Patman, there isn't enough words in the English language to tell you how phenomenal you truly are. Super Pac-Man is a great arcade game.
Thanks a ton! I really enjoy this game as well
Pac-Man and Super Pac-Man are some of my earliest video game memories. Super Pac-Man was such a big part of my early (like toddler-era) childhood. I vividly remember seeing the cabinet at the roller rink, the character in the cartoon, and eating the Super Pac-Man cereal.
Sounds exactly like me :-)
This is my favorite Pac-Man game. Yes, way more so than the original.
There was a Pac Man clone arcade I played in the early 80’s as a kid. It was called “Pop Man” and it was Popeyes head instead of Pac Man. It was weird but fun and I remember spending many quarters on it. Thanks for the video.
One of my favorite games! I'll save this video for later when I can have a heavy beer and some crysps with it in piece.
Excellent, hope you enjoy it
Super Pac-Man was one of my favorites as soon as it was released. I played it a lot at a local luncheonette and later on a Commodore 64. Once I started collecting arcade games, I got a Super Pac-Man that had been converted to Jr. Pac-Man but included most of the Super parts. After I opened my arcade, I bought another Super Pac-Man that hadn’t been converted but was in rough condition. I cleaned it up, swapped my control panel onto it (better condition) and repainted most of the damaged artwork. It operates in my arcade daily. I’m still hoping to reconvert my original Super back to Junior and I have an empty, black painted Super cabinet that I hope to make into another game.
I found it at a roller skating rink back in the mid-90’s and decided to play it. I played it using some of my old patterns and was doing so well that a few people were watching me. When I finally lost my last life, I entered my initials for the high score and turned around to see a big group of people who were watching and cheering. It was one of those special moments in life.
Why in the world Marvel tried to sue
For?
They don't own the super name?
Guessing they thought they were
DC comics.😂
Identity crisis.
Nice story. That is really cool 😊
Ps: your arcade looks AMAZING. Thats my dream hangout. Im in England - but if-and-when i make it to NJ? I will definitely be there to spend a few evenings playing games. 😃
That is pretty cool. Thanks for sharing
Never played this one. Great video as always.
Thank you for showing all of the cut-scenes. I had a pattern for this game back in the day. My dad sold hunting, fishing, and trapping supplies and one of his accounts was a local campground and they had a tabletop Super Pac-Man so every time my dad went to the campground I got to go along and play. My pattern took me all the way through the "presents" stage. My pattern broke down in later levels though when the keys started opening different doors than the doors they opened in my pattern. I still got really far in the game and onlookers and the owners of the campground were quite impressed by my scores. When the owners of the campground finished their business with my dad they always came over by me to see what kind of score I was racking up. Ahh the memories.
That's prettty awesome, thanks for sharing
I 1st learned about this game from watching the ‘80’s Comedy Film “Joysticks” on RUclips in the early years of RUclips.
I seem to recall watching the movie
Ahhhhhh Joysticks. Porky's but with a arcade game bent.
I remember having the cereal during my Saturday morning cartoon frenzy (back when they actually HAD cartoons on Saturday mornings) and especially the Saturday Morning Supercade! I played the arcade game too back then next to the strangely made Pacman Jr. pinball game! I remember all of those cereals back then like Donkey Kong Cereal, Smurf Berry Crunch, (which was my favorite, and wished they made it still) Nerds Cereal, and later the duo box of Super Mario Brothers/Legend of Zelda amongst other game cereals which was very cool back then!
It was actually baby Pac-Man which was the hybrid pinball videogame. Oh, I forgot all about Smurf Berry crunch! And donkey Kong breakfast cereal! Those were really good.
A trip down memory lane. Thanks for another good video. Pac-Man has been my favorite ever since I was a kid in the early '80s and I suck at it now but I still love it. You could say I still have Pac-Man fever.
Always one of my favorite Pac-Man titles as well. Thanks
I watched a bunch of your video's 2 weeks ago. and I loved it so much i couldn't find it again.
I just spent about an hour trying to remember your name. I found it when i typed in Happy Little game. Which I didn't remember I had to think about what every video started with.
Love unwinding at the end of the day and watching one of your videos just before bed.
This really is such an underrated Pac-Man entry. I'm glad to see that it's getting its due in arcade compilations. Though it does speak volumes about Crazy Otto being made into the official Ms. Pac-Man, and how it completely overshadowed the game's actual sequel like that. I have seen some of the cartoon series, but only a couple with Super Pac in there. He was voiced by Lorenzo Music, just after he started being the voice of Garfield. In the cereal commercial, he's voiced by Paul Winchell.
I agree, it's a great game. Thanks for the info
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries The Pac-Man cartoon was just before my time, and I didn't get a chance to see any of it until they initially hit RUclips years ago. I quite liked what I saw, and hearing Lorenzo Music do a Dudley Do-Right type voice for Super Pac cracked me up. Much different from the more sardonic or lethargic characters he'd usually play.
