      Also you could encrypt it, with that you are good to go

    Data breaches on the cloud happen, and storing important stuff on data centers you have no control over is generally considered bad opsec

      Yeah. I would use something like proton drive. Its end to end encrypted so if a breach happens nobody can decrypt your data.

      @@techjunkybennl as long as you encrypt your data and only you have the key it, it shouldn’t be a problem. My original comment was just about keeping stuff in the cloud without any additional security measures

    I'm building a pc for my college, should i go for a 3060 12gb or a 4060 8gb? I would be doing video editing and photo editing and a bit of gaming too. They would be paired with a ryzen 5 5600 btw.

      I'd say 4060 , but try to get the 16gb version if you can. If you're gaming and video editing more VRAM can be better. 3060 is slowly getting old but if you cannot afford 16gb 4060 12gb will definitely help, with Only 8 gb you'll be shortened

      rtx 3060, the 12gb is crucial. the 4060 and 3060 usually trade blows anyway with the 4060 10% faster on average until vram comes into account and the 3060 beats the 4060 in gaming by a long shot and if ur doing editing and stuff like that the vram is even more important, its also cheaper

      I was about to reccomend an rx 7600 xt since it had 16gb of vram and was only 30€ more expensive(for me), but I've heard that they do not work well on video/photo editing. Is that true?

      If you're doing content creation, then the RTX 3060 is the better option since it has 12gb of VRAM.

    You never put your date up in the cloud!!
    Those companies have terms of service that allow them to scrape your data for their use in their LLMs and for whatever uses they want....
    Adobe was just the most recent one that got in trouble for that....

    I like having data on a separate partition. That makes it easy to reinstall windows/linux and not to loose anything. Also this allows me to mount this partition on both os‘es to have my data ready whether i am on windows or kn linux

      But the problem is Linux can access NTFS windows drive , but windows can't read or write EXT4 , you need an external app for it , and it's really annoying to mess around and work with it. .

      @@xninja2369 No. I have my files on a separate ntfs partition. Like i wrote in my comment. Ntfs windows install, ntfs files, ext4 linux. A drive with 3 partitions.

    Do NOT store important/sensitive data on a cloud service available to private users. I'm 99% sure google and microsoft (among others) both advice against storing important data in the cloud.

    You can also do off-site backups with a friend or family member preferably hours away, just set up a NAS and use a VPN to get into their network rather than exposing the data to the internet

    If you use cloud storage of any sort copying it locally is worthless redundancy. Cloud already has few copies of your file so local work copy and cloud backup is giving 99.9% chance of its recovery in case something happen. But trusting cloud storage is another question.

    Previous versions is a very underated feature. You could permanently delete have the stuff on your drive and still be able to bring it back with only your main storage with no extra backup. And on top of that it barely takes up any storage even though you're backing up everything on a drive that's 90% full on that same drive.

    Bruh 2 years of arhitecture school projects all of a sudden gone last week...i had to use recuva to get the data back that was literally hundreds of hrs gone out of the blue while i was sleeping...got all the important files back but i definitely need to do some more photography work to finish my portfolio

    I'm always using Internal SSD/HDD and External SSD/HDD as 2 Backups is enough for me than upload to Cloud as google Drives or dropbox, so it would be 2 Rules without upload any data to Cloud lol

    Tht's the thing I've been living by for years. If you have your final essay on your computer and only on your computer, then it's disposable. I have three or four backups stored in my house and I keep one external HDD in my brother's house for offsite backup. If you're a college student living in the dorm, send one of your HDDs with backups to your parents, creating an offsite backup.

    I've been backing up my data to google drive after i lost tremendous amount of data 😭 I only have a local and cloud backup of my important data. I do want to eventually set up a Nas or an offiste backup for added safety.

      that's why, never upload any data to google drives anymore after you've lost everything. but just using internal SSD/HDD or External SSD/HDD are best choices than google drives

    My most important files, games saves, are stored on DVDs in a safe, which even in the event of a fire or flood should be safe. I'm also thinking about making extra copies to leave at a friend's house.

    Can you talk about the Nvidia Tesla P4 because it seems like a great graphics card that has a lot of potentially as all it needs is a fan mod. It would have great fps per dollar and only consumes 75 watts while being half slot.

    If you have 1 that equals zero and get another 1 back up you technically ink have one copy there, therefore needing to repeat the process of getting another back up.

    After a flood got rid of my cousin’s entire childhood (physical photos & shit) mom copied my childhood + some other memories onto: iCloud, Google Drive, a DVD-R, a USB, an external HDD, I was asked to have a copy on my Gaming PC so my internal SSD too & it’s on her phone locally.
    She went overkill, heck yeah, but eh, doesn’t matter.

    My xfx swft Rx 6650 xt (Ryzen 3 4100) is obsessed with aiming to be at the lowest utilisation it will go to 70% if forced but will refuse to go above 60-70-80 fps. Also power consumption sticks to 40-50 unless forced above. 🤷
    Edit: oops had the switch on the GPU switched towards the 8 pin connecter, running with 90W so I hope it's fixed lol 😅 I don't know
