old men wtf time flies. started watching RD in my teens, just turned 41. One of those shows you can rewatch over and over.
I started watching it about 1-2 weeks ago. And now I'm watching the documentaries and interviews online. It's a great show. I'm 23, so it showed before I was even born and no one told me to watch it. I randomly played it on Netflix and now I've watched them all. Backwards is my favourite.
I grew up watching it in the 90s as a little kid. Would have seen seasons 1-7 at least 15 times. Just kept getting more and more out of it. When I was young my favourite episode was Gunmen of the Apocalypse but I've been through many since. I really liked Back in the Red because it was the first season I actually remember coming out but it's not even in my top 5 anymore. I've found myself connecting more with the early episodes lately, Confidence and Paranoia really grew on me. Seeing the young, chubby Craig Fergusson is definitely a novelty.
I can’t watch the new ones, the original 8 series were brilliant (okay it was tailing off a bit at 7-8) but the Dave series they are all in their 50s and it’s just not the same. Series 8 was broadcast when I was in high school I’m now 35, time fly’s. Omg Hatty flat out looks a pensioner here.
Yessir sometimes I just have it playing in the background. I also do that with Fawlty Towers, 3 Stooges and Blackadder :)
i remember in school a female nerd loved star trek and red dwarf and wore t-shirts with them, i used to slate her so bad......till i became a trekker and a dwarfer big time.......that's karma
I was introduced to the Red Dwarf posse back in the very early seasons. I used to suffer from depression really bad back then and watching these guys helped me get through some very hard times. Thanks guys for all the laughs, you have no idea how much it helped.
Glad to hear you got through depression, hope all is well now. Red Dwarf deserves more recognition than it gets.
THEY HAVE HE,S IN RED DWARF 13 THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!
I just love that when the theme song plays and the cast are dancing.....Robert dances just as Kryten would
I wasnt even a teenager when i started watching this in 1987, and have been a fan ever since. Great guys, met them in 2014.
Watched this since it first aired, still do. It’s one of the rare breed of sitcoms that has brilliant writing and chemistry and ideas, so it works.
Cant believe nobody asked would anybody like some toast!!!
@Aslan T Vorlon what about crumpets?
cmdfarsight what about tea cakes?
@@cmdfarsight
*"NO I WOULD NOT LIKE A CRUMPET!"*
it's better than a kick in the bread tray
oh so you're a waffle man eh!
I’ve been watching since the 90s and will continue to watch for as long as they continue to make new episodes. I enjoyed the 90min special, hopefully we get a 14th season as well though.
Remember watching the 1st episode the days when we only had 4 channels, and had to wait until the next episode the week after. The days we couldn't fast forward our lifes 🙄
Chris Barrie has an amazing range in his voice can almost do the entire cast I mean voices not intimate relations.
You don't mean lie on top of them and move up and down rapidly in that curious way humans find so agreeable?
He doesn't just do the cast he does the floor staff as well, you hear some of the floor staff on the behind the scenes DVDs and he impersonates them perfectly.
Chris Barrie looks like he's just come off of the Brittas empire set
What a fantastic show that was
The episode set in the future was gold.
I was about 12 when i started watching red dwarf, loved every second of of it since then. my lad started watching it when he was about 13 and he has been hooked ever since. You know good timeless comedy when it gets passed down the generations like a family heirloom.
Loved watching this, thank you.
This feels like classic red dwarf. Maybe series 5, the cast all talking and Hattie sitting their quietly with not much to say lol
It was the only bad thing about Kryten becoming a main character, season 1 and 2 had Holly be the character who explained technical stuff and do experiments but this role got subsumed Kryten. There were some good scenes were Kryten and Holly would play off eachother but for the most part Hattie didnt have much room to play the character.
@@MrRattlebones640 yeah sadly . They wrote her out because they said they couldn't do anything with the character, but then brought the character back the series later without her
I'd be miffed if I was her
I have special memories of watching red dwarf with my father and brother and we were all laughing together. It was one of the few occasions us kids enjoyed the same tv as my father; no longer with us but watching Red Dwarf brings back fond memories of those times.
I remember watching an episode in the 2nd season and shouting to my dad to come and watch it. Back then we only had 1 tv, (in the lounge). He said he'd watched an episode from the first season. We were hooked from the beginning. Latterly I bought every season on DVD, back when commentaries were novel and genuinely intetesting. I had never seen the first Kryten and at first I hated his performance but came to accept it eventually.
Forgot to mention that in my life I am constantly reminded of or quote 2 shows: Seinfeld and Red Dwarf. Only yesterday I was in the hospital and there was a 'tongue tied' group. My Spanish partner didn't know what that meant. I said to her for the 100th time "This reminds me of an episode of Red Dwarf...."
"Oh really, what a suprsise", she said.
A lovely memory, thank you for sharing that.
Apologies for the ramble! Just the first thoughts that come into my head. Back then I always thought my brother was a bit like Dave; a bit of a slob but well liked. Unfortunately I was more like Rimmer; lacking confidence, full of self doubt and a massive procrastinator. Probably why I identified with the characters and the show is more than just jokes to me. Rimmer dissapointing his father is probably a universal feeling most can identify with.
