Great to have you back. But still, you were not arrested. Just because you had to go to the station with them, doesn't mean you were arrested. You just got charged. Had you been arrested, you would not have left the police station. Instead, you would be taken to a magistrate the next day or two who would decide, whether you are to be held in custody or not, and you would not have been able to return to the US in the first place.

When you want to succeed in Germany as an expat, you need the following:
    1. Good German language skills *before* you come to Germany, at least on B2, better on C1 level.
    2. Enough money to live for up to 6 months without any income. Today, that would be around 15 k USD, better 20 k.
    3. Either a completed Bachelor, better a Master, or a finished and certified vocational training which will be recognized by German authorities, or at least three, better five, years uninterrupted experience in one trade (not in two or more trades) plus good letters of recommendation from your former employer(s).
    4. If you can manage to find a job in Germany which pays at least 2 k € per month *before* you leave your home country, you can omit requirements 2 and 3, when you are of the risk taking type. If you loose this job within the first few months, what is easily possible, you will be back on start and should have requirements 2 and 3 available to avoid struggling for several years (unless you are quite lucky).
    5. Make sure that your drivers licence will be accepted for a permanent stay in Germany *before* you come to Germany, when a car is important to your happiness or job plans.
If you don't have any of this, especially number 1 and 3 of the list, you will inevitably struggle for at least 2 two 3 years and be prone to eventually going back to your home country, unless you are a pretty girl and confident that you will acquire a resourceful, nice and helpful partner easily. For attractive men that option will be of help as well, but it is not that easily available or as effective for some reason.
Lastly, if you have no or very little German language skills, no significant quality training or job experience and no money, you better don't try to come to Germany for good right now. You will be on the bottom of the food chain and have a hard time to stay afloat without falling back to crime. Also, being successful as an entrepreneur with some kind of small business is much more difficult in Germany (and in most other European countries) than it is in Asia, Africa or the Americas. Germany is a fantastic country with many benefits, but it is neither Paradise on Earth nor Cockaigne.

@It`s okay. I wouldn't go so far to say it does not make sense. It's just quite risky, and you definitely should have a plan B you can fall back to, if the move to Germany does not work out as intended.

That’s nonsense. I think he should just move to Hamburg or Berlin. There are so many jobs in English at most start-ups and companies here. Students are taking their classes in English only. I don’t think he will have any issues. The pandemic was rough everywhere.

    • @Dahrenhorst
      @Dahrenhorst Год назад

@@pb6839 Some may in fact find a job or a place to study without any German language skills. But ask any expat in Germany (or watch some of their RUclips channels), that is not easy, and if you find such, you can call yourself very lucky. Of course, those people hardly will become part of the German society, they will more or less solely remain part of their expat community and the few Germans, who are active within it. If that's it what you are looking for, go for it. Just do yourself a favor and look for such an English speaking job _before_ you come to Germany. Good luck!

That little is such a cute gift, what a smile just amazing.
A little break from Germany is not so bad to recover a little bit and get the needful energy back.
If you like to come back to Germany, go to Hamburg or Berlin the more international cities, a lot more opportunities for a good work life balance.

Majority of his assignments were in the Asia/South Pacific area. That's why I'm relocating to that said area.🙂
I traveled a lot during my youth. I went to High School in Spain and visited/lived in a couple other European Countries (Deutschland not included). Exposure in my youth towards other places/cultures was the best. As I have so many friends that are complacent and the thought of leaving the US is scary to them. They NEVER had travel exposure during their youth. So congrats on your plans with your Family.

I didn't grow up with much of a connection to my cousins on either side of the family, we only saw the German part of the family once or twice a year, and the Americans like once every three years. I don't think learning Spanish will help you much with German as both derived from a different origin. Spanish for example is part of the italic/roman-language family, like Italian or in some parts French. German has its own family with languages like Dutch and Danish, but in the end it might help you with improving your "learning-technics".

Germany can be a touch place!
You should definitely move to a bigger city, for me even nuremberg was too small as a creator and people have different perspectives. what I can tell you after my 2 years travel within and around germany without home, you have to stick to your idea, and motivate people. Germans need others they do not life like people in the us, who have storys and a dream. in germany people often just dreaming to get their home bevor they are old and that's it. And if you want to do more people even try to hold you back,...
