As someone who’s gone thru SA, this is ridiculous. Caiti was never physically forced to do anything with. From her perspective, she actively engaged in it because she felt special and didn’t want to miss out being “intimate” with a big creator. However, sexual acts you regret is not SA. I don’t think she should have accused him of sexual assault so lightly, as there are actual victims out there.
The argument that “she could still be traumatised” by a lot of her supporters is valid, however she shouldn’t have blamed George for her feelings. In the moment she wanted it, even if she only wanted it as he was a big creator. She is a grown woman that went to a drinking party illegally, so obviously you would assume everyone there is 21 and over.

SA doesnt require you to be physically forced to do something. if they did something sexual and he initiated it that would be SA since she was drunk and so couldnt consent
the only real room for arguments on what happened is where she was specifically touched since both have been vague about it
IMO george implies he touched her breasts since he talks about moving his hand further up and focuses so much on that while separating it from stuff like touching her waist and the tickling/squeezing

I am not down playing her feelings but he did not assault her, period. The way everyone jumped on him and cut him off is horrible. In the time of crisis people show their true colors, guess his “friends” showed theirs. This could have been all hashed out privately and not over social media, does he really need to be ruined over a touch of her hip? Maybe some therapy would do her good, not streaming it to the world.

won’t say this on twitter bc i’d probably get doxxed or threatened, but as a victim of sexual assault and rape (while i was blackout drunk and the other party was sober) this situation feels a bit overblown. Yes, there are things George could have done to prevent it, but at the same time i personally wouldn’t classify a hand on the waist after hours of drunk cuddling SA. I believe Catie has a right to be uncomfortable, but the way she initially made this situation out was much much worse than reality. In reality, they were cuddling, both drunk, and George rested his hand on her waist/side. He didn’t force himself on her, he didn’t try and kiss her, he didn’t intentionally pressure her into anything. Alongside this, when they left that night and got to the elevator, he didn’t try to make her come with him, he amicably parted with her and had no knowledge that she was uncomfortable. I feel like people calling this SA are being a bit disingenuous and not understanding that the real world isn’t black and white or so cut and dry. This easily could have been settled privately if she or anyone had actually expressed their concerns instead of keeping him in the dark.

when you have been through a traumatic experience like SA, *especially* if you were drunk, there are going to be pieces missing. your brain also does it's best to block out the trauma for a long time after because it knows the truth will ruin your worldview & trust in the world.
my brain would block out my abuse for years, so i kept going back to the dangerous person & situation because i literally didn't know the trap or situation i was getting myself into every time.
it was only years later that bits & pieces started to come back, there were huge chunks of memory missing, slowly i started to regain my memory, there are still some pieces missing that i don't know if i'll ever get back but i hope i will.
i never drank the entire time, all the years, before & after my abuse, being drunk had nothing to do with my memory issues, but i can imagine them being confusing & excacerbating trauma memory issues in Caiti's situation.
as someone who has experienced SA multiple times from different people, there is a mindblock, yes you can *technically* leave but you mentally don't feel like you are allowed to, if you do leave, you are the bad person for leaving, that they will make it worse for you the next time if you do leave or even try to leave, that you have to go back to them & make them feel better after for what they did, that you deserved it & it was the price for being there, being around that person.
with SA the way my mind was, there wasn't even an option to not be a part of it, there was only an option of how much "control" do you want ? a little bit of "control" & gentle, or no control & rough.
it was going to happen regardless of what i wanted so which way did i want it ? did i want to make them angry ? no i didn't want to upset them or make them angry so i "complied" with what they did to me.
i would try to stop them but try to make it seem like it's not a big deal, more so in front of others, in way they couldn't be upset with me for, they said i would "play fight" with them & it was "just joking".
which they then used over & over again.
i didn't want to upset them or make them angry so i "complied" with what they did to me, "you didn't leave" "you enjoyed it" "you didn't stop me" "you were just joking"
i cuddled, laughed & smiled before & after my abuse, every time, at them & others, because i didn't want them to be upset or angry at me, or blame me. some of my abuse happened surrounded by people i loved & cared about & they didn't notice, they thought everything was fine, they thought it was a joke when they pretended they were going to hurt me & pretended they were only joking when they strangled me a bit, & i didn't want to make a scene.
Caiti talking about how she feels, how she felt, feeling dirty, that's a common experience among SA survivors. i feel that way almost daily, for the past 18 years.
i flinch, when accidently touched & relive what happened a lot.
i'm still scared that i misremember what happened, that it didn't happen, it was a bad nightmare, that i misunderstood, that it wasn't intentional, that it was an accident, that it wasn't those people it was someone else, that i'm just confused. i still sometimes hope that i'm crazy & delusional & wrong & that i imagined it, because that would be better than the alternative, that it all happened, that it's all true.
in regards to Caiti's situation :
      a) there is a power imbalance. no romantic or sexual relationship initiated by someone with a power imbalance is healthy & 9/10 times is abuse. he has power over her in 2 ways,
      1) he's older &
      2) he's famous / a role model / she looked up to him.
they weren't peers, they weren't on equal footing.
      b) she was drunk, he was drunk. him being drunk doesn't excuse his actions. she was drunk, she couldn't consent but
      c) he didn't even ask for consent. silence is not consent. cuddling someone, laughing & smiling at someone is not consent, especially not consent for sexual activities.
      d) they were strangers, they didn't know each other, they weren't in a long term romantic or sexual relationship, they (apparently) didn't even know each others ages.
      e) "hands going where i didn't ask them to go" "it wasn't out of nowhere" . they both implicitly, talk about & admit that sexual touching, groping, or whatever other word you want to use, happened, that's a fact, it wasn't *just* "tickling" .
i do not believe that George is a predator, i do not believe he meant to or intended to assault Caiti, but he did. he did assault her.
      * no one should assume they have the right to someone else's body, no should assume they have the right to touch someone, &/or test their boundaries &/or touch them sexually, especially not a stranger, especially when there is a power imbalance. consent has to be verbally expressed by both people involved, in other words enthusiastic consent. *