I work at STN airport and was helping the gate agent board a flight to Madrid. Basically there's only time to check the passport and the face, scan the card and onto the next passenger; 5 secs max. Only this time my brain read 'Danny John Jules'. Without thinking I said out loud
"Danny John Jules"?
"Yes" he replied back
"The Danny John Jules"?
"Yes"....
I get to see a few celebrities but you never have time to mentally prepare yourself. I had Cammy from Sky Sports going to Tenerife, David Cameron and his wife. I just about managed to take my first and probably last ever celebrity selfie! He said he was going to Madrid for work and was on his own. I managed to avoid gushing about how much I loved the show and the significance for me. Wohld have liked to but there wasnt time.
If I could only take 1 show to a desert island it would be this one.
Its nice to know this sitcom could bring family together that's not a story you hear much about this show since its usually nerds watching it by themselves.
How nice. A memory that will always make you feel happy.
"I've been watching three or 4 years- 'Get out' - I'm 29!- 'Get out'! Chris Barrie is the best!
I laughed heartily at that, the fan was caught a bit off guard I guess you would feel undeserving if the actual actor told you to get out hahahaha
I was 29 when this ideo was recorded and Ive been watching for 25 years! No excuses!
I thought it was Robert Lewellyn who said it.
I thought that was danny
What Robert said about not being able to do any of the other characters - I couldn't imagine anyone playing Kryten like he did. Sheer brilliance, and my favourite character by far.
Well he wasn't the only Kryten so yeh someone else could've done the role, bob ended up overshadowing the rest of the cast a bit with his over animated style of acting I often think the original guy would've been better but he wasn't available.
@@user-et6pj4db9sThat early Kryten was crap though lol
Thank you for uploading.
Chris Barrie's Kenneth Williams impression was great he sounded just like him. Classic...😂
Danny John jules... what a guy!
Talk to him on twitter, he's a white hating twat.
Wheres Cloister ??
Always really like red dwarf. Started watching it when I was 11years and now i am still watching it now, at the age of 33years old on Netflix. Great actors, great show.
Where's Craig??? 😂
I wish they'd bring back Hatty or Norman. I miss Holly. Some of the best jokes where with Holly.
strelokblyat I've seen it, 3 of the episodes were great but I mean I wish they'd bring him back full time.
They got rid of Holly for two main reasons,
1. Norman Lovett, weirdly, clashed with the producers.
2. Kryten took over the role of explaining things to the other characters, which Holly used to do. Plus Kryten could move around and get physically involved.
There is some talk about bringing him back, given the ovation Norman Lovett received from the studio audience during his cameo in Season XII, so we'll see.
Norman is great to watch onscreen but he has a reputation of being a bit of a pain in the arse backstage and flakey in terms of getting him to commit sadly.
Norman left for a genuine reason in series 3, they relocated the filming of RD from Manchester to London which was further from Norman's Scottish home and from what I understand they wouldn't pay him additional expenses to make the extra distance for filming so he said no, I don't blame him for that it was only in series 8 when he came back that he kicked up a fuss because he didn't feel they used Holly well and frankly alot of people would've agreed because fans like Series 8 least so that's when he fell out with Doug and didn't come back til that cameo on Series 12. Now yes he can whinge he's notorious for it but both times he refused to come back were actually justified. He is as passionate about being used well in the show as anyone else and you cant fault him that. He was responsible for having Holly seen in the first place Rob and Doug were just going to have a voice over. @@AlbaRecoil
I met Danny and he's so friendly he also gave me a signed collectable cat card
I love you guys especially smeg head rimmer in his audiobooks. I've read all the books and seen up to series 11 from my late teens to now and I must say I see myself in all the characters you did such a good job. Cheers for infinity
27:00 I counted three times with Duane Dibbley. Lister, Cat, and Kochinski disguising themselves as the Dibbley's, when the GELF's polymorph changed Rimmer and Cat into Ace and Duane, and of course, the first time we saw Dibbley in Back To Reality.
I was operating the wide shot camera 😍😍 was so good to watch and operate!
Good for you. Officially am jealous. Of that, and of having one of the best surnames in pop history.

First class job Melissa were you ready for Danny's impromptu table top announcement?
Melissa Hell yes!! Nice to see another woman doing camera 🎥
I remember watching the first episode of RD , and thought, "Hmmm , can't wait for the next"
I actually can’t believe the one time i miss MCM, this happens! 😂
the question is, did you make it to the Manchester 35th anniv
bring Hattie back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO! Norman is way better
Watched this show on old VHS tapes as a kid and my mum was so grateful. Was like an unpaid babysitter on rainy days
Tragic that Hattie didn't get a laugh for her "it's black" line over what Chris was saying
The Aussie Cumquat she dropped a “not too bready” comment also that totally went over everyones head 😫
You would have only really got that one if you had seen the episodes with Talkie the Toaster. That toaster used to drive me nuts, but so well done.
your basic space color.
