John T. The playing of the spoons (bones) goes way back in history,. Recorded history places them in Egypt, Rome, China, Greece, Russia. During the crusades armies would "play bones", to alert other troops that the enemy was coming. To Britain, which the Scots-Irish brought to America. A large. majority of the Scots-Irish immigrants moved west into the Appalachia Mountains, they brought the fiddle, guitar and guitar sliding (drone), they incorporated the African American banjo, and African rhythms from the slave populations, and they fused all that together with elements of their tradition Celtic folk music, which formed the basis of the country music genre. They also brought with them the church music from Europe. Those influences and traditions combined with their church music became gospel music, and hymns. Which spread out all through the south, to the black community, they developed a style that infiltrated to their churches, and they shaped it becoming the blues. Elvis Presley had an influence of all of this mountain music, and southern music and developed his own unique style. My family is from the Appalachia Mountains and I grew up listening to country and bluegrass and I am very proud to say that.
Wow. I had no idea the Scots had doins with country music. I love history and music so thankyou for that tidbit. I'm munna chaw on that for a while. We have some beautiful history here in America. Too bad it's changing so much. That's why I'm glad to see people like this and you tellin about it to keep it alive cuz that's pretty much all we got now.
Abby, I found u on you tube bout a year ago.... Now I show everyone I see your videos. I could watch and listen to u all day. U are truly amazing.... God blessed u with this special art and I for one am glad he did. U are a shining star and your smile and the way u Play is contagious!!!!! God bless you
Crazy, but as a young Latin girl in elementary school in the south, I watched Hee Haw & it introduced me to these old styles of music. My mom never understood where I found a liking for these, but it's truly from the heart & I love it!
YESSSS. I remember somebody playing them on Hee Haw too. when I was a kid. I was mesmerized tried to play for the longest time forgot about it until I saw Abbey. Much love
Amazing, pure, and beautiful. You don’t just play music or rhythm, you show your spirit and pure joy every time you pick up the spoons. I wish I felt the happiness you do while playing.
Blessed… is that silly, having come across your video's? What I enjoy the most outside of the personality that shines through both of your instruments, is the simple goodness. You can go to a headlining concert (and pay a ridiculous price) and get all the 'manufactured' music you like or you can come across Miss. Abby (solo/w friends) and be thoroughly entertained. Apple Pie Goodness. SWEET!
@@johnivanp Yes I agree with you John. Have you ever seen them in person? My daughter told me that she was not able to get tickets for Abby&Chris's show in Black Mountain NC. She was kidding me. I really enjoyed it👭 and I love them . I have a coffee cup that I brought while I was there. I spent the most money that. And whenever I get home. Make coffee pour it into my cup . My cup had a hairline crack in it. Coffee went all over the table. This was 2/22/2019. My daughter sent email and I have sent 2 emails about my cup. Today is 4/26/2019 .No response from anyone. This makes me sad. Because I feel in love with them. I thought that they cared about their FANS ! BANDS AND GRUPS MAKE IT WITH THE HELP OF FANS. DID THEY GET A VEHICLE TO GET TO CHARLOTTE THIS WEEKEND I HOPE SO.
Here I go again. I got the happy feet. I'll be back..... Yee haw praise God for good feeling. One of his little gifts thank u. Feel blessed to see such talent.😇😇💝
You would have been in good company at a few of our family functions Abby:) Your music reminds me of good times and lovely memories of family . My Great Uncle Stanley and Great Aunty Annie had everything imaginable to make music. Thank You for taking me back to that time . Love your music
Abby you are a breath of fresh air to watch perform. I would love to see you dance to this type of song. It's obvious your legs want to be free to cut loose ha. You two have got a good thing going for yourselves, I hope financially you make out very well. Oh and I love your🐾 dog. ☮️
I have been watching your videos several months and really enjoy them. My wife and I were in Asheville about three years ago. Wish I knew about you then and made the effort to watch you live.
Ms Abby, you truly are so beautiful. Always of course. When you are performing though you just dance with the spoons. It’s mesmerizing. I just love the music too! Lol Thank you for sharing your gift & also for teaching us to play the spoons too. Although I totally suck…I am trying ❤️
This is really cool abby , first time viewer of your playing , love what you all are doing in really lucky to have this window into your world and share in your talent
You have no idea how you inspire me, and untold others no doubt. There are many days, that your music, smiles, and demeanour, makes me fall asleep with a natural smile on my face, you have helped me and inspired me so much by reminding me of my old days. Abby, I thank you, and wish you to have everything you need, may this life be joyful, full of kindness and meaningfullness X
I just love the 🎶 Abby is awesome I was the gypsy as a kid on my own at 14 I had a blast but it's different now and I am older and a little wiser because of it !!!
