Just ordered mine Edit: just got them today, I absolutely love these, the base is punchy and full without drowning out the mids and highs, and the base boost adapter gives a bit more if that's what your looking for.
No matter how good the red sounds, there remains one elephant in the room for me and that is the nozzle size. I know it's not the largest, but if I were to replace my aria's at some point, I probably would want something with a smaller nozzle. As right now the best fit I have is on small foam tips but even there it's really on the large side for my left ear.
Still kind of conflict of interest. Each of the collabs is from different manufacturers, so saying f-ck you to one and praising another would be bad business. Just watch other reviewers. It's better to have wide range of opinions anyway
Each of them occupies a different price point and has a different tuning and different drivers. It makes little sense to compare them really. A $50 crossed over double dynamic driver IEM tuned to Harman with slightly more bass and more midrange is just too different from a $100 planar magnetic driver IEM tuned to IEF neutral (if I don't confuse things).
@@p_serdiuk I disagree. All of them, no matter the price, are going in human ears and need to sound their best for that one function. You sound like an IEM marketing executive. Without the hype a red Ferrari isn't any better than a blue one.
I didn't know you and I saw the review on audio science review, I bought them straight away! I can't wait to ear them. Thank you for all you do for our ears. Love you man.
I’m gonna take your advice and see you as the measurements guy, and not as a reviewer, since you seem to tune everything for everybody. It’s really awesome that you were able to get your child finished finally. I hope it works out for you.
Crin, I finally got the Red. BTW I also have the Zero. After listening to both IEMs, I agreed with you. The Red provided better listening experience (depending on music preference). 👍 The Zero is more V-shaped compared to the Red. While looking at both IEMs, I thought the RED should've been the Zero (Blue), and the Zero should've been the Red. :)
I was about to buy a second pair of the original zero, for reasons that are unimportant, but it is currently my favourite IEM that I’ve heard including ones costing more than 3 times the price. It’s perfect. But now I am going to try this instead and see if you can improve upon perfection my dude. Buying it!
I can't imagine having extremely small earcanals like that. I already have to use the smallest eartips you can get but i can still use the B2D or TE:Z just fine o_o
One main issue I have with the zero, hexa and now the zero red is that the cable does not have a mic. It would be a blind buy for me if it had a mic, but without one, I have to invest in another cable, which I'd rather not cause broke student.
I still prefer the 2020 version because of the mids being more in your face and powerful, and when using iems with btr5 only the Kinera Idun and Moondrop Aria had too weak bass to "survive" being flattened out. The JQ 4U Pro sound great with Crinacle's flat bass because the drivers and whatnot provide so much natural and authoritative low-end that it can be dialed back and still keep the toes tapping and basslines singing. With that said, it seems to be the case that however much bass quantity/quality you start with, that's how good it will still sound/feel at flat levels (of course at that point it's no longer so strong anymore that it interferes with the vocals and lead instruments). Sometimes, however, you get iems or earbuds that aren't very loud in volume or don't have a powerful enough bass to cooperate with Crinacle's 2020 target. In such instances I either give the 2023 target a try, which I usually end up not liking, or I add the relatively similar amount of a bass boost that's seen on the 2023 target and apply it to the 2020 (I just type 2.5 in the bass boost feature on Crin's graphs and it makes those bass-shy products usually sound better). If I try the same method with something like the 4U Pro, it then sounds too bassy and I have to bring it back down to flat. I guess you can say I'm allowing the dynamics and speed, tonal/timbre quality and resolution speak for itself, because I've just discovered today that even when cranking up the buffer size on Wavelet to the maximum, the bass mids and treble still sound beautifully balanced on the 4U Pro when auto EQ'd to the 2020 target. Thought I'd share my process with you as a metal head-- but I guess since I like so many variations of metal and other expressive and musically complex genres- Harman target stuff just doesn't impress or please me anymore- not enough mids. Rtings target isn't so bad-- but sometimes those treble notes do get kind of clashy and out of control, though with great detail retrieval and atmosphere if the IEMs in question have the technical wizardry or drivers to make the most of what I think Harman does well. Most of the time- Rudolph Schenker's rhythm guitar work lacks a full-bodied thickness and crunch to really accent his tonal flavor, and it simply sounds so much more badass when I can hear any rhythm guitarist laying it down without being outperformed by the bassist- as a bassist, I "know" when it's too much and I can't ignore it when it is, hence my admiration for flat bass. Alongside how I like my guitars to sound, you gotta have that "pow" from snare hits and that "thud" from the kick drum on point. I can appreciate Harman when it plays around with the cymbals and high-hats for a more immersive atmosphere, but all that extra spice can feel awkward next to a less accentuated snare section. Not all Harman-esque targets cut down on the lower mids and/or upper mids, but when they do I can't ignore it- then it's that much harder to EQ better mids because