 more agendas that you either will also vote on or discard. Then when player votes you vote all at once with all your votes between all the different agendas (or one if you picked only one).