After one damn long day of tired and low, I knew I needed me some go to lady of peaceful smiles for dancing so I clicked on and looked up and saw Lyle!!!! No Way!!! :) I know Lyle!!!! I think the last time I saw him he was playing on the back of a mule barge going down the canal back home! Or our mutual friends bday party at Gobblers on the Point!!!! Heaven gave me Many much needed smiles of Love today!!! Well hey there Lyle! ❤
Today started out right into yesterday's devastating news. Thanks for posting this music although it can make me melancholy it also makes me smile, and I needed that. Superb
How can someone make music like that w/ "spoons"? Spoon Lady is awesome! I hope her skill never dies and she can pass along this old tradition to some special people! God Bless Her! I feel blessed finding her on You Tube!
As a youngster I played spoons behind my Daddy’s guitar. I wish I had had your sense of flair. Decades later I am learning to play the mountain dulcimer. Y’all are an inspiration to all us beginners. Thank you
I love watching the high musicians get when there absolutely in the moment of a good jam. They disappear off with the fairys. The smile os a beautiful sight.
Abby, I've been listening to your music & watching your videos and you have truly given me happiness. I tried to play spoons but found my using them to eat was safer! I wish I could see you in person one day but can't travel that far to NC. Sending hugs though! You have a beautiful spirit that shines.
I'm proud to be from Appalachia and proud of my heritage Abby plays the spoons so well and has that country feel to her keep on playing Abby because of you I am now curious about learning to play the spoons.
She plays so fast it doesn't even look like the spoons move! My aunt tried playing, bc her dad, my grandfather, used to play the spoons when she was a kid... Not easy, lol! Awesome! I can't wait to share this with her!
Love you Abby... Richard here with the zAmya Theater Project in Minneapolis MinneSota...Would Love to Meet you All SomeDay...Consider...The Theater. Thank you Continue to Bless us...thank you all. Richie.Brinda.
Abby I love this! You are the first person I've ever seen that plays spoons of all things. You have a gift from God you know. Always give Him the glory for that. You look so much like my aunt that died a year ago. It's uncanny. It looks like you could charge people to give them lessons on learning to play spoons. I would love to try to learn. I used to play the piano quite well but haven't played in years. You get rusty if you don't practice some. I would love to know a little more about your background, your age and stuff. How long have you been playing and if you have had any formal training. Aren't you afraid to go places by yourself and try to get by without any family with you and no real home? People are so mean nowadays I would be afraid. Have you ever had any bad experiences anywhere? Do you ever play in Chattanooga or have a certain time you are playing in a certain city? I know I've asked you a lot of questions but I just think you are such a unique person. Have a great day and be careful out there.
Deborah J Ellenburg wow that was a little insensitive. Just cuz she plays mean spoons doesn't make her an uneducated back water hillbilly. And why would you want to know if anything bad has ever happened to her? Would you share that information with a random idiot on the internet?
I agree! That isn't something that you would want to share. I think Abby is fantastic! I would love to see her perform in public. She is a true artist!
Why from God why not from her , practicing and working hard at every day why does that have to be from god,can u religious people ever say it's from me the hard work I put into it ,the dedication I put into ,what if Abby got into in accident and lost her hands
Would we then say well that was the work of the Lord ,that she lost her hands see when things happen an a negative way it has nothing to do with god right.doesnt make sense ,she has this talent because she practiced and mastered it not because of God,but because of her and her brain.give credit to yourself and that's the only person u should praise
In the words of Rock and Roll, as Neil Young said:long May You Run, Abby! Btw,you are one pretty dame, thank you for being one special gift to the world of music.
My mom used to play the spoons, she said it wasn't easy. I tried and I believe her, you make it look so easy, but I bet it took practice for you to become such a master at this :)
she has such a warm smile. looks tired though. i hope Ms Abby is healthy. love watching. very charismatic. may she continue to be successful at everything she does :-)
Abby has to be the most beautiful performer I have ever seen. Her flow is unbelievable and body language is pure art! You guys rock!

bones seem similar but the playing technique is somewhat different. But then again i always encourage to try as many instruments as possible.
