THANK GOD YOU MENTIONED THE JOHN LEGEND PART!!! I’m an active neopets player i’ve lived through all of this and finding out about John Legend being a brand ambassador is the one that got me the most gadzooked sdfgh Great video!! 💗

As a Webkinz fan I feel so genuinely sorry for Neopets players I hope the new site owners fixs most of the problems with the current site, love the video, remember to take care of yourself!!! :DDD

honestly i feel like webkinz is rlly close to its death :( its new version barely got any attention and i see very few people playing classic. i kinda hope it dies bc then it can get private servers with everyone having membership but it would be the end of an era for me
@@iwakeupandboomimarat yeah no that's not really how webkinz works. private servers only work on websites that actually HAVE servers. if webkinz dies it's dead. don't wish that 😭

13:25 It should be noted that whaling isn’t just an occurrence in mobile games, but in MMORPGS as well. A lot of those games with a “battle pass” or “cash shop” feature are bound to have many willing to spend a ton just to earn an advantage.
Yeah one of the main child friendly MMO’s I can think of is Wizard 101 which also has the online blind box for some game changing gear. Webkinz to a lesser extent has it with the seasonal mystery boxes but you’re not really obligated to buy them. The Webkinz mystery boxes are purely cosmetic.
As a self proclaimed Neo addict, the fact that I have learned a couple of things from this video has me very impressed by the amount of research and thought that went into this!
The state of the site right now is, at least, LEAGUES better right now than it was in around 2020. Interactive pages, updated layouts, its a lot better, even if it isn’t perfect. It was REALLY bad.
Gen Alpha truly doesn’t care about Neopets. I have an almost 6 year old daughter who loves Animal Crossing, Minecraft, Stardew Valley, etc. I tried to show her Neopets. She looked at me funny after a few minutes. “Do you have to play this, mom? It doesn’t look like a game.”
As a gen z kid, I was profoundly disappointed to find a static pet sim after finding and purchasing a Neopets magazine and reading about this beautiful world full of adventure. As an adult I can understand why people may find pet sims fun, but as a kid I felt scammed
@@DrawciaGleam02They likely thought it was more like a video game where you could move your character around the world. Not everyone is into text-based stuff and mini games. 😅
Personally as an ex-Neopets player I've turned to various alternate sites instead for my virtual pet experience. I've been playing one, Subeta, for a couple years and tbh even though it's not perfect I'd probably steer anyone who wants a neopets experience to go there instead. For one, they actually allow LGBT topics on the forums and user profiles--encourage it even, it was founded when the creator was (iirc) banned or suspended on Neopets for talking about being gay in 2004. The avatar system is really fun and the pet pages are really fun to work on. Events still happen fairly often and they're working on updating the site to a new format too, Neopets simply won't hold my attention anymore except for nostalgia. I hope they make some changes but tbh I'll probably just stay there. Still love to listen about Neopets though! lovely video as always :D
@@ShadeATVthat’s nice to hear! i personally don’t think after the NFT mess either i could be encouraged to go back, it’s just really not the kind of game i can convince myself enjoy anymore :( still glad to hear they’re making some positive changes though ofc
These deep dives into sites i used to play casually tell me how much time people used to put into them. I kept switching between different online worlds and sites as a kid
Neopets is like that hollywood star that is deeply loved and idolized but with time people started realizing they weren't that great. For me, Neopets is a childhood memory I cherish so much, so I haven't gone back to the website, because I'm scared of breaking that perfect memory😭 the delusion protects me
I feel that since this video, the site has genuinely improving if not slowly. With the quest system handing out NP and random rare items for completing them, the inflation problem has been gradually dissipating. The Faerie Festival also helped some with that as well, and there's still generous parts of the community I've come to know. There's still broken aspects, but there's plenty to do and partake in since there's still lots of development being put into the site that's starting to show.
I wish I knew about the pound glitch when I was a kid. I remember another friend who was obsessed with Neopets told me to keep refreshing the adoption page because some people would put painted Neopets in the pound. Even as a kid, I thought that was crazy… cuz even back then, paintbrushes were ridiculously hard to get. Anyway, I ended up adopting a silver Kougra by pure luck. Nobody ever messaged me about her… but if it was the glitch, I would have gladly gave her back to the original owner, if possible.
that was probably a legitimate pounded pet, unless you’re a young teen i don’t think the pound glitch would have been around when you were a kid and it’s not that uncommon for people to pound lab ray pets with rare colors that aren’t the specific color they were looking for
Oh I was playing Neopets back in 2002. 😅 I’m 30 now haha but you’re right the silver kougra was probably a legitimately pounded pet… but UGH, she was everything to me! 🤩 I miss her but I know my old account is long gone.
