When Brutal smacked Del’s cell bars and snapped “Learn when to shut up,” I was thinking the exact same thing. As cruel and sadistic as Percy was, and as much as he deserved to be put in his place, it was really stupid of Del to laugh and mock him when he wet himself. Clearly he did not learn from having his finger broken how cruel and petty Percy could be. If he had just kept his cool and walked away, Percy may have done the same, the whole mouse-squashing incident and sabotaged execution may not have happened.
To be fair, Del doesn't really seem to be _all there,_ if you know what I mean. Even still, it clearly wasn't a good idea to antagonize and obviously violent prison guard who has an already proven hate boner for you. 😅
