Nurul Soimah Well, katniss gets up everyday and tries to live her best life with peeta and her children. It is hard for her to do this because of the years of bad memories trying to overwhelm her and break her down, but everyday she plays this tedious game trying to forget all these bad things and live her best life. She says there are much worse games to play because there are: The Hunger Games.

So? Your point is what? Gale and Peeta are different people. Gale and Katniss may have been able to survive the 74th Games together but in the end it would've been them against each other as neither one could pull off the 'star crossed lovers' schtick that Peeta pulled.

I wake screaming from nightmares of mutts and lost children. But his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips. On the night I feel that thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know this would have happened anyway. That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that.

"I feel that thing again. The thing I only felt once before. In the cave last year, when I was trying to get Haymitch to send us food. I kissed Peeta about a thousand times during those Games and after. But there was only one kiss that made me feel something stir deep inside. Only one that made me want more. The sensation inside me grows warmer and spreads
out from my chest, down through my body, out along my arms and legs, to the tips of my being. Instead of satisfying me, the kisses have the opposite effect, of making my need greater. I thought I was something of an expert on hunger, but this is an entirely new kind."

What I love most about the Epilogue is that in the book catching fire. After the big kiss on the beach katniss goes to sleep and has a dream of peeta in this exact meadow of sorts. In the dream he is happy and free with his child. Which is the future katniss wanted for him all along hence why she was trying to keep him alive. However, what I love about suzanne collins is she used that dream to be a foreshadowing moment for katniss as well. She said peeta and his child can be free, but she was seeing that from her own perspective. Not peeta’s. So in a way that dream she was having was a vision to the future she truly wanted to have. Except she didn’t want to really admit it to herself because she thought she was going to die. Beautiful this series is. Just beautiful

Peeta is a perfect literary example of how a peace-loving man is not a coward, as many may see them to be, but it requires a different, more quiet kind of strength to support those they know who have lost, even after all they have been through themselves. The gesture of planting the Primrose outside the house always brings me to tears.

This. Absolutely. One of my favorite moments is when Peeta holds the female morphling while she’s dying and gives her the calmest death he can. He’s so genuinely compassionate and an exceptional person in every way. Haymitch, Katniss, and Finnick all knew he was too good for this world, lol.

"Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity can not survive."
"Compassion is the radicalism of our time."
Quotes by Dalai Llama. I even have to wonder if author Suzanne Collins assimilated many of their mantras and philosophies into Peeta as a character because they fit so naturally into who he is and how it helps Katniss herself transition as her story progresses.

What I love about this scene is Peeta’s glance and freeze on Katniss until their child jumps on him. He can sense her, and makes sure she’s still there and still ok. Their son’s jump is the only thing that unfreezes him from her, because just like in the beginning, their love is what keeps him going. First her, now also their children. To the person who said "Katniss never loved Peeta." I think you should take a closer examination of this quote from another novel called Captain Corelli's Mandolin and replay the journey Katniss and Peeta make to get to this conclusion.
"Love is like a volcano. It erupts and then subsides. When it subsides to have to make a decision. You have to decide if your roots are entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. For that is what love is. It is not breathless. It is not excitement. It is not the promulgation of eternal passion. That is just 'being in love' which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what's left over after 'being in love' has burned away."

After all these years I still believe that the Hunger Games realistically portrays PTSD and the emotional aspect of finding peace. The nightmares, the screams, the feeling of almost being completely numb and knowing you won't receive justice. It perfectly portrays the sheer horror in the eyes of Katniss and Peeta. Its the same look I've seen a hundred times before as a medic in the Gaza Strip and Mosul in 2014 and 2017. That look of pure despair when people lose family members but also the look of pure hope after reuniting with their loved ones, after we pulled them out of the rubble. The grey area where you see good people become bad people after their home is bombed by foreign countries. To either retaliate or find peace. This series bring that aspect forward really well. I met multiple women like Katniss and Prim in my life even men like Peeta and some of them died. I was invited to eat with their families. I've received gifts from their families and even flowers from children. Its hard to find out that you sometimes shared a meal with people that died shortly after. The pain becomes so agonizing that every memory, every image and even smell causes you too break down, to the point it feels almost impossible to eat, drink and even stand up. I like that in the ending of Mockingjay, we see them gardening, sitting in a field and listening to the rain. I do that as well in order to supress my memories. As dystopian as their society might seem, its not far off from the truth. After a while you realize that our politicians (Snow and Coin in their world) use Hollywood, the mass media and even games as a means to justify the chaos they have created over there. That they use it to invade countries, assasinate leaders, steal natural resources and not give back profits to locals, even classify documents of airstrike reports and vilify refugees. In most ficitional movies, there is also an element of truth. That's why I like the Hunger Games. For me its closer to the reality I've witnessed than it is to fiction. They did a great job in portraying those emotions and like you said "the cost of this" sometimes you have to experience an enormous amount of bad moments in order to know what its really like to experience the feeling of peace and safety.