I need you to know that I nostalgia joined again because of your video and within the first 24 hours of play, I got a fountain fairy quest and now have a ninja Buzz. So thank you!
They're also coming out with an official neopets cook book soon. No idea why. They also reached out to me, a makeup youtube channel, to send it to in pr for some reason.
Losing my old, well-loved account makes it so hard to start all over again. Spotted Cybunny, Grey Kougra, Darigan Eyrie, and the obligatory Lab Ray pet. I remember being part of so many epic plot quests. I used to really enjoy collecting as many message board avatars as possible (RIP my 'squished spyder' icon). But maybe I'll give it a try.
I can't get into my account due to the birthday thing, since when I was little I would put very random bdays. Sometimes I look at the user page like its tombstone. I even messaged, but since the email address related to the account was one of my dad's, and he had tons because he was a tinfoil hat sort of man, no dice. I don't have the heart to start new.
I dropped Neo for a while as a boycott when they announced the metaverse shit, picked it up again recently after the change of management and been binging it. It's still pretty much same ol same ol, but they are rolling out improvements/changes pretty quickly, at least quicker than they ever have before. Like this week they just released a much-needed settings revamp, and it seems that they are being very responsive to user input. I really think Neo is on the up :)
Something I feel like you really should have mentioned during the crypto segment is that, aside from being horrendously ugly, there is strong evidence to suggest that the images for the neopets NFTs were outsourced from the neopets fansite Dress to Impress, as several of the character tokens had visual bugs consistent with the site. DTI, in response, revoked neopets’ authorization to use the site.
There's nothing wrong with crypto. However, NFTs are too niche. They sort of need to go to web3 and add a crypto faucet to Neopets. With a crypto faucet one can paid for playing Neopets or convert the earned crypto to NeoCash.
i’ve really been enjoying grundo’s cafe as a neopets alternative! it’s basically a recreation of early 2000’s neopets, including uc pet sprites. they’ve also added so much new art and QOL features, i find it so much more enjoyable than the original site.
IMO the best way to make neopoints is to train your pet up to fight some of the low level enemies in the battledome, some of them give a few codestones every day and that's where I've made the bulk of my millions in the absence of the flash games. dubloons aren't terribly expensive especially with the Trudy slot machine daily so with a month or two of pirate training and some cheap items like the Magical Healing Potion, Scroll of Ultranova, and Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer, you'll be making some decent money every day with like a half hour or less of daily effort. Though I still agree they need to make some adjustments to the economy and fight botting, that's just what I personally have been doing in the meantime :0c
I agree. while it isnt easy to get rich quick as a new player, its definitely possible. I came back to the game in 2020 and started trying to make money for the first time. As a kid I had never tried saving money or participating in the economy or anything, so i had probably less than 10k neopoints saved up in total, and almost nothing of value in storage. Now Im at nearly 5mil in neopoints and about 30mil worth of items in storage, and I don't even play that regularly. I'll go through spurts where I play it more often, but ive also frequently go weeks or months without logging on. I know a few million isnt a crazy amount by Neopets standards but is more than i ever expected to be able to earn on the site. I would absolutely agree that the battledome is likely the most consistent way to start racking up neopoints, as well as trudys and other dailies. I found a starter battle pet on the Lost and Pound, bought up some of the best cheap battledome items (like Scroll of Ultranova) and worked my way up slowly. The other way Ive found you can make a lot of neopoints fast as a new player is to get the most out of site events/holidays. Things like the Festival of Neggs is pretty easy to complete, and usually gives away at least an exclusive book and stamp, each of which shoot up in price quite quickly. Usually you'll get at least 1-2 items during a site event that you can sell for over 100k neopoints. And the exclusive wearables are usually nice for new players to have as well
Something you forgot to mention is how the pirate smuggler and abandoned attic shops have been broken for actual years its pretty frustrating because you could get some good deals on rare items in those shops previously
Ah. My youth. I went to a Neopets daily page & did alllll the fun freebies every day. Those scratchers definitely prepared me for working at a gas station in high school where I bought crossword scratchers. THE RUSH
Neopets is one thing I am weirdly defensive of, so its always tricky to watch videos like this. I feel like every time you point out something absurd about the current state of the site, my kneejerk is to be like "ah but I could explain how things ended up this way/why this is how things are'. Not saying the explanation changes things entirely, but sometimes helps to contextualize how things ended up this messy. There is still such a surprisingly vibrant and dedicated community on such an old site, and as bad as it is, I'm so thankful it is still around. Every other online kids site that I grew up with shut down long ago, but despite all odds neopets has continued to limp on. I feel bad that this video had to come out alongside the recent developments of new management, bc this is the first time in years that ive been optimistic about the future of the site. Some of the messiness, particularly with the minigames, is actually a welcome refresher because it comes alongside a wave of effort to restore some of the most nostalgic features of the site. A site this old is just absolutely massive, but I appreciate that they've left up so much of the old content even if some of it isnt worth the effort of converting. Other sites may have purged much more to make a site conversion cleaner and easier, but at least with Neopets' the mess stems partially from the site being a like an archive of its very long history
fascinating stuff. i grew up with the MMO's of the late-2000's to early 2010's (Fantage, Wizard 101, FusionFall, etc.) and i love learning about older ones.
