This channel doesn't deserve 87000 subscribers it deserves A BILLION!. I have been following Mr Johnson ( you deserve that respect)for the last 6 years an his teachings radically changed my life because he bridges things that was missing for me to excel through my career an at that time the premature stages of my PHD!( which i completed with flying colours ;) .The wealth of practical information that Mr Johnson exhibits is worth ALOT more that $10.. it should be AT LEAST a $1000 in my opinion.
It shouldn't have taken me so long to say thank you for everything! :)

Brian, another great summary of the book. Isn't it amazingly refreshing to know that we all have the Gift?
In a sense, we all are the One. The one that we've been searching for. I've become keenly aware of this naive practice in others so that I can recognize it in myself.
I see it at the coffee shop that I frequent a lot. The Barista has made the coffee so many times for me that they are no longer present when they make me a fresh cup of Joe.
I've discovered that presence improves practice whether we are doing push ups or washing the dishes. The purposeful and deliberate practice that Anders speaks of has the thread of presence all through it.
    Thanks again. Keep pushing.

Thanks for another good video Brian!
People who improve the most are able to adapt their minds/environments to achieve their goals through practice - Adaptability - 2:05
Grit (Angel Duckworth's) matter more than talent (gift)
'Naïve' practice doesn't work: putting time doing something in an unstructured manner/un-methodically will not lead to improvements, nor achieving goals - 3:20
Purposeful Practice (PP) - 1. have a SPECIFIC goal, 2. Intensively Focus, 3. Immediate Feedback, 4. Exit your Comfort Zone - 4:16
Mental Representations - when sticking to PP our minds change/adapt creating mental models / 'optimal algorithms' to more efficiently let us do what we are pursuing- 7:00
    10K Hours Rule? - It doesn't work! Purposeful practice does - 8:40
Homo Exercens - Naturally, 'man' strives to get better - 10:44
It's essential to know/believe that you CAN get better and improve to an optimal level, or your PEAK. (Carol Dweck's Fixed vs Growth mindset)

Our ability never grow unless we put ourselves into discomfort zone. Since I knew the notion of deliberate practice, I've especially been conscious of desirable difficulties. For example. when I learn something new, I always try to retrieve without any clues and explain it to others by my own words. It's smoothies stressful, but the effort is always paid off.

Idea: that 10,000 isn't a rule, but a general trend, and is really relative to the field. Ericson says, "cognitive complexity of the field determines how long or short it takes for expertise, and that even at 10,000 hrs that doesn't mean you're the best in your field, but that you've developed the skills that give you the credentials to step on the world stage figuratively". It's still a decade after that to be at the peak, and that's where I want to be. I practice deliberately as often as I can stand it, and have for the past 5 years, and I'm still only good. I get impatient with the time it takes to truly be world class at a skill, but I watch this video to ground myself in reality. Things take time even in light of tremendous effort, and that can be the hardest thing to remember.

@@pinny492 Thank you, high IQ has it's upsides and downsides, meaning everyone suffers inadvertently due to natural dispositions in this case referencing IQ. I can learn many things swiftly which has a consequence in terms of certain arenas of performance, but I'm more like other people than not. Great work, really valuable video. But I don't like you using the term "reps" here because people already use this to abbreviate "repetitions," which makes more sense ("reps" looks like a plural countable noun whereas representations is a lot more abstract to pluralize). Instead I would find it less prone to misunderstanding and difficulty grasping if you focused on the "deep set" of representations, which you also mentioned.