      @brainrot8802 2 месяца назад +9

@@rainbowglass8319 I mean, most of the things you brought up about the situation were directly addressed in the video. There's a big difference between 18 and 21. George had no idea he had as much power over her as he did in that regard. As for his status, he also explained that as well. She had a hotel on dream floor, was an invited guest to the con, she was friends with their friends, etc. He also didn't have much reason to consider that as a power imbalance in the moment, as explained in his thought process.
As for them both being drunk, it's stated by BOTH of them that she touched him back. It wasn't simply him cuddling her and being the only one to touch her. By the same token, she should have asked for his consent, no?
Unfortunately, in the vast majority of cases, consent isn't seen as a black and white strictly verbal thing. Body language and actions CAN be a form of consent when paired together. It's not incredibly common for two drunk people to cuddle and for one to say, while drunk, "can i put my hand on your waist." especially when they're already cuddling? Like that just feels like a logical extension that didn't go any further.
Nothing inherently sexual happened. They cuddled, her put a hand on her waist/side, tickled her while she played a game on her phone. That is not sexual. They had also been cuddling for a while and she repeatedly got up and came back to sit with him. It's so strange to me when people try to say things like "well i stayed with my abuser while i was in an abusive relationship! I went back to him constantly!" that is an extremely different scenario than the one painted for us. George isn't some serial abuser, he doesn't have a history of abusing people or Caiti. She could have, extremely easily, not sat back down and started cuddling again if she was uncomfortable. Nowhere in either of their statements was it said that he encouraged her to come back, forced her to come back, or made any indication that he would be upset or angry if she didn't. She assumed, without any basis really, multiple things about him and his behavior and just assumed that he would lash out or be violent or make a scene or get his ego hurt, all of these things. He, again, to our knowledge and the information provided, didn't do anything that would indicate and aggressive, erratic, or threatening behavior. So why did she go back to sit with him OTHER than her preconceived and constructed belief that he would have been hurt and offended by her moving?
I've said since the beginning of this situation that Caiti is entitled to her feelings and is allowed to feel however she feels, but this instance was far from assault. But that's just my opinion. Sexual assault is defined as "sexual behavior that occurs without the consent of the victim." George had logical reason to believe she would be okay with a waist/side touch, which again, isn't an inherently sexual act. It CAN be, but George didn't act on anything or make any sexual advances, mean it wasn't sexual. So I personally wouldn't consider what happened any form of sexual assault. I think this was massively overblown from the start (largely due to Caiti's phrasings and wordings in the original that, like her thought process that night, largely assume malice on george's behalf AND purposefully use words and phrases that strongly imply that the situation was much worse than reality. She left out key information, all of which made the situation and george look worse than it was, AND information was kept from george up until this video here. This could have easily been something discussed in private, this could have been resolved without airing things publicly. There was miscommunication on both sides. They both have fault.

