  • This week, I am unboxing and installing (one of two) raised garden beds, which I am going to be using for “main crops” which don’t work as well when grown in a food forest setting. Another reason for raised beds could be too, if they’re tall enough, keep pest animals like rabbits from eating your plants. Install was pretty easy and straightforward although I probably went overboard with the base material. I am going with a contemporary feel in my garden so this Corten steel ring from Epic Gardening is fitting, I think. Of course you could use wood or a lot of different materials as well.
I filled the raised bed with logs, remains from palm trees, some native topsoil and weeds in the center, and, of course a ton of organic matter. I did not use peat moss, because peat moss is not sustainable. Let me know what you grow in your garden! Thanks for Watching!

I have tried and failed many times in growing edibles. Maybe I would have had better success with a raised bed. Seems my strength is growing ornamental plants....flowering perennials, annuals, trees and shrubs. Only edibles I have are a couple blueberry bushes and a grape vine. I snack on the blueberries while working in the gardens, otherwise I leave remaining blueberries and all grapes for the birds and wild turkeys.

I love Epic Gardening. I been considering the Birdies Raised Beds for a bit. Did u use a discount code? I wonder how they will hold out against rust 🤔

Yes, they were (and Maybe still) running an “end of season” sale. They were a bit pricey at full price… IMO.
Holy smokes, the corten steel starting rusting after the first rain! I was considering a rust oleum clear coat, but the rusty look might be nice against the snow in the winter… and I think it’s a little late for a clear coat now.