more often that not the tuning you start with it the sound signature that remains- so recessed mids will still sound recessed, at least compared to an IEM or headset that has more by default. Of course tone and timbre matter with all those things as well, which is why I prefer a neutral-natural sound. Neutral tuning with natural timbre. It's a win win...when done correctly. The 4U Pro were very close, but the lower treble is too smooth and being driven by a BA can sound awkward at times, even when EQ'd to the max. I had hoped they'd be the IEMs I never have to EQ at all, but I went against my better judgment with that less than neutral amount of emphasis from 2.5Khz to 5Khz. With the dips in that region, metal music of all sorts- whether it's Stryper, Metallica, Living Colour, Dokken, Scorpions, Testament, or Faith No More- it sounds like oatmeal...all squishy, mushy, and lifeless. It's as if someone took the entire lead instruments section from any metal band and tossed into a pile of wet mud. Does it sound better with maximum EQ? Yes, but when you consider that this is supposed to be an earphone for playing with a band, basically a stage iem....yikes. EQing at that point becomes a luxury strictly tied to my Galaxy s10 and not much else 🤷♂️ at least I can faithfully pick the 4U Pro over the Kinera Idun for their sound but ehh... With all that said it would appear as though one IEM at an affordable price is in line with the kind of tuning I like and a tone/timbre quality to compliment the tuning. Won't say what it is as to not jinx myself but it's obviously not something from Truthear, not even the Hexa.
@@cen4247 yup, as long as a pair of iems has good technical performance then it's all about the tuning to make it play rock and metal well. I would say to go for the hexa by truthear instead... But you'd have to tune those hard to figure out how they perform. I'm going to get another pair of hexas and tune them to the Reds profile and see how they perform in a month or so
@@c0ldshock927 depends on the music you listen to and your preference! Hexa is more detailed in the mids and treble, something I like a lot for metal and rock music. It still has good bass and good details in bass and sub-bass. The zero is more detailed in the bass and sub-bass. From what I understand, the detail resolution is not something that can be changed much with EQ. For that reason I would go with hexa, sacrificing some bass and sub-bass detail for more detail on mids and treble. Something I think matters more for rock and metal genres.
Really liked my zeroes, but they didn't last very long. Never dropped them, too. The left driver just started buzzing randomly while I was listening to "heartbeat, heartbrake" from the persona 4 playlist. Even if there was a passing mention of making the drivers more durable on the reds I'd have dropped $55 easy.
9:49 Disadvantages of impedance adapters: - You can't use it with a TWS/neckband Bluetooth adapter, which is a sensible scenario for a sub-100$ all-rounder IEM. - It gets in the way, making the cable bulkier, and can be misplaced and lost. Unless they sell them separately, it will be bothersome to replace. That said, all of Crin's point are perfectly valid. At this price point, it makes sense to not add the price of over-engineering, and fewer failure points is better just based on how many QC issues budget IEMs already have. It's just a choice, and yeah, even if this renders Project Red not as "exciting", it makes sense.
I’m a super casual.. I was just shopping around for a good gaming headset (currently had astros for like 4 years) recently switched to pc and my sound was horrible in game. After reading around I saw amazing reviews raving about these IEMs when I saw the price I couldn’t believe it. PSA if you're interested in buying: I bought mine only 2 months ago. And the included narrow bore ear tips have sadly become unusably loose. They keep falling out or getting stuck in my ears. I bought the Zero Red from Sam Audio, a local retailer. Contacting them, they said they couldn't help me with it and to contact Truthear to ask if they offer replacements. Contacting Truthear, they said they couldn't help me because they don't sell or offer replacement ear tips, and to ask my local retailer if they offer replacements... I prefer the sound and fit of the Zero Red with the included narrow bore ear tips. But now I can't get replacements. Anywhere. To be clear, I really love these IEMs and have otherwise been happy with them. But 2 months of daily use resulting in loose ear tips has been rather disappointing. It's one thing when this happens to me with a USD $10 KZ IEM I bought after 6 months of daily use. But this is more than 4 times the price, with Crinacle as a big name attached to the project. Plus remember that the Zero Red comes with 3 different ear tip types (narrow bore, wide bore, foam) for different tuning profiles, yet has no replacements, even for sale... This seems like a major oversight. It's (almost) as bad as a headphone brand not offering any way to purchase replacement pads for their headphones. And before you mention it: not all third party tips will work. Not only does it change the sound (see above about different types of tips provided), the Zero Red also has a nozzle that is quite a bit thicker than average. It's not as simple as putting on SpinFits or any of the other dozens of ear tips I have. The thick nozzle might explain why the tips are getting loose. And no, the ear tips are not torn. And no, I did not excessively do tip rolling. Only maybe 5 or 6 swaps when I first got the earphones to see which ones fit and sounded best, which I don't feel is unreasonable. Crin, do you know if this is this an issue that affects other users too? And is there anything you can do to help make this right? From an otherwise happy viewer and customer.