I'm not dismissing Caiti's feelings, but I feel like she took advantage of the situation with Shelby or even the allegations against Dream. She knew the community would feel confused and vulnerable and trying to support victims. It had been months since the incident but this is when she addressed it. She spread a lot of misinformation, and we already know her friends don't like Dream, so they could be encouraging the situation. Yes, she could've regretted it or felt shame and discomfort, but she knew the myct, streamer, or dsmp community felt betrayed, ashamed, scared, hurt, and vulnerable and manipulated that.

Caiti's wording was extremely disingenuous in her original statement. When I first heard what happened, from the language she used I honestly thought George had r@ped her. But...they literally didn't even kiss. They cuddled, and he tickled her on the sides under her shirt. This might sound incredibly harsh, and I do put it down to her, perhaps, naïvety and growing up like a lot of cc's did - the internet, where real life is oversimplified with things like "consent is always verbal!" and "drunk people can't consent!" and other broad statements that delude you into thinking everyone has this black and white unrealistic and inflexible viewpoint - to where, being in an actual party environment, with people who did not grow up in this bubble and (rightly or wrongly) don't think they need to ask "are you ok?" before each and every interaction, would assume that the person would say something if they were uncomfy. As I said, right or wrong, it's all dependent on context. It's the same way I have friends I would banter and be more raunchy or offensive with, but other friends I know would be really horrified if I made a sexual joke to them. Neither is right or wrong, but when these bubbles cross paths, situations like what is happening with George and Caiti, can occur.
This has been blown out of proportion, especially on Twitter, which will always virtue-signal the extreme end of everything, ie. you must ask consent verbally BEFORE EVERYTHING and that George is somehow a paedophile from flirting and cuddling with a legal adult. "Freshly 18" means nothing and was clearly used to make the situation seem far seedier and more malicious than it is. Besides, she was "stale 18" if that means anything, because her birthday is January and this was in the summer. So, another falsehood.
Frankly, this should not have been the business of the internet. Yes, George, you probably should have asked for verbal consent, ESPECIALLY given that you know there have been (proven) unfounded accusations made about your friends in the past. However, this is ridiculous. I feel like we are no longer allowed to just move on from situations, look back and go "yeah, that was a mistake" or "yikes, what was I thinking!" lol Now it has to be predatory actions on behalf of the other person - there always has to be someone at fault.
My personal belief on what went down - Caiti was reciprocating because she was enjoying herself, however, when George began to progress things, she was nervous and didn't want to progress due to her own admitted inexperience. So...they didn't! They parted ways amicably.
However, when Caiti was back around her friend group, who clearly completely despise the Dream Team, this clouded her view of WHY she had felt nervous. I believe she was, at the time, because she looked up to George (which she admitted) and because she was a virgin (also which she said). But hearing all her friends repeatedly reinforce how disgusting George was for flirting with her, about the accusations against Dream, soured her memory. She now clearly views it as she was nervous because GEORGE was making her uncomfortable. That he was intentionally, MALICIOUSLY, doing that. So, in her mind, it went from “oh my gosh that was a lot” and “wow that made me realise I’m not ready for anything sexual” to suddenly “holy shit he was PREYING on me”.
They remember the interaction (mostly, as all memories fade over time) accurately, with George seeing it through a lens of "we both had a great time" and Caiti a lens of "oh my god, my friends were right, he was being creepy. he KNEW I was 18, he KNEW I was uncomfortable. He's a sexual predator!" But how could she know this?
In the end, it doesn't really make a difference to me which side - 'she regretted it after' vs. 'she hated it during' - is right or not. George isn't a mind-reader. If, as he says, she was smiling and reciprocating, how was he supposed to know she was uncomfortable? Caiti herself said that she went along with it because she was scared around other people and even kept coming back when she got up because of this fear, but when it came to getting into the elevator alone, she was confident enough to turn him down? The logic behind this doesn't align.
The only way George COULD have known Caiti was uncomfortable, without a doubt, is if she said it. Which she didn't. So how can SHE know that HE KNEW she was uncomfortable? She certainly didn't tell him herself, did she? She can only assume it based upon her, admittedly "blackout drunk" memories, and the recollection of people who already despise George and his friends. I simply don't see how one can say that is reliable enough to bring such serious accusations to the public eye. To not even reach out, say "hey, I was thinking about what happened at that party, and wanted to let you know I didn't like what ended up happening" is so so so bad faith, it's unbelievable. It, to me, shows her intentions behind this. Not to make George accountable so he learns, not to give herself some closure, but simply to make it as public and as damaging to George as possible. I imagine her friends were instrumental in "supporting" her in this decision.
This is an adult take, so inexperienced 14-year-olds reading this, please bear with me: we all have some level of responsibility for what happens to us in life (on a small scale, not meaning war or hurricanes). Are you at fault if someone does something horrible to you in a park late at night? No, obviously not. However, what led us to be in that park that night? Did we surround ourselves with bad friends who wouldn't offer us a ride home? Did our previous experiences make us naïve that this particular park was safe? Caiti needs to take some accountability here. As I said, George is not a mind reader. You MUST advocate for yourself in life because, clearly from this situation, you cannot rely on strangers to know what you are feeling (nor your 'friends' to stick up for you). The only person you have is yourself. Caiti had many opportunities to leave or to ask George to stop, and she didn't because, as she said, she essentially 'fauned'. This is a valid reaction to trauma, but I find it very tricky to then say George should have seen through this. He didn't know her. They'd only just met. If her own friends couldn't see it right in front of them, how can you hold George to this standard?
To conclude, while I have been quite harsh on Caiti, I do believe she feels traumatised by what happened. But frankly, this is a simple misunderstanding that got blown way out of proportion (purposefully, I can only speculate). Before anyone comes for me, I am a survivor of repeated SA and CSA. Please don't invalidate this.
George, this has obviously been a big wake-up call. Yes, you as a man do have inherent power over women (whether you want to or not) because of the way society is. Additionally, because you are a big creator, this will influence how intimidating you are to others. You were clearly very ignorant before this and I sincerely hope it has allowed you to reflect on your own behaviour moving forward. However, you are being far more apologetic and 'understanding' than you need to be and it clearly shows your good character and intentions. I wouldn't blame you if you persued legal action, to be honest, given how over-exaggerated Caiti's accusations and statements have been. I hope you can move on from this.
Edit: On re-watching Caiti's statement, something she said concerned me. She said she was asexual (at the time of the alleged assault) "due to past bad experiences" but that George was her first sexual experience. I know victims do not often count assaults as a sexual experience, but she counted George. So...which is it? Or did she forget that she had even said these two very inconsistent statements?
TLDR; everyone involved needs to get therapy instead of bringing their every trauma to social media for validation from strangers.