The end credits song gets me every time because it’s perfect for the scene and to wrap up the trilogy. It’s prim’s song, it’s rue’s song, and it represents this sense of peace and happiness that they’ve all been looking for throughout the series. In the last scene they’re finally safe in a warm meadow just like the theme of the song says. Also the musical arrangement of it in the credits really captures the emotion of the song, the moment of the scene, and the gravity of the whole series finishing. I cried the first time I saw it in theaters lol

We were glad his adventure was over, but we still felt his pain.

To anyone that said Katniss never really loved Peeta....
Other than her sister, he's the only person she ever risked her life for. Not Gale, or her mother or anyone else really. There were two people that she truly loved in her life.
And for anyone who says that Gale would have been a much better partner....
Sometimes... In fact most of the time the most obvious partner is actually the worst.
In life we need someone who compliments our strengths but also our weaknesses and that was never Gale for her. I love the way the series ended. Because for me it actually ended with a ring of truth. Love will find you where you least expect it. And despite whatever expectations you might have ever had in your life... Love can bring out something different. Not because you feel forced into it but because what love brings to your life gives you a sense of hope that you never imagined.
The movie didn't quite bring it across how much Katniss was scared and hesitant to have children. But because she loved the man she had committed to and because she trusted the love between them she made a conscientious decision to trust that love and to have a child and then another.
No I am not saying this is universal truth I am saying simply that love has a way of changing the way that we look at the world.
The initial feelings of love are not always a choice but the continuation of it is very much so.
And so much as I can figure, this love story is probably the most realistic amongst the mid-2000s young adult genre that existed.
It wasn't immediate on both sides and it wasn't always obvious to either of them but it was there. Because when push came to shove, they were always there for each other. That is love.

There really wasn’t a rebuilding of 12. Some people didn’t come back and when you only have around 300 survivors that means very few people did. In a way they punished Katniss by sending her to live out in the wilds, but that is what she wanted. She didn’t want crowds or people. Just her and those she loves. Her mother doesn’t even go back to 12.

Peeta is such a beautiful character. He's strong and centered like the hero should be, yet sensitive in all the right ways. That he would think to plant primrose where Katniss could see it - a spark of beauty to remind her of everything that was good about her sister - is a beautiful glimpse at the tenderness wrapping his inner core and making him the strong keep that Katniss needs to find her own inner peace.

    • @Silver54ful
      @Silver54ful 3 года назад +19

Peeta is such a rarity in this day and age when it comes to fiction. He truly is a knight in shinning armor. Yet it's not because he saves the day in that traditional sense of rescuing a damsel in distress from a physical perilous situation. (If anything we saw more the opposite scanario play out in this series) What I love about him is that he is emotionally available and not ashamed of it. He unbashfully listens and is caring. And how it is the unfurling and evolution of Katniss growing to trust and appreciate the love he has so selflessy given. Despite how modern fiction is trying to steer away from toxic masculinity. There still is an enormous stigma going on about branding a leading man who shows empathy towards an independent & emotionally reserved woman as weak. There's still this old fashioned concept that a man must conquer the woman as to be deemed worthy. However with this story, the author and the screenwriters flat out reject this. You don't conquer anyone by making them your indentured servant and declare that love. Love occurs only with respect. Too many pieces of romance leave this out and it's why I have long refused to call them love stories. I never see nor feel the love because such a cruciual element is missing. Most just come across as a one night stand kind of scanario that has been stretched out over a long period. And I find it hollow. I don't have any emotional investment. I think at best most only get to the point of being "in love with the idea of the person" not the actual person. I can say with conviction The Hunger Games series is a love story! I was caught up with every single moment as this story progresses from teammates to friends and finally to life long loving partners. And Peeta is every bit a worthy leading man to leading lady Katniss. :)

She refused to allow herself to love Peeta because their couple was a manipulation of the Capitol. She didn't want to be a tool to the Capitol (that's book 1). She starts to have feelings for Peeta in the second book, when they bond during the Victory tour, that's why she chooses to have him survive in the Arena and demands that Haymitch saves him. But she refuses to allow herself to love him openly because she thinks she will die: but her hopes and dreams for Peeta are the ones of someone who is in love. Literally, he lives in her mind rent free from Catching Fire, going forward. In Mockingjay, you have Gale trying to stick the landing, but even he knows he doesn't stand a chance anymore and he says so during their hunting trip outside of D13.