I remember discovering this game. The cab was located in a small alcove under the escalators in Sears. It's the only time I ever came across one. I thought it was weird and challenging but never got to get good at it because we didn't go there very often and it was gone soon thereafter.
Of course I've played it lot since, especially the 5200 port. The original controllers are not to best at maze type games but they do alright if you get used to it.
For the Pac Man cereal commercial, Paul Winchell (who voiced Gargamel in the 80’s “Smurfs” cartoon) was Super Pac Man (using a similar voice to Gargamel and Dick Dastardly; long ago he’d used it as the voice to his dummy, “Jerry Mahoney,” when he was a Ventriloquist)
Say, Patman: Intermission 1 from the 1st Pac Man
was some clever foreshadowing, eh?
Every new video turns my blues into ghosts
And chases them away
Another great video to watch on the way to work. Love your videos man, keep on truckin.
When in the “Bonus Stages,” Pac Man is in his Super Pac State and you can hold down the button and keep that Super Speed up until you complete the maze or the bonus timer hits zero.
I'm gonna go a bit Adam Conover on ya on the cartoon series concerning Super Pac. ACTUALLY, before the Super Pac character was created for Season Two, Hanna-Barbera did produce an episode in Season One honoring the game itself.
In the fifth episode, the first sub-episode, 'Super Ghosts,' has Mezmaron transform our Ghost Monsters into Super Ghost Monsters. After another early failure (the GMs being disguised as Power Pellet trees), our ghastly crew head back to Mezmaron's lair. Using a super potion, they become the Super Ghosts, and are ordered to attack Pac-Land until someone reveals the location of the Power Pellet Forest.
Naturally, Pac-Man is alerted and not realizing the new threat, gulps down some power pellets to go after his foes. The next scene, we see the Super Ghosts terrorizing the Pac-Land citizens, with scenes inspired by Superman II. Pac-Man ends up saving his wife, Ms. Pac-Man (Pepper), only to have both of them chomped by the Super Ghosts.
However, just as they are about to force Pac-Man to reveal the location, Super Sue realizes they are so powerful, they no longer need to contact Mezmaron. Thus they end up rebelling, and continue spreading havoc upon Pac-Man. Meanwhile, Pepper and Packy head back to his Security Office, where she creates a recipe for two Super Power Pellets. ('Either these will make us really super strong, or really super sick.') Note here, the two Super Power Pellets vaguely resemble the pulsating pellets Pac-Man eats in the game to become Super Pac-Man. Fortunately, they don't get super sick, and become the Super Pacs.
As expected, they make quick work of the Super Ghosts, this time leaving only eyes and a cape when they get chomped. Afterwards, the townsfolk cheer Super Pac-Man as he is flying around, whereas a normal Ms. Pac warns him that he better come down. Just then the effects wear off (just like in the game) causing Pac-Man to crash-land into some trash cans.
This was interesting since Super Pac-Man had debuted just after the cartoon series had come out (October 1982). So I suspect the writers wanted to do an episode roughly based on the game. Later on, in Season Two, the Super Pac character made his debut, voiced by Garfield's original voice, Lorenzo Music.
Oh yeah, I think I remember that episode!! 😮
Cool Super Pac-Man Power Pellet Presentation, Pat-Man! 😛 Super Pac-Man was a challenge controlling Mr. Pac when he turned giant through the tiny maze combined with the faster speed. Interesting game ports too. I can go for a bowl of Pac-Man Cereal while playing Super Pac-Man and watching Adventures of Pac-Man Hanna-Barbera show. Thanks!
Always love your videos patman 😎
still my favorite game of all time. even after 200 video reviews, it is still my number one ranked game.
I think it's a lot of fun as well
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries - I held the hi-score at Pixel Blast Arcade in Lile IL until they closed
One of my all time favorites too, Patman! :) oh yeah- and that cereal commercial- more like Super Gargamel Pac-man :D
LOL good call, I didn't even notice
Another great video brother I've never played this version so I will grab some beers and sit down at my cabinet tonight and give it a try!
I remember playing Pac-Man and Ms Pacman at Pizza Hut and even arcades Good times playing it I'm here watching the cartoon and I didn't even know it came up with the cereal but I wish that general Mills would bring it back
All I agree, I loved the Breakfast cereal
I totally forgot about this game... but now being reminded by your video I can remember how bad I was at it - I was a pretty good Pac Man player back in my youth, but this one got the better of me
I thought this was a PAC MAN video not a PAT MAN lol! As always thanks for another awesome retrospective PatmanQC
LOL, thanks
I once added this game to an arcade tournament lineup, but I had to jack up the difficulty. Typical difficulty settings are R3 or R4. I maxed out the difficulty to R12 and boy did I get backlash from the community.