this video spoke to my heart.... all this time trying to tell my friends Every Single Point you brought up... but alas... they were never neopetters... . they would never understand this video is so TRUE!!!!!! i can finally be put to rest knowing this information is immortalized on the internet this video is awesome thank u
From what I understand the reason they got john legend on is because chrissy teigen has been on neopets forever and was a comment board moderator at a point. And as far as people that would be brand ambassadors i think June @/actuallyrea would have been a great choice! :]]
The little "I hope you live forever in poverty" song has been stuck in my head all day. I am very mad and I hope you live forever in poverty for doing this to me. /j
I have a TEENY bit of hope in the new indie company development as a very long time fan with my 20+ year old account. I acknowledge that it's current state ain't the same but there is room here and there. Felt a bit nice too to play/visit its features on that said-updated website format. (Yes I can't play Neopets on my laptop forever now.) The classic games update with Ruffle is a amazing development but I play Usul Suspects and I can't restart the game after I claim my Neopoints... I have to hard refresh the website and it takes a bit to reload the game. (I also run in a potato laptop....) I'm too forgiving of a Neopian right now and I can't really play a lot these days. And the pet trade market is also stressful. Happy with my badly named pets from kind people on the Neoboards pound page...
"Happy with my badly named pets from kind people on the Neoboards pound page..." Same, if you have a rare painted pet with a bad name you don't have to worry about people stealing your pet....
@@DrawciaGleam02The amount of vultures that DM’d my account after sitting inactive for years was insane. The name of one of my adopted pets was a character from a game (slightly misspelled) and it was really strange to have people offering me all kinds of UCs and neopoints for a pet with…just a name. They were always really pushy and weird about “how important this was to them” and I’m like?? Ok?? Sorry no?? 😂 Knowing now how much money’s in it, makes me even happier to not sell out to these folks that make the site crappy in the long run.
Omg the Habitarium was my FAVORITE thing to do on Neopets! I was never a very active Neopets player (maybe because I didn't get into it in its heyday) so when I returned one day to find it gone I was DEVASTATED. Especially since the inflation and dead Flash games issue was already making the game kind of boring to try to get into as a newer player
I had completely forgotten about it until it was brought up here, and I've never had a stronger nostalgia response. I hope the game is still up somewhere!
As a Gen-Z kid who couldn't quite get into Neopets, I'm pretty interested in the new projects that this team is working on, tbh. I feel like a lot of us were too used to the physically explorable virtual worlds/pet-sims like Webkinz to really get into the text-based Neopets design, so I'd definitely be down to explore Neopia in 3D.
I feel like neopets could absolutely make a comeback. I went to a convention recently and a ton of the artists there were selling neopets patches, pins, art, keychains, etc. I bought as much as I could but a lot of them sold out of their items! I dont think virtual petsites are going to do gangbusters compared to other ventures, but they can absolutely build a loyal and dedicated fanbase, like Flight Rising.
sorry for commenting pre-emptively but like i love the look. your makeup is always so phenomenal but like,, the black and white switcheroo kinda theme????? gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!