I agree with almost everything! The only thing i do disagree with however is what you say about verbal consent, I think if you are on a first time basis with that individual, as you never been intimate before, I do thonk you should be asking each other "is this okay?" "Can I do ____?" Etc, I think establishing some level of consent is important, it also helps allow the other person to say no (gives them an opportunity if they would otherwise feel too nervous or scared to) also you 100% ask before kissing someone or any touching of eachothers ge3ntalia or s3x if its the first time and you haven't created a basis of predetermined consent at the very least, although I'm not talking about just touching someone on the side, it's still helpful if they want to ask if it's okay anyway because it can clear up things as well, you know?
Im also a fellow multiple times survivour, I wish I was asked if certain things were okay (and if the times they were asked, that my no was respected, but that's unrelated)
I think at the very least, have a discussion about these things if you're gonna be touching etc, to create a basis "is this okay?" Is better than nothing
Idk, we are all different, I'm someone who requires verbal consent and it shouldn't be that dofficult to be adults and communicate consent before or during things (in the sense of asking for it) not talking about if something has happened and you're too scared to say anything, but I have also been there (people think that not saying mo = yes, which freaks me out.)

    • @shouldntve
      @shouldntve 2 месяца назад +85

@@alexb7092 I think I agree with you. To clarify, I do think verbal consent should always be asked before anything genital/underwear-covering should occur, especially with new partners, and unless you and a long-established partner have agreed on an 'open touch' policy.
Additionally, if it's what you are comfortable with, then verbal consent should be before every tiny interaction too!
My problem here is that, as George said, he saw touching Caiti's waist as "tame" and she, being a virgin, did not. George did not know she was a virgin. He did not know she thought this was a big deal. This is, in essence, the entire root of the miscommunication.
So I believe that the fault is on BOTH of them for not communicating, and I can't, in good conscience, call what happened 'an assault'. It would feel like a disservice and a bit of a slap in the face, really. It was a miscommunication. I know I sound harsh against Caiti, but not only has the way she has handled this felt so intentionally phrased to sound as predatory as possible rather than just an accurate reflection of her experience, but all these vague suggestions to other horrible things people have done 'behind the scenes', has made me doubtful as to her true intentions.
I am always happy for evidence to point me otherwise, however. I just think a lot of younger people on the internet lack critical thinking skills and are scared to be accused of "not supporting the victim 100%!!" so they dogpile with no rhyme or reason, and then are too scared to retract their earlier hatred when proven wrong, so they double-down. Case in point, the Dream accusations.