When Katniss said "real" it wasn't just her answering that yes Peeta's memories of her loving him is real, but she was also saying that yes her love is real & it isn't a fake relationship that they're in at all, their relationship is REAL no pretending. Whether the Gales be celebrities and current toxic relationships people are afraid to get out of because of uncertainty, but Peetas are loyal to you and remain wishing your love could be real, but accepts otherwise. Because loving someone is when your wants come after the needs of who you love.

Respectful, compassionate, encouraging. trustworthy, and they value their partner's independence. To not appreciate all of these qualities (Peeta) in favor of physical appearence and status (Gale) to me leads to only one conclusion if the latter was chosen. Those who picked the latter still confuse infatuation for love. Needless to say they could not be on further ends of the spectrum.

We used to call it "eyes that speak a thousand words". It was a common sight in war. As a medic it was most recognizable with children after we managed to reunite family members, that we pulled out of the rubble. You saw their eyes change from complete panic to a state of calmness. Their parents invite you to come and eat with them and some of these children gave gifts like flowers or chocolate. Its the most beautiful kind of eyes because its not complete calmness but its also not chaotic, more a look of hope and appreciation. That was not always the case and that's why I like the Hunger Games. Sometimes you also saw that some eyes of people were almost filled with anger and despair, like that of Katniss in some scenes. That look which indicated that they are in the grey area where you see good people become bad people after their home is bombed by foreign countries. That they need to choose between retaliation or peace. That was one of the hardest parts of the job. Its hard to tell someone who just lost 5 family members, that they should try to find peace instead of vengeance but it is possible with mental help from the local community. This movie portrayed it the best. Some were afraid to ask for help but its not their body that betrayed them, it was always the eyes. Afterwards these eyes become more calm especially if they are reunited with loved ones. They did a great job when it comes to the emotional expressions expressed due too PTSD. The nightmares, the screams, the faces you see of children and the feeling of almost being completely numb after you witness the death of locals and other people you knew for a short period of time. Her eyes are calm when she is with Peeta and that's logical. Its like me meeting up with fellow medics from that period of time. After these kind of events, you can't run away from it because it always haunts you. You simply have to live with it but it always helps to have a supportive person beside you, that can understand what happened. You can see it in people's eyes when they need to live with it. You can see some type of silence in their eyes but also a sense of calmness. The silence however, is much louder than the explosions and screams we heard over there.

The door scene with them both look out is a symbolism to the first games when they were looking in the Capitol. They were looking at a world full of danger and greed. And now they are looking at a world full of rebirth and peace. And she finally realizes it’s safe to love peeta now.

Katniss represents the fire in humanity....the passion the rebel the fighter....it helps you survive and combat all sorts of brutality. But Peeta represents the most beautiful part of humanity...the compassion...the kindness...the humanity...it helps you live....what makes life worth living....no wonder Katniss needed Peeta to build life anew.
P.S. These are just beautiful scenes.....such favorites of mine...

seeing the rain, the same rain in which a boy offered a loaf of bread that shaped a whole story and touched our hearts. The same guy who saved a girl and helped her get everything they deserved.
Just beautiful, to think that that act of kindness already contained love.

this scene is so heartbreakingly beautiful, especially the part where they're sitting on the porch where they're looking out while it rains. the music, the lighting...it's just beautiful. it always makes me want to cry. everything about this whole epilogue. in the silent moment where katniss and peeta just exchange a glance and katniss smiles a bit, it feels like they finally won. even though they lost so, so much along the way, in the end they still had each other. i can see when katniss smiles a bit that its almost like a reassurance that "it's over now, we can rest".

Here's the thing with Susan Collins with other writers this ending may have found tacked on or like it was tacked on just to fulfill societal expectations of Happily Ever After but it absolutely isn't here. This feels like an absolutely excellent ending for Katniss as a character because while she does say she doesn't want kids it's because she doesn't want to bring them into the world she lives in. Katniss having kids shows that she's finally feeling stable and secure and that's why it works so well