I poked at Neopets a couple months ago for the nostalgia when I heard of the new ownership and ran into every problem you mentioned within minutes of trying to remember how the site works. If this new design is supposed to be easier, it's not nearly easy enough - it needs to turn the common locstions like the plaza/bazaar into a drop-down in the menu, for one. The entire site is in the uncanny valley of usability where it obfuscates how to access things while not really providing anything useful and making it harder to find the old usable site. I can't imagine a new player who decides to check out this thing they heard about being able to figure this thing out at all. But OH BOY do they make it obvious to access the cash shop. Having a cash shop at all with the site in this state is downright insulting.
I've been playing neopets since i was 10, I'm 26 now and still have my neopets and log them into a hotel once a month for the whole month so they dont starve. When they lost the server for the key quest game it all went downhill, its so sad
I have no idea about most of the things you talk about (I'm gen z from post-soviet country) but I'm in live with your videos. You're an incredible narrator!
i used to play neopets as a kid and impossible for newcomers is accurate. i loved the designs, games, and lore but it was hard to make money and i also didn't like how interacting with your pets mostly came from a dropdown button. it felt mechanical for lack of a better word. my neopets days ended when we had to repair the computer and i couldn't access my account after that. it does have a lot of nostalgic memory for me but it also made me wonder why i stuck with it for so long
As a (former?) neopets fan I love that you did such a comprehensive video, I can tell how much you care about and love the old neopets that we all loved to play so much as kids. It’s so sad to see how far it’s fallen. Also- your makeup looks super cool! I love how you matched the logo colors :D
The fact that almost 10 years have already passed without being able to play Key Quest is making me so SAD. It was my favorite thing ever and my main source of NP. I remember the music of the game so clearly! What a time that was. Excellent video Li!
7:54 looking back on my childhood I’m actually incredibly grateful for how fleshed out a lot of the world was. I had neopets magazine, I printed out user created stories from the site to read offline, each new part of the world came with a whole history. Like kids deserve complete and evolving worlds and stories. It’s one of the reasons we all loved ATLA as kids and why our kids love it-it’s a complete and evolving world that’s obviously been lived in and has history.
This is irrelevant to the content of the video itself, but I LOVE your makeup! (As you can tell by my icon, I am... A *little* biased, to say the least, LOL)
Grundos Cafe is wonderful. Its everything old neopets vets want, the only issue is limited access ( you need to be invited in). Let retail die, its beyone saving.
Never played Neopets, so I was just watching happily until the dokidoki lit club music started up and I was convinced I was about to be jumpscared with Neopet nfts. Also, Li, every time you use the Town with No Name soundtrack, it delights me to no end.
Li, I started with your ASMR channel and I’m so thrilled to see you taking off with the nostalgia content! I can’t believe I learned things from this video (like the Adam incident, good lord) - neopets is one of the few innocent childhood memories I have that I love so fiercely, and your unbiased coverage on the drama is much appreciated. I really hope to see the site revived (wholesomely) the way it deserves to be for its clearly adult userbase.
I was lucky enough to get my Neopets account back for closure's sake after losing it due to password negligence and a dead email address that made it harder to just reset the password years before Neopets went under. I mourn the loss of Jonas Brothers' "When You Look Me in the Eyes" on my profile page. I still have the animated Sonic sprites though. X3
Neopets was where I learned how to do HTML when I was a kid in 2004 and web design in general. Now I'm a software engineer. Neopets was a huge part of my childhood and I had so much fun making friends and making signatures, pet pages, and themes. I'm pretty sure both my accounts are hacked and dead though...
I really miss the Key Quest game…it was one of the separate, big games you could play and I loved the monopoly style of the game. Haven’t finished the video yet, might there be a shimmer of hope to play it again? That would be awesome!
as someone who did not play neopets but is also facing the same suffering at the hands of an incompetent team behind a children's game with a majority veteran player audience and hardly any actual kids, i feel so seen
19:30 "quick fix since 2014" gave me flashbacks to fb game Neosaurs which has been in a weekly town maintenance since 2014. the maintenance was supposed to last 3 hours
I really enjoy neopets deepdive, there's so much history and I never get tired of hearing about it- especially if its from someone who was there from the glory days. Loving the make up by the way!