Holy smokes Patman !!! Keep the awesome videos coming !!!!
Cant wait for Pac-Manic, My 2nd favorite pacman game because 3d in the 80's
Only time I saw this one was in the early '80s. I used to live near an amusement park and people who lived in the city could enter for free. I went there in the mornings and played their arcade games and found this one. Unfortunately, when I returned weeks later, it was gone.
The game seems to have less on the screen, less stuff to eat.
That's because they aren't just simple dots.
I still rule at this game...loved it as a kid and have since.
Awesome video Patrick !🎉
great video, didn't know super pacman is not the original pacman
Super Pac Man is underrated. Fun game
I agree, I really like it
superb history video loved it buddy
Goodness that MSDOS version reminded me of being tied to a chair why someone with long fingernails scratching down a chalkboard. Goodness that was rough to watch. LOL Great video Patman!!!
LOL, thanks
Did you know Less Than Jake perform live in their concerts "The Pac Man Cereal Jingle ( You can do the Pac Man!) "?
Awesome video
Thanks!
I still have the plug and play game 👏🇬🇹
Excellent
Huge fan of the animated series and a big fan of Pacland! This game however I missed out on for some reason, I’m definitely going to look into it though and see what ways I can play! Another stellar vid and lesson my friend, thank you!
I loved the cartoon as well. That theme song is still rattling around in my head
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Lol, hmmm me too 🤔
@@retrobeliever I think the game pac-land Had something to do with it. Love that game
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-DocumentariesI could see that, and same! I love the hidden stuff behind the hydrants/cactuses. And it’s interesting to see some regional differences like the cross not being on the chapel. My favorite version is the TG-16 one 🤷🏼♂️
11:49. That's Paul Winchell as the voice of Super Pac-Man
Good call
After Ms Pac-Man, Pac-Land was my favorite Pac-Man game. I don't think I ever played Super Pac-Man.
Give it a shot
Love to see a Pac n Pal video!
I loved this game when I was a callow as a fan of Pac-Man and Superman!
Sounds like me :-)
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Are we twins? ;)
When I first saw a Pac Man game it was called 'Glutton'.
I guess that not many people knew what a glutton is, so they went with Pac Man because MAN, can he ever PAC it away!
LOL, sounds plausible
Sorry! I ment you should do HISTORY of Pac Mania. I made the one before before i heard you mention it.
This was probably the only Pac-Man game I have beaten on a single credit. I actually beat the last stage & it returns to the first pattern, a bit harder though.
Awesome!
Never played super pacman, but played loads of atari 2600 pacman as an 80s kid, yeah it was a crappy port, but i didnt know any better. Thanks for the super informative documentary as always PatmanQC!
Me too
I have a Coleco rom cart and I play iton my Colecovision with original controllers. Not as good as the 7800 but def nicely playable
Very well done!
it blew my 6 year old mind when it came out. i had a pac t shirt and pac hat😂 never played it much in arcade though
I had the board game, but he sure, the watch etc. I was a Pac-Man fanatic
Just played this at my rec center.
Also played in youth church years
Ago.
Very cool, I should have played it at galloping ghost when I was there
PatManQC the most baddest of ass badass cyborgs that has or will ever exist! Sorry T2 T-800 “Uncle Bob” Arnie, you can’t compete!!!
PatManQC good sir id just like to let ya know that I got my 13 year old nephew hooked on your vids! I also showed him the film The Jerk and he loves it lol!!!
Anyways keep on kickin ass my friend! Cheers!!!
Thank you
Thanks for watching
Patman is SUPER ❤
Pat i hope all is well!
I only tried this game on plug-and-play games from the 2000s-10s. The joystick wasn't great when pac becomes Super Pac-Man.
I was never very good at this, but it was fun to play. Are you going to cover the lesser known Professor Pac Man someday?
Perhaps, I'm sure I'll have to do the entire pac family At some point
Was anyone else super confused to hear the voice of Gargamel coming out of Pac-Man for the cereal commercial? HAHA!!
I never heard of Super Pac-Man, Pac-Man Plus, or Pac & Pal 😮
You should look up out Pac Mania.
Please do a video (or videos) on the Time Cisis series
We need a PacmanQC Edition
I’m more of gradius 2 not life force salamander but only the pc engine version on Tuesdays at 15:34
good times. in brazil!!! im very good in pac man super pac man e ms pac man. !!! i love it
Thank you, it is one of my favorites as well
Junior Pac-Man and Ms Pac-Man were better successors than Super Pac-Man though. Baby Pac-Man was fun to a point too.,
I know you mentioned the 1ups but I saw the cabinet and it looked nothing like mine. The legacy arcade 1up cabinet for Pac-man includes super just in case this info was missing
I think it's in a few different cabinets
@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries yeah, it probably is and you covered most anyways. Great video and yes, I played super pac-man and I was glad I did.
