Hey Penn, I swam in high school and taught lessons for 8 years. 1st I am genuinely impressed that you got your cap on by yourself. A lot of us always had buddy help to cap ourselves. Second, your turn and underwater dolphin kick when the Olympian is complementing you, I would have assumed you had competition experience from seeing that streamline and kick.
Ps- I started swimming my sophomore year. It wasn't until my senior year that I was able to do butterfly well (make it look good, not particularly fast).
All through my sophomore and junior years I couldn't get my arms out of the water or coordinate my arms and kick.

As a swimmer I believe that every stroke is harder in different areas. In my opinion Butterfly is the hardest for speed, backstroke is the hardest for technique, breaststroke is the hardest for timing and you can be easily dq and freestyle doesn’t seem that hard until you really have to focus on technique and then it gets hard. Congrats to Penn for trying hard! I can’t deny that a 100 butterfly is hard. I don’t do it if I can avoid it.

"Normal" people can learn to do difficult things like the butterfly, but we have to commit to learning it and working at it, not show up and try it in an afternoon. I got into competitive tae kwon do a year ago. It's not at all easy, but I'm working hard at it and doing well and getting better. I'm in my mid 40s. I salute Penn for giving it a shot though. I'll bet his first attempt was better than most. It takes guts to show your first efforts at anything.