So you're telling me that the website is largely broken because the people who run it understand HTML less than the kids who used it to build interactive bazaar shops in the early 2000's
I loved this site! My BFF and I had a sleepover specifically so we could both get the Hanah and the Pirate Caves avatar. I played the game for both of us and she looked up tips and guides online and helped me navigate. We learned little baby bits of HTML so we could personalize our pages. My mom was like some kind of jelly and bottled sand mogul. She was constantly searching for cheap sand and refilling her shop. Those were the days 🥰
While I'm from the side of "former Jumpstart player", and I vaguely recall the Nick-derived Neopets MMO Pet Pet Park(which was functionally an LPSO clone), I still feel bad for any dealt the poor hands of Netdragon. As most of its MMOs were neglected, the fact Neopets continued to spiral into a hacker and NFT hub sounds surreal- like it's a gap between "no treatment" (beyond an unneeded avatar overhaul in JS) and "enabled poor treatment" (what I'm deducing from Neopets). Edit: The new homepage looks like what Jumpstart's homepage before shutdown looked like, down to the late renaming of "World of BrandName".
It really is crazy to see JumpStart (or Knowledge Adventure, KA, as a lot of us older folks also know them as) have such a massive fall from grace. In their heydey of the DOS, Windows 3/9x days, they were very dedicated and technological wizards (especially on the DOS, holy cow). One can see it in the included documentation for a lot of the classic JumpStart games, and the various Adventure titles preceding Kindergarten 1994 (e.g. 3D Dinosaur Adventure and its anniversary edition). I'm guessing the people who made the magic happen ultimately left some time after the JS World MMO released. I'm only speculating, to be clear. The tech landscape changed so much, multiple times just going from 90's DOS to MMOs, with smartphones nipping right at the heels in the early 2010's, with World releasing in 2009. I just wonder what happened behind the scenes. I don't think anybody knows. I never even knew JS owned Neopets until maybe 6 months ago, when I was looking for information about JS after going on a nostalgia trip with various old edutainment games. 🤷♀️ And as for Neopets, I played during the Viacom/Nick/Paramount era, primarily for the flash games.
@@NightimeDemon Thing is, I believe it's not the MMO itself (or just that)- but the slow decline in updates once the Madagascar takeover was over (after 2 years), random redesign of the avatars in 2015 or 16, only getting a true MMO name around ~2014, and most severely, Netdragon's grasp of it from 2017-18 to its end this year. I'm actually surprised that they didn't make an App form of the MMO like Club Penguin briefly did, although their Madagascar spinoff was locked to specific Apple devices. Academy, which was the Netdragon-run overhaul that only had a Preschool, Kindergarten, and basic math/coding variant, seems to be what hurt it in the longrun. You can almost document the decline with the Wordpress blogs (ending mid-2016), the Facebook page (ending around April of 2021), and even the videos uploaded on here barely feeling as "integrated" with what is released.
This video just sparked my memory about something I completely forgot. I never played neopets, but i did play "petpet park" and "my littlest pet shop online." After doing a quick google search i think petpetpark was a nickelodeon rip-off of neopets. Did you know nickelodeon also had a virtual world? To play My Littlest Pet Shop Online you had to buy a stuffed animal littlest pet and it had a code. I distinctly remember another player telling me they were Selena Gomez. I was arguing with my dad that the other player WAS Selena Gomez and they were ABSOLUTELY NOT lying.
Now time to get to the sadder downfall of Webkinz as someone who still owns my first account with all my old pets and am sad how the game became like Animal Jam with a dumb membership currency and putting old games behind membership locks when they were free for EVERYONE to play!
As far as stuck pets, I suggest checking the trading pet boards. Usually L&P boards are common and people like myself will post and find newer/recent stuck pets, including painted colors and rare species. I follow the excel method for hunting, so I usually save a list of all my pets found and check them. It's how I found my perfect find Frollo who is a (i/l) swap so FroIIo. He's been disneyfied. XD
I remember getting banned because I had "petit" in the name of my pet. Petit is french for little but they claimed the name was sexual in nature since it had somethinh to do with tits. A large part of the french speaking community got banned on that day.
