Too right! The only downside is probably having to spend the first lap seeing when to use the ability. But once you get a feel for it, it really is the best way to get ahead!
A couple hints to help a bit. Im doing the races now and i stopped at odin for today. Ive beaten mostly all of them so far in 1 try others 2 attempts. I use the top row only depending on the stage. Its not only the big short cuts that help but the little stuff. For instance you can run along the sideline instead of the water and you'll keep your speed. You can jump over the cactuar gates. Spinning arms too.
@bazzyplays55 yessir with fango you can jump right over it. I used piko, belle, or fango. Piko for general speed, belle when there's lots of obstacles because the rock slide ability is wonderful, and fango for stages with air currents and gates

Maybe a stupid question, but how do you drift? Explanation says R2 + direction but when i press R2 the birds only jumps a bit and does a Full stop then. Can't win anything like that...
i'm struggling with drifting. on a rt hairpin, i push the left stick to the right (holding X to keep moving) and R2, but i rarely drift and when i do there's no control and i crash or, even worse, stop. is there a secret i don't know about? like start high and Left stick/R2 three or four steps before the turn? if i can't master drift, i'm doomed... (>.
That's kind of why I like the slower birds, at least at the start. Because then it's easier to not get trapped in the corners. I also try to copy the other racers, so when the animation for their drift starts, I do it a little earlier...by lap 3 you should have a rough idea of where to do it when you're out on front. But I can relate, it's tough!
This guy is so not being respectful of my time. I have 90 leisure minutes a day and he just robbed me of several. Somehow his intoxicated voice and soothing accent tricked me into thinking he'd be a cool guy who got it. Well Aponi and tropical, I'll give it a go.
yea if she gets a head lead, ur guaranteed golden. BUT u gotta take the head lead first. especially at the beginning where theres 9 of u clamped together and they deliberately hit u and u lose speed becoz of that, its annoying as hell. however against shinra manager its just 1vs1...i used her and he had no chance. zero, nada none, completely owned by me.
I wasn't a big fan of Selena tbh - she has like a bubble attack that stuns other racers. But I honestly prefer the control abilities a lot more. II have a walkthrough for Selena here though - it can be frustrating aye! ruclips.net/video/AJBzHWmQzsE/видео.html
Beat the entire thing with Selena Honestly, gonna give you a tip. Any time there's water, run along the very edge of the track, you wont be slowed down and every chocobo you pick benefits massively when everyone else has to waddle through the water and you can sprint full speed

Had the most sucess with Fango . Just jumping over shit and taking short cuts with the jump is insane.

Yeah you're right bro. All the stages have some area in the race where you can exploit hover and gain a big lead. well done on the find!

how come when i choose aponi i got birdshot as his special L1 ability, on the bird selection it says hoverbird but when i get into the race its not
