I stacked gold and silver for 8yrs and sold about half of it for a down payment on my first house. It's a lot easier to preserve wealth when you have something beautiful in your hand.
Good move I'd say 👌🏽
The power of compound stacking over time.
It definitely adds up, dig it 👍😎
Just imagine 10 even 20 years down the road.... That's a lot of gold
@@SovereignSaurus 🙉
This is exactly what people should be doing. Instead of buying Phones and Sneakers.

It’s a very good thing to start thinking about ways to defeat inflation and collect interest such as ETF’s or gold, but “wasting money” on a holiday is quite bold. If you can’t afford to go on a holiday then don’t. But you could die any time and experiences matter. A lot. It’s what life is. The most important thing is finding a balance between enjoying and being smart with assets.
I’ve been doing similar since 1985 I’ve got a substantial stack of 1oz Krugerrands, I’ve stored them in a similar manner to John Wick :) I’m amazed at how it all adds up, especially when there are a few rare coins in the stack.
Great video ❤
Fantastic! Steady does it!
Excellent Spreadsheeting their SS. I work in IT but still put all my purchases in a Note Book!! Before the end of the year I promised myself that they will all be held digitally as well. The only addition would be a column for which years Sovereigns where bought at the time, it might give a bit of additional info as to what years are the most expensive/desirable. Sad I know, but we love our Sovs!!! 😊
Haha I prefer pen and paper too although spreadsheets do have their uses. I've got a video lined up for how I record my purchases as I've been asked about that too 👍🏼
I watched this yesterday and today really got me thinking. I have a reasonable amount of gold I just wear and a few sovereigns for investment but it's true about how you waste money in life and that chart made me realise I can actually buy a certain amount a month. Pay myself first and save more. Your information is great. Best wishes dink
I don't think I'd have specifically saved up the equivalent amount in cash in the bank. Certainly wouldn't have been as enjoyable
This month I began stacking gold sovereigns. I'm going to join you on accumulating 1-2 per month for the next five years :)
Awesome 👌🏽 Let's do it
Started stacking Sovereigns because of you. My favorite coin by far due to dates, variety and value. 12 full sovereigns and 11 half sovereigns since I started this past January.
Cheers 🥃
That's awesome 🍻 Brilliant stack starting to grow there
The 20 Swiss Franc is also a beautiful coin. I bought some when my bullion dealer was out of Sovereigns and I'm very glad I did. A little less gold content but nice looking coins nonetheless.
@@kiltedsasquatch3693 have a bunch of LMUs in my stack, attractive fractional.
Cheers 🥃
Why not Britannias?
Great Advice!
You can't beat the power of consistency over time to average costs and a good old excel spreadsheet to keep you in check 😃
The key is to stay within your means. So, for some they might be best suited to buy a Half Sovereign, every month for others it might be a One Ounce Gold Coin.
Set a budget that won't over stretch yourself. And always keep an emergency fund to hand as you never want to get in a position of having to sell early.
Yes exactly. Whether you're buying a kilo a month or a half sov a month it was more to demonstrate the priciple whatever the coin or bar of choice 👍🏼
By no means do I earn a high salary. But, after stacking gold and silver constantly for three years and making several sacrifices; amazed how quickly it all adds up by DCA.
Fantastic job. It does soon add up, keep it going mate
What does DCA mean?