oh, neopets…. how i miss thee. i was actually super active on the forums as a youth! they had one for roleplaying that i used to spend hours upon hours on. people would convert their pet pages to profiles for commonly used roleplaying character, with pictures and backstories and everything. my very first OCs!!! and the place where i first learned what html even was. i wonder if you even have those capabilities anymore? oh the nostalgia runs deep
Habitarium is being restored (slowly) by one of the programmers volunteering at Grundo's Café! It would be so so SO easy for Neopets to bring in one of those programmers to help them out with game files but nooooooo
I actually really enjoyed this video. There's a lot of legitimate concerns on here, but I also don't think you were nitpicking at all. One more thing I wanna bring up that I don't think you did was when the map redeeming went down for months. That suuuucked, I had JUST gotten the last lab map piece and found out they were down. I think that was for them to do some tweaking to prevent bots? I'm not sure how well it did. I still enjoy playing the site. I've familiarized myself with rare items in the plushie shop, Usuki shop, and other various shops on the site so when I'm playing late at night I'm usually able to snag something rare. I've built up a sizable Usuki gallery just hanging around at night and refreshing the shop. I still think the game is fun! edit: Also, I was able to save up for a Cybunny morphing potion and finally get my dream pet, and then the Faerie event they had earlier this year made it so we could all save up from the every day tasks to get faerie paint brushes! So I have my ultimate dreamy, a Faerie Cybunny. There's ways to still get rare or expensive items!
I believe Chrissy Teigen plays Neopets more than I do that John knows what a Neopet is But I can't imagine that John costs more than say a Ninja, some streamer that if you told me they played Neopets I'd be like "Yeah I see it in their eyes"
That site's history was unhinged, to say the least. One thing I really love that you do is source the background music you use. Some RUclipsrs are really stingy, and I don't know their deal is.
The website set up isn't for kid friendliness. Its design is set up for a mobile/app version. Many of the inane design choices (like the menu run you have to do to see your pets) is classic mobile MO.

Oh dear, did you show her a video about how pet sites work?
As a gen z kid, I was profoundly disappointed to find a static pet sim after finding and purchasing a Neopets magazine and reading about this beautiful world full of adventure. As an adult I can understand why people may find pet sims fun, but as a kid I felt scammed
@@TobiasFangorIsntCis
Wait, why did your kid self feel scammed???
@@DrawciaGleam02They likely thought it was more like a video game where you could move your character around the world. Not everyone is into text-based stuff and mini games. 😅
im gen z and it just kinda confuses me
sites that are mostly text don't make that much sense to me, and i never know what to do
Personally as an ex-Neopets player I've turned to various alternate sites instead for my virtual pet experience.
Is Subeta still a thing??? That's amazing - I remember briefly migrating to it around 2005 as a fellow gay teen
I still use Neopets and they now allow LGBT topics
@@writwyrd6740it is! it’s managed to last pretty long in comparison to some of its contemporaries lol
@@ShadeATVthat’s nice to hear! i personally don’t think after the NFT mess either i could be encouraged to go back, it’s just really not the kind of game i can convince myself enjoy anymore :( still glad to hear they’re making some positive changes though ofc
Hey, I'm a Subeta player too!
These deep dives into sites i used to play casually tell me how much time people used to put into them. I kept switching between different online worlds and sites as a kid
Me too. I liked several but never fully committed
@@simplesimply3753same experience. I only really committed to pixiehollow online as a kid with the paid membership.
Neopets is like that hollywood star that is deeply loved and idolized but with time people started realizing they weren't that great. For me, Neopets is a childhood memory I cherish so much, so I haven't gone back to the website, because I'm scared of breaking that perfect memory😭 the delusion protects me
The Adam incident shocked me because for YEARS the neo fanbase had him on a pedestal!
Yep, but it turns out the dude is saltier than the Pacific Ocean.
i was truly unprepared for how insane that segment of the video was
He and Donna haven't had a W since 2004 and it shows.
I'm just 14 seconds into the video but LIIIIII, YOURE SLAYING THAT LOOK !! I LOVE THE ASYMMETRICAL EYELINER
They also reached out to me, a makeup youtube channel, to send it to in pr for some reason.
oh boy, can't wait to get my hands on some real life... *checks notes* half eaten..dung jelly..?
cookbook came out last month
@@molls127 then I'm even more confused why they reached out to me now lol
Losing my old, well-loved account makes it so hard to start all over again. Spotted Cybunny, Grey Kougra, Darigan Eyrie, and the obligatory Lab Ray pet. I remember being part of so many epic plot quests. I used to really enjoy collecting as many message board avatars as possible (RIP my 'squished spyder' icon). But maybe I'll give it a try.
me with deviantart user icons in like 2015 💀
I also lost a spotted cybunny when my account got hacked back in the day 😢
I can't get into my account due to the birthday thing, since when I was little I would put very random bdays.