Just ordered mine
Edit: just got them today, I absolutely love these, the base is punchy and full without drowning out the mids and highs, and the base boost adapter gives a bit more if that's what your looking for.
But are the nozzles still as thick as cannon barrels? It made the originals almost unusable.
No mention of nozzle dimension here. So I expect it's the same as zero
Order completed! Can't wait to get them! Thanks Crin. Your work is outstanding. Keep on doing what you do man.
I have received my order, and I am really amazed and in love yes I am in love with this IEM, this is my 1st IEM to own. Thank you Mr Crinacle. 🤘🏽😎
I understand why you can't compare it to other IEMs, but can you compare it to IEMs you have tuned in the past?
Yeah, Id like to see that. Which of HIS iems does he like the best.
Still kind of conflict of interest. Each of the collabs is from different manufacturers, so saying f-ck you to one and praising another would be bad business. Just watch other reviewers. It's better to have wide range of opinions anyway
Still a conflict with other manufacturers. He did compare it to the original Zero tho
Buying it!
is it better in your opinion?

Bought one and spent an afternoon playing with the earpieces and 10 ohm before I saw this. I'm new to IEMs but I'm being persuaded now. No regrets.
If it's the same nozzle size as the Truthear Zero, then it's DOA for me, unfortunately. Damn my miniature ear canals!
I can't imagine having extremely small earcanals like that.
I already have to use the smallest eartips you can get but i can still use the B2D or TE:Z just fine o_o
"but I don't want to use eq" this part cracked me up. Just cause of this, ill get the red. Even tho I have the original zero
One main issue I have with the zero, hexa and now the zero red is that the cable does not have a mic.
It would be a blind buy for me if it had a mic, but without one, I have to invest in another cable, which I'd rather not cause broke student.
6:20 lol... Excited and cant wait for this.... I meant the ZERO RED not the impedance...
After trying Crin's curve for my regular zero's, DAMN, it is SUCH a good curve for rock and metal!
Will deffo be getting the Reds
Hearing this is making me so tempted to buy them right away! The stuff I've had so far have not been very great for rock and metal
@@cen4247 yup, as long as a pair of iems has good technical performance then it's all about the tuning to make it play rock and metal well. I would say to go for the hexa by truthear instead... But you'd have to tune those hard to figure out how they perform.
I'm going to get another pair of hexas and tune them to the Reds profile and see how they perform in a month or so
@@greatestali3So you'd recommend the hexa over the regular zero?
Been looking to replace my Arias
Warranty
9:49 Disadvantages of impedance adapters:
- You can't use it with a TWS/neckband Bluetooth adapter, which is a sensible scenario for a sub-100$ all-rounder IEM.
I’m not one who really minds spending up to get guaranteed results so I was kind of iffy.. but after watching this video and continued research I must say not only do I feel confident in my purchase from a performance standpoint.. I’m glad to know that I’m supporting an individual/company with integrity. Overall happy customer and I’m sure I’ll be buying plenty in the future.
Shame the shell isnt more ergonomic and just the same as the zero, but probably still great if you can make it fit
Agreed. The zero sounds great but the shell is just so un-ergonomic compared to other IEMs it's just so annoying to wear

You should try adding a tweeter BA to the Red, just to handle above 9khz. That would probably be a b2/b3 killer
Yea, call it Project Green or something.

@@kryo2923 That's the plan, lol. Gotta catch 'em all 😆
That's clever, a cutoff that high keeps BA harmonic distorsion out or the audible range, while the BA tech helps make the treble more consistent.
Thanks for the simplified explanation @07:45
I was really curious how that works!

Got mine today. For the price, I give them 11 out of 10. I mostly listen to classical, predominantly renaissance choral and for this they are superb. I use a Dragonfly Black 1.5 DAC and mostly FLAC files.
Got my pair. And yes, I'm testing it with this video just because I can. Respect, Crin! Don't die...