Excellent plan to get rich slowly. It works very well. I love sovereigns, even though I live in the US.
It's not how much you make but how much you keep 🍻 They seem to be a popular coin around the world but equally people with other preferences can take the principles for their coin of choice too
I'm more of a collector. But I now see it from a different angle. Great video. 👍
Thanks for dropping by. It seems there is a collector in me too 😁
@@SovereignSaurus thanks for the reply :)
I was chatting to a stall holder at a weekly market in a small Northern town.
He told me that a local builder had bought a gold Krugerrand ( yes a full one) every week he had been there for over ten years.
I won't speculate as to why the builder did this, but I saw no reason for the market trader not to be telling the truth.
It soon mounts up like that yes. Holding on to that hard earned 😎
very few people can do this. but a good idea if you can.
It's possible, possible to far exceed and also possible to scale it down
Yah when you roll it to property it will give you 1 soverign a month profit, then you keep repeating, slow process but eventually it starts getting big.
Surprising how quick they accumulate
"what do you think. The idea of you buying only one sovereign per month, is hilarious to me
😂😂😂 Good one
Interesting video. And indeed 1x Sov per month is pretty affordable (at least in the 1st world).
Yes I think for a lot of viewers. Half sovs are another good option but equally low premium quarter Oz or LMU francs could work well too
Spread sheets, never goes well for me and i just give up. I just keep a book with ruled columns and a calculator .😊 A great video and thanks for the eye candy.
Pen and paper for me too usually 😁
It would certainly be nice to see those near-mint and mint sovereigns protected inside 2x2 cardboard/plastic cases in the least. On PCGS, there is still a premium value for MS60+ sovereigns versus the circulated (lower-condition) coins. There are also KEY DATES and KEY MINTAGES on several sovereigns, and so it would be smart to at least provide the minimum protection of the surface of the coin from scratches and environmental damage, certainly having those coins on a table and spilling coffee onto them, or accidentally dropping them onto the ground. Good video.
Thanks for watching. Doing the date run helped me learn more about some of the less common dates. Starting to learn more about the grades and more numismatic side of things 👍🏼
August 2024 and pre owned Sovereign are now £467 each, so over twice they were back in 2018.
Excellent bit of chart work, my costs would be a nightmare to work out, ive been in and out of everything except palladium (i didnt venture down that path).
Im settled now, i have the nice pieces and as I've almost given up on filling my sovereign date gaps I'm looking to add half sovereigns now.
Ive simplified my costings, i know what I started with in 2016 and i know what the current prices of what i have would cost me now.
My 3 fold increase included frequent additional purchases and all the time i can acquire a bit more, i know my ' journeys' is not over.
Great work. Buying over more years will certainly help
Great video. I try to buy a half sov each month or if moneys a bit tight i like the 10th oz krugs, beautiful coins
Great way to build up a stack 👍🏼
The good thing about having sovereigns is they are easy to sell and to store for the long haul. They are an easy way to hide wealth from the powers that be 😊
Many advantages yes
Do I need to tell HMRC if I buy gold?
I'm tryna hide my money from them lol
A sov per month is a lot of money.. very nice :)
I'll try to buy at least one sov or one vreneli per year.
They'll still mount up over time 👌🏽
Сейчас такая ситуация в мире, что скоро только на золото можно и будет купить хлеб! Покупайте не прогадаете!
I personally use a modified DCA where i buy slightly more some months and none other times as some months have been consistently cheaper (end of june /july ) and some months have been consistently dearer every year .
Good plan. If there was a sizeable drop in spot or just some really good deals I'd buy a bit more at times too. Equally if price spikes up suddenly I usually give it some time to settle
Thank you for sharing. I do believe The Sovereign might just be the best coin for investment. It's still affordable and in 5 years can have some great returns. If I could only get somebody to point me to the cheapest source...🤔. Nice vid, see you later buddy.
They're a great option especially in the UK. There isn't one place that is always cheapest it depends on stock levels and dealer premiums which frequently change
I have been stacking silver for a few months and want to start buying gold but I don't want to pay the high premiums of fractional gold, what Sovereign should I buy
I'd go for a 'best value' one from a dealer just avoid ones that are damaged or ex-mounted.
What premiums do you pay for your silver?
Nice video and a great strategy for both new and experienced buyers.
The principles are the same if you prefer your 1 oz coins or even kilo bars I guess too 😁
@@SovereignSaurus I personally find that buying a sovereign a month gives me enough funds to buy more commemorative gold throughout the year. Did you manage to get your hands on a SOTD?
I find it amusing when the gold buyers constantly spamming us to sell all our scrap gold as the price is the highest it has ever been. What they don't tell you, is that gold is about the same price as it was ten years ago. And in relation to the global economy, it's about as cheap as it has ever been. Instead of a company work based pension, I've been purchasing gold Sovereigns and Britannia's every month since the 90's..... Cost of living crisis my ass...hehe!!!
Fantastic I bet that's a stunning stack. I'm sure it'll take care of you in the future

i put 1k a month into my 4.1% chase accound if i bought gold sovereigns instead 1k per month which would be better over say 10 years?
It depends what the gold price does so a little unpredictable but I could figure out some averages and see where we end up.
Sadly buying a replacement vehicle is always a probability, as i definitely dont want a monthly payment to contend with.
Check the maths but maybe better clearing debts or using some savings before buying additional gold 🤔
@@SovereignSaurus I'm ahead on volume and value, with some cash on the side.
what about buying britannia 1/10oz gold coin instead as there 200 gbp and 24kt gold ?
Personally I wouldn't as it's a larger premium Vs the sovereign. In that price range I'd rather buy a half sov or every other month buy a full sov unless the tenth Oz came up relatively cheap
Great spread sheet.. thank you for the great idea ..👍🪙
Glad it was helpful!
How are your prices so low? Buying a single soverign the last few months is 400+ really useful video though!
Great question... I rarely buy individual coins. A slight flaw in the data though good point. I did try to use the same date in each month though for my prices whether that was the highest or lowest price in the month. You could probably use highest or lowest spot prices of each month to 'doctor' the data but I felt to illustrate the point it was accurate enough 👍🏼