How do you get a referral code or sign up ? It says it’s in closed beta. Would love to check it out !
Ooh, how can we play?
Seconding Grundo's Cafe if you can get an invite code- it really scratches that nostlagic itch
Would love to try it out!
sounds fun but u need a referral code :(
IMO the best way to make neopoints is to train your pet up to fight some of the low level enemies in the battledome, some of them give a few codestones every day and that's where I've made the bulk of my millions in the absence of the flash games. dubloons aren't terribly expensive especially with the Trudy slot machine daily so with a month or two of pirate training and some cheap items like the Magical Healing Potion, Scroll of Ultranova, and Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer, you'll be making some decent money every day with like a half hour or less of daily effort.
And the exclusive wearables are usually nice for new players to have as well
No, the best way to get rich is the Food Club. I can't even imagine how slow wealth accumulation would be in the Battledome...
Something you forgot to mention is how the pirate smuggler and abandoned attic shops have been broken for actual years its pretty frustrating because you could get some good deals on rare items in those shops previously
Gods I miss Keyquest. And petpet park. I was so obsessed as a child
Ah. My youth. I went to a Neopets daily page & did alllll the fun freebies every day. Those scratchers definitely prepared me for working at a gas station in high school where I bought crossword scratchers. THE RUSH
oh what i would give to see you cover gaia online
i really want to do one about their lore but there’s just…. so much
Neopets is one thing I am weirdly defensive of, so its always tricky to watch videos like this.
Almost completely off topic but I used to log into 2 accounts and bully myself on Fantage for attention
this video spoke to my heart.... all this time trying to tell my friends Every Single Point you brought up... but alas... they were never neopetters... . they would never understand
this video is so TRUE!!!!!! i can finally be put to rest knowing this information is immortalized on the internet this video is awesome thank u
From what I understand the reason they got john legend on is because chrissy teigen has been on neopets forever and was a comment board moderator at a point. And as far as people that would be brand ambassadors i think June @/actuallyrea would have been a great choice! :]]
I actually kinda love that for Chrissy
Many thanks to the flashpoint archive for catching all the games on neopets and keeping them playable
(Yes I can't play Neopets on my laptop forever now.)
The classic games update with Ruffle is a amazing development but I play Usul Suspects and I can't restart the game after I claim my Neopoints... I have to hard refresh the website and it takes a bit to reload the game. (I also run in a potato laptop....)
I'm too forgiving of a Neopian right now and I can't really play a lot these days. And the pet trade market is also stressful. Happy with my badly named pets from kind people on the Neoboards pound page...
"Happy with my badly named pets from kind people on the Neoboards pound page..."
Same, if you have a rare painted pet with a bad name you don't have to worry about people stealing your pet....
I hope the game is still up somewhere!
that eyelash/eyeshadow combo is rly hypnotic
As a Gen-Z kid who couldn't quite get into Neopets, I'm pretty interested in the new projects that this team is working on, tbh. I feel like a lot of us were too used to the physically explorable virtual worlds/pet-sims like Webkinz to really get into the text-based Neopets design, so I'd definitely be down to explore Neopia in 3D.
Didn't think there'd be a Neopets equivalent to Tommy Tallarico, I probably shouldn't have been surprised lmfao
Having a cash shop at all with the site in this state is downright insulting.
finally, someone who understands how much of a banger the juice break game song is
What about ice cream machine???
The “shambling husk” image was such a jumpscare🤣🤣
I've been playing neopets since i was 10, I'm 26 now and still have my neopets and log them into a hotel once a month for the whole month so they dont starve. When they lost the server for the key quest game it all went downhill, its so sad
I have no idea about most of the things you talk about (I'm gen z from post-soviet country) but I'm in live with your videos. You're an incredible narrator!
"i hope you live forever in poverty" is now stuck in my head
i used to play neopets as a kid and impossible for newcomers is accurate. i loved the designs, games, and lore but it was hard to make money and i also didn't like how interacting with your pets mostly came from a dropdown button. it felt mechanical for lack of a better word. my neopets days ended when we had to repair the computer and i couldn't access my account after that. it does have a lot of nostalgic memory for me but it also made me wonder why i stuck with it for so long
As a (former?) neopets fan I love that you did such a comprehensive video, I can tell how much you care about and love the old neopets that we all loved to play so much as kids.