A NEW Video! BOOM SHAKALAKA!!!
From downtown :-)
19:45 That EGA version is horrible. EGA was very good for its time. Full 16 color graphics with no limits (color rules) Any pixel can be any of the 16 colors of the selected pallet without limitation. It's basically the Jr /Tandy 1000 16 color mode but at a higher resolution of 320x200. Super Pac Man never has more than 16 colors. Plus, EGA was introduced with the PC AT, which was a 286 machine, so all the choppiness is unforgivable and there's no reason for it. Commander Keen 4 is EGA and 286 compatible. Monkey Island is EGA and 286 compatible.
Do pac jr next.
14:24 What the heck, why'd it let him into the ghost pen?
The arcade version was the first official Pac-Man game to allow him into the ghost house.
This was the first game to allow it
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Huh, I never realized that was possible.
Never got the allure of pacman and I was born in 76. Horace goes skiing shat all over it for me
Hello l have played pac man special color edition on the gbc
Very cool, it's a good version
Hello @PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries I like pac man special color edition on the gbc better than the original pac man
I never realized he was supposed to be flying. Learn something new etc...
The first time I learned that my mind was blown! It makes sense though why he would pass through the ghosts unharmed. I just assumed it was because he was super
you know what? i knew many pac man games but not super pac man !
Very cool
Never in my did I think to connect super pac man and super heroes. The cape thing escaped me, I just never saw it. Frankly, I think it's a terrible game that really just is trying to cash in on the pac man. While Ms Pac Man and even Pac Man Plus took the things about Pac Man that made it a very good game and improved on them and made a great game. It's not exactly every day, but I still see Ms Pac Man cabinets in commercial use running and waiting for the next quarter to be inserted. Super Pac Man came and went. Most of the ports I know of are not very good. The guy who wrote the C64 version said he's ashamed of it or something to that effect.
9:00 meshuggah?
Does it have a kill screen or loop around harder or something?
I don't think it has a kill screen but who knows
I have it and the 5200 controller works pretty good for me! Also those pink leaves look like asses lol
LOL somebody else mentioned that they look like boobs
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries LMAO!
I will play Super Pac-Man .😀👍🎮
Have fun my friend
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries ok I will. 😀👍🎮
It's painful watching the game being played so poorly. Especially with him mentioning super speed while the game being played on screen never once uses super speed.
Super Pac was a great game but how exactly do you top Ms. Pac-Man? You don't. Amirite? A great example of how keeping it super simple kept the appeal for small kids, ladies and casual players. Making it more complicated... made it over most player's head's so it mostly just appealed to superfans. Also that music... OUCH it's like someone is taking a 💩in both ear holes! 😫

As a kiddo, and a huge Pac-Man addict. I saw Super Pac-Man and I couldn't believe how cool it looked, but when I played it I was so confused by it that I never tried again. Maybe I should give it another chance as an old man.
It's different, but fun.
Yeah my 8 year old self couldn't understand it either. But my first time I played it I was going to Chuck E. Cheese for the first time so there were so many new games, it was sensory overload for me lol
Don't bother. It really wasn't a very good game.
@@christhompson2006 Oh I don't know. Now that I understand the objective it looks fun.
@@chrisprescott2273Just remember you only have 2 of the Super Power Pellets, and the button gives you Super Speed. Also, YOU flash when the power pellet is about to wear off, so don’t do anything you can’t get out of.
A new Patman video? On my birthday? There is a God, lol
Happy Birthday 🎂
@@kfUNC1 thank you very much
Great video
One suggestion to improve quality, whenever you have a mono clip (@11:53 only left sounds) just copy the clip to the right channel. Will not be stereo but will be a lot better than having nothing on the right
I had the arcade cabinet as a kid!
I never could get enough of all the pac-man games. Now I teach kids how to code pac-man and make their own arcade cabinets
That is really cool
Grinding an eighth and rolling joints to smoke while watching your video!
Another solid video taking me back to memory lane playing Super Pac Man at a local billiards growing up in Connecticut. Thank you Pat Man!!
I was really surprised that Pac-Land didn't have a cameo of Super Pac-Man in it, considering that he appeared in the cartoon series and the game is based off that.
The description of the sound effects on the MS DOS version was the Easter Egg I was hoping for!
LOL thanks
Hell yeah😎
Enjoy
2:21 KC Munchkin is an excellent game and a lot more fun than 2600 Pac Man. That is probably why Atari sued them and not Namco. They actually admitted what the salesman at the store told the lawyer, which is that it was like pac man despite not being anything like Pac Man. It was a terrible legal decision and affected games for years.
Thank you, patman, for this excellent coverage of my favorite classic arcade game of all time!
