Quite possibly the best and most impactful lecture I have ever listened to. Really put some fire under me. Thank you Fr. Thomas Hopko! May his memory be eternal!

If you have trouble with Abolition of Man, read That Hideous Strength, it’s the novel version. Lewis shows you what he means via a fantasy story. It’s a dystopia similar to 1984 or Brave New World but Lewis was a Christian, he got to the root of it

Aloha from Hawai'i. Mahalo for this video, just wonderful. It must have been meant to be as I am on a CS Lewes reading journey, and came across this video. So again, Mahalo.

The Glory of the Cross poem
See him there at Calvary dressed out in full array
The penalty for sinners Gods justice on display
The slaughtered lamb now speaking, His soul is open wide
I'm smitten and forsaken, My God My God Oh Why!
A mocking crowd comes tempting, with wagging heads allied
A crown of thorns they gave him, set hard above his eye
Yet some in sore amazement, let out a desperate cry!
'Tis Jesus friend of sinners, My God My God Oh Why
Then the earth began to tremble and the sun now shut its eyes
Lest sin should reign eternal, the cursed of God must die
With troubled hearts we see him, but faithful we must be
This blessed act of mercy , t'was My God My God for me!
His sheep had all been scattered, alone and all undone
His Fathers heart now grieving, they'd soon have aid to come
His work was now accomplished, the trembling cup lay bare
Sins darkness now upon Him, as he hung in great despair
Before the day was finished, His parched lips would rehearse
The only words befitting, My God My God I Thirst
Through smitten, bruised, abandoned, faith eye would let him see
In three days he would be risen, with the keys of victory
At the dawning of the morning on the first day of the week
He left the grave behind him, now gone to tend his sheep
He spoke with his disciples, at a dinner by the sea
Three times he asked one question, Peter lovest me?
The Righteous King Eternal, t'was this man from Galilee
By faith, you can receive him and live life full and free
All nations now are groaning, while silent hearts just cry
A broken heart of sorrows, O' our God will not deny
Return thy tears of sorrow, to the One who died for thee
No! You have not been forsaken, just but look to Calvary

Im trying to understand what he meant by “there’s another group who’s role of choice is religion”. Is this not what we’re called to do?

    • @AlbertSalmani
      @AlbertSalmani Месяц назад

My dear brother I think he is saying that religious practices are means to reach God, although important and necessary but approaching God with a broken heart and keeping him in our thoughts and hearts constantly is the goal. My two cents🙏

    Concerning this;
Melchizedek, King - Priest - Messiah and the ransom for many.
The whole idea of Ransom is to find an equivalent to fit the ransom demand.
In our case the only equivalent would be a greater life and thus we find Jesus fulfilling this demand as a Priest after the order of Melchizedek and the power of an endless life.
In the act of his self-sacrifice and in accordance with his father's will. The ransom is paid (in more than full) and all the forfeited lives of sin are redeemed.
No earthly King could ever solicit such devotion, loyalty and love from his people.
That's why the Son of Man is KING of Kings.
Take time to express gratitude and thankfulness in offering a sacrifice of praise to Him who full-filleth all and all.
For he is our God and we are his ransomed / redeemed people.
O' the redeeming love of God in Christ Jesus!
    Now an:
Ode to the Great Melchizedek, King of the Most High God.
From earth, to sun, beyond the stars
We see thy spender from afar
With fainting breath, a fading eye
    We know Eternity draws nigh
    Beneath, above, beyond the sky
We see thy face, thy August Eye
    In silent chorus we refrain
While in our hearts we whisp thy name
We bow our heads in reverent dread
You sent your Son, you raise the
    dead
Turn down our hearts, adorn thy bed
Thou hast a place to rest thy head
    O' Seraphim O' Cherubim
    Thrice Holy hymn enjoin
    Eternal light, Almighty friend
In Endless love, we say Amen!
    JS 2016
    Further thoughts
Daniel saw the statue with a head of gold with its historical import.
John sees a vision of Jesus in the ascended, exalted Melchizedekian office as the King Priest with a living voice like a feast trumpet speaking pertinent things for the moments at hand.
Saul in his Throne Vision Call on the road to Damascus must have seen the glorious piercing light of this Melchizedek as he rules and reigns
And I might add, He continues to Rule and Reign for all Eternity even unto the Ages of Ages Amen!
Thanks for all the work you do.

Not sure. But it is after 2002 when he retired, he clearly says he's no longer at St. Vlads. And it is earlier than 2005, because I've found something similar written by him in 2005 (below). So, between 2002 and 2005 in a Cathedral in Texas.

      According to TheKevinBasil
The location is St Seraphim Cathedral, Dallas, TX. The date is less clear. He mentions his eminence, Abp. Dmitri (Royster), who served as bishop of the Diocese of the South of the Orthodox Church in America, and he mentions "this cathedral here in Dallas." He also mentions St Seraphim of Sarov, the cathedral's patron. The date is after his retirement (July 2002) and before his eminence's repose (August 2011).

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
      John 3:16‭-‬18