I’m definitely planning on buying more sovereigns for my collection from now on - my last job didn’t pay enough, but my current one gives me more than enough to make buying a few halves, or even one or two sovereigns a month feasible - they’re my favourite gold coin along with the double eagle, and being in the UK means I can stack them without CGT :)

A half sovereign would perhaps be best or bi monthly sov. Currently Bullion By Post have a sale on 2022 Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Half Sovereign at £197 which is £5 cheaper than HGM best value half sov and £10 cheaper than Atkinsons best value half sov. @@SovereignSaurus thank you for such a speedy response appreciate the advice, I’m hoping to stack coins and bars safer than the bank, your videos have been a great help!! Currently on my way through one of your playlists.
I’m confused. The lowest price for half sovereigns are £230 each and the max price I could get for each is £210. How am I supposed to get that 3% premium!
You may get some of the premium on 2nd hand market by undercutting the dealer price, otherwise you're waiting for the gold price to rise
Sovereigns are my favorite gold coins because of excellent stacking efficiency, liquidity with and the nice added value of holding a small piece of numismatic history from a century or decades ago, at no extra premium. Lately, Britannia quarter ounces are stealing my heart lately. This is because the latent image security feature of the Britannia makes is more secure against counterfeiting, and makes its authenticity unquestionable without needing tools or expensive verification machines, which I believe is very important in a SHTF scenarios, bartering, or routine sales among random people.
Any fellow stacker wants to share thoughts on this?
Yeah I think people are stacking for different reasons. On one hand the sovereign is more widely recognised around the world than a Britannia, and I think if you asked people on the street have they heard of a gold sovereign most people would (despite probably not knowing what it's worth) The Britannia is known among modern collectors but have 'only' been around just over 30 years, pros and cons though like you say the Britannia is a great coin
(part 2) Also scrap gold with a hallmark could be an option as many ordinary people already understand this better than coins I'd say 🤔
@@SovereignSaurus Thanks for the insight, recognizability has a value of its own. Somebody point out that the weak point of the Britannia was its changing design and that the security feature is quite recent.
Describe to kind I have so how much this coin Sail this kind this coin how much
I didn't fully understand your question. You want to sell one of these coins?
What was the price you paid for first and what’s the price for the most recent you had? Keep going👍
Hello
£230s were the first (approx March 2018) latest £382 Young Victorias last week
Wouldn't a 1/4 Britannia be better ?
Some people prefer them. Generally with most dealers Brits are a higher premium to buy but the dealers don't give you a higher premium on the way out Vs a sov.
@@SovereignSaurus Guess so, depends how long long you intend to keep them I guess. As in, in 20 years time, any coins I sell will be worth way way more than what I paid in 2023. That goes for all coins, bars.
I've had a question for a while now: Do you advise me to buy this type of gold coins to save and invest in the future? Is this feasible? How much is one gold coin worth? Please wait for the answer
It's certainly feasible it depends what your plans are financially whether it's right for you or not 👍🏼
My dear brother, I worked hard and difficult for two years with neglect and collected the sum of $13,000. I want to buy 22-karat English gold coins with it, and save them for a while so that I can make a profit from them. I hope my opinion is correct
How do you even sell thise though to get your money back out? From what I've seen on other videos you struggle even to get the spot price , it confuses me so much
You can sell to the online and many offline dealers for about spot price. The other way is peer to peer to other stackers or collectors. There is an element of assumption that the price will rise over the long term if history is anything to go by. People do stack for a variety of reasons though I've come to learn
@@SovereignSaurus I'm concerned with the premiums on the sovereigns though, it's like 10% now, there's really a chance you could make that back if you had to sell? Especially if the price of gold doesn't go up I'd be very worried that I'd thrown money away on every coin. I almost purchased the 1oz 2024 Britannia coin today but bottled it 😂