It's not a Scunthorpe Problem, it's a Scunthorpe Solution!
This is irrelevant to the content of the video itself, but I LOVE your makeup! (As you can tell by my icon, I am... A *little* biased, to say the least, LOL)
I still have so much love for Neopets in my heart and that Meepit Juice Break music hit me like a truckload of bricks
Ugh needed a video from you right now. I really wish we could get the old internet back, but with every year more disappointments stack up.
as someone who did not play neopets but is also facing the same suffering at the hands of an incompetent team behind a children's game with a majority veteran player audience and hardly any actual kids, i feel so seen
What game?
Your makeup in this vid is so stunning, I was like :O when I clicked on the video
omg your bangs look so good and literally i was just about to look up a video about the neopets situation!!
i had a neopets as a kid and went back a few times, watching it slowly deteriorate each time. its like a long, sad death march.
So you're telling me that the website is largely broken because the people who run it understand HTML less than the kids who used it to build interactive bazaar shops in the early 2000's
your voice is unbelievable pleasant
I loved this site! My BFF and I had a sleepover specifically so we could both get the Hanah and the Pirate Caves avatar. I played the game for both of us and she looked up tips and guides online and helped me navigate. We learned little baby bits of HTML so we could personalize our pages. My mom was like some kind of jelly and bottled sand mogul. She was constantly searching for cheap sand and refilling her shop. Those were the days 🥰
This was thoroughly informative and enjoyable to watch despite having never visited the neopets site
I'm not done the video yet, but I heard the Gaia Word Bump music and felt like I ran into an old friend ☺️
A large part of the french speaking community got banned on that day.
the mention of keyquest brought me sooooooo much nostalgia omg 🥺.... i miss playing that game so bad. neopets was so awesome
oh, neopets…. how i miss thee. i was actually super active on the forums as a youth! they had one for roleplaying that i used to spend hours upon hours on. people would convert their pet pages to profiles for commonly used roleplaying character, with pictures and backstories and everything. my very first OCs!!! and the place where i first learned what html even was. i wonder if you even have those capabilities anymore? oh the nostalgia runs deep
Habitarium is being restored (slowly) by one of the programmers volunteering at Grundo's Café! It would be so so SO easy for Neopets to bring in one of those programmers to help them out with game files but nooooooo
I miss that game sooo much!! 😭
💔 was the best game on the site!! Plus hannah and the pirate caves 🤭❤
Do you know where to get updates on habitarium? 🤩
I got a hard to get faerie pet thanks to the faerie event. 😊
I think I need to go and make a new Neopets account. Unfortunately my childhood account was on a since lost email.
I once got in trouble for saying the word "something" in a game because it had the word "meth" in it
I had never even REALIZED that until that day
YAYYYY i don't think i'm this excited about anyone else's uploads
I believe Chrissy Teigen plays Neopets more than I do that John knows what a Neopet is
But I can't imagine that John costs more than say a Ninja, some streamer that if you told me they played Neopets I'd be like "Yeah I see it in their eyes"
I had the red dragon neopet many years ago. I didn't know they were still around. Thank you for making this video Miss Li.
Your makeup looks so good I love it
That site's history was unhinged, to say the least. One thing I really love that you do is source the background music you use. Some RUclipsrs are really stingy, and I don't know their deal is.
Off topic but omg Li!!!! That lip colour suits you so well! And the eye makeup is superb ❤
Li: "What's this?"
Commercial: "THIS IS MICHAEL'S MAKER HAUL"
for me it was temu😭
girl that makeup is fire, it looks so good on you ❤
The website set up isn't for kid friendliness. Its design is set up for a mobile/app version.
Many of the inane design choices (like the menu run you have to do to see your pets) is classic mobile MO.
Two minutes in and I'm confident this is the type of neopets video essay I'm into. Liked and subbed
27:27 IS THAT FAMOUS AND WELL KNOWN VOCALOID6 VOCALOID HARUKA!?!?!?
I don't even know who John Legend with myself being a neopets fanatic back in the day, so I feel like there's some critical misplay in marketing here.
the background music the nostalgia that hit
I actually got nostalgic recently and made a new account glad to know I missed the soulless era