This is clearly a case of a young woman not having much experience getting irresponsibly drunk and being in over her head. This isn't to say her feeling are not valid. They are. But this situation should have never left dms. I hope she gets therapy and you remember from now on to be more cautious who you hang out with and to check ages even if you don't think that's important and to ask for consent as you don't know what others are comfortable with. It's clear this was not SA but just a over step of boundaries and a good example of the reasons everyone needs a designated sober friend when alcohol is involved. Thank you for addressing this George.

I honestly think Caiti needs to take some responsibility in this situation. Underage drinking, not communicating, and being mutually intimate with somebody at the time, only to go back on it later. Not to mention that misrepresenting something as SA when it clearly isn’t is incredibly harmful. George is not a mind reader. I don’t understand how he could physically have known she was uncomfortable when she gave absolutely no signals. Something as small as touching her waist while cuddling does not warrant a verbal ask. Anyone with any sexual experience would know that. I think the issue is that Caiti did not communicate her boundaries. But well done George for taking responsibility in a much more mature way than most people in this situation would do.

    • @Junoisverysleepy
      @Junoisverysleepy 2 месяца назад

I mean when the allegation came out it was in the aftermath of one of the biggest creators in the MCYT space successfully being outed as a serial abuser. I don’t want to say we were “feeling good” but there was at least this feeling of “this is great! Glad the girlies are taking back their power” and it kinda United this fractured community in support of Shelby and set a precedent for other victims to be able to come forward.
Then her video came out, it was very emotional and was framed in such a way that there was absolutely no question that whoever her “assaulter” was they were absolutely vile. The emphasis on the age difference (and that he knew), luring her and her friends to their hotel room, purposely getting them drunk, the vagueness of the “assault” it was really sickening to hear. I’m not surprised people have taken her side, the way she described the events sounds absolutely horrific and textbook in terms of “scummy celebrity taking advantage of a younger girl in the industry”. I still don’t know quite what to think since the opposing views on the situation are so extreme. Her side “I was sexually assaulted and will be traumatized for life”
His “I had no idea and am so sorry I made you feel that way, but I truly didn’t know you felt that way”
None of us KNOW what really happened and we don’t really know these creators. If we go off the actions of other trusted creators and former friends, he’s a scumbag, but because of these creator’s track record with people having it out for them with false accusations and preying on their downfall it’s hard to know if it’s coming from a genuine place or just to avoid backlash/ air personal grievances. George, my guy, you are kind, TOO kind. If I were you and I had experienced what you had to go through these past few weeks I would've had no sympathy whatsover towards any people who would try to ruin my career and reputation. It was an issue of communication, from BOTH you and Caiti, it's unfair how people (and even yourself) put all the blame on you. Non verbal and verbal consent are an important factor, especially in an environment where people are drinking. Non verbal communication is a part of consent too. The problem was that there was a misunderstanding between you two, you could have asked for permission, but Caiti could also have expressed verbally what she was feeling at that time. It's good that you're trying to be more cautious in the future, but please, don't put all the blame on yourself. You two should have communicated better with each other in order to avoid any kind of misunderstanding. She shouldn’t have brought this to the public, exaggerating things to make you look like a bad person. You are not an abuser, you are not a r4pist, this was just blown out of proportion. People from Twitter are emotionally driven, that's a toxic platform. Your emotions and intentions are valid too, remember that, focus on the positive comments and the overall perspective from other platforms aside from Twitter, you'll find how different people views are regarding this situation. I believe you man, and I hope things go well for you from now on :)

Firstly using terms like “freshly 18” or calling you “the older guy”, talking about how she felt “lucky” that a verified account talked to her and let’s not forget how she “complied” to drinking. Is awful that you feed this narrative. 18 years old is NOT a child. She was trying to paint a picture of you being a predator that uses your power to take advantage of drunk teenagers. Those factors can absolutely play a part on SA but in this case NOT. The focus should have been the alleged SA, yet she chose to paint you in the worst light possible. I think there should be justice for victims of SA, but also I think there should be consequences for people that make false accusations.

This made a lot of people question things and many have said George is not a bad person and will change and that Caiti has valid feelings but that she should have handled this offline . I recommend everyone watch her stream called “Final thoughts” and make your choice from there . But from what everyone is now saying is that this was a big mistake from both sides and that this should have been talked about privately to one another .