Ok I need to re-watch RD! x
A line from the show I often use is: "I know it's technically the same point, but it was sooo important I thought I'd mention it twice."
I actually used that line in a best man speech.
I love how theyre dancing to the theme at the start and Chris pretends he's pulled a back muscle doing it lol I love this gang theyre good people. I have to admit I thought the show should finish really but I certainly have nothing against them continuing on if they want to. They've done so much for comedy and science fiction over such a long long time now.

I think the special answered your question, the special was amazing
9 o'clock BBC2 on Thursday's was little my escape from life during the late 80's and early 90's.
Love the Dwarf, Space core directives need to come back, just hilarious.
First video of this on YT.
Good man!
NDRonin1401 Thank you good sir. Feel free to spread the word :)
Glad to hear Lemons getting some cred. Best episode imo.
Best line of the saga: They're dead Dave.
Red Dwarf, both the book and show, helped me through a lotta dark times. Thanks for sharing this.
Aha. I was there for a small part of the panel. Sadly I hadn't seen a single episode of Red Dwarf at that time. I'm devastated to think that
These guys remember the stories and lines they had in the show and love the show, have been to fan things for different shows and it's obvious the actors did the show and never thought about it again.
I was at this comic con but didn’t realise the cast was there. I will always be disappointed that I didn’t get a single autograph for my father, especially Danny John-Jules as he is in 2 of my dad’s favourite shows. Red Dwarf and Death in Paradise
The question askers really do fit the stereotype of Sci-fi fan! 🤣
That one voice, you know which one
Bet you do to lol
Lemons is one of my favourites :D a really great episode
As great as Norman is, I miss Hattie Holly
Why? Norman is way better
@@MichaelM28 i just prefer her way of speaking, it's funnier to me
40:08 The look on Chris's face cracks me up
'why do you think Red Dwarf has lasting appeal'?
because it's the best TV show ever!!!
I LOVE the image this presents its so reminiscent of 'Mystery Science Theatre 3000' (does anyone remember that?) An audience in a theatre in silhouette watching a movie (or the cast of RD)!
Greetings from 2023, the shows 35th anniversary. the WHOLE cast were at Megacon Manchester and it was FAB. More new shows have been written
Context is: fish is hilarious because it's said in cat voice & character.
I’ve always had a crush on Hattie
i'me actually old enough to say I remember when it firs aired and I was a fan from the start.
It occurred to me that it would be funny to see the Red Dwarf crew dealing with Ace after several weeks and becoming absolutely sick of his schtick.
The only gang worth joining. A family
Ohhh... I wish I knew this was on... I would've gone ! :)
I wish they bring back Hattie Hayridge as Holly. She comes to most conventions and still has a great sense of humour. A lot better than grumpy Norman Lovett.
I was 7 years old when dwarf started but I didn't see the show until my early 20s so series 8 was still the last series at the time. Now I'm in my 40s and they're still going 20 years on from that. I think they should've wrapped it up really but it is undoubtedly a major feat to last 30 years.
Red dwarf taught me some of my favourite words.

"Doug doesn't like repeating himself". Series 12 was like a 'best of' series with plot points repeated from other shows. It was a fun pleasant series but nothing overly new.
Yeh I gave a wry smile to myself at that comment, Doug has been repeating himself for years on plots, I guess what he meant was he doesn't want to bring back characters for fan servicing reasons which is all Dwayne and Ace would be acting as which is fair enough but there's definitely been recycling of ideas going on. You don't get to series 12 of a show without something being regurgitated unfortunately. Its time to end the show really truth be known.
To be fair, 12 was the anniversary, so the callbacks were more justified
When I see Bobby like this I assume he's going to talk about electric cars.
As long as he doesn't get a 'double polaroid'
What the frig was that noise at the end?
I grew up with the boys from the dwarf 👐
Hatty is amazing, wish she owned it more in this interview
32:20 Chris Barrie's favourite line is the same as mine! the man is a genius... at playing a total smeg head :))
Would limes work as well as lemons?
It was interesting.
I am growing up watch red dwarf on early years Craig Charles is my favorite
Ive seen them at MCM London twice. Ive got pictures with all except Craig and Norman.
These guys are Red dwarf. The Yanks stole the idea(Like we always do) but it didnt last. I love the fact that the cast is still doing new episodes,Hope it never ends.
Somethings just can't be reproduced, it is the combination of the specific peoples personalities that makes it work. It not a McDonalds burger where you just repeat the same recipe. I knew they sold the licensing rights to America to recreate it but never wanted to see the American version because I knew it would be a let down after seeing the original.
What a guy
Oh joy, some mindless anti-Americanism from a European prick.
Where lister at?
Been a big fan since the early nineties.
I feel so sorry for Hattie. She's not in the later episodes or the first two series and doesn't get asked many questions.
Kryten seemed to take over the function of Holly and I wished she had been more prominent and in the show for longer.
Chris always seems as if he is in character, whereas the rest of the cast aren't
Great video :-) Though I can't hear much audience laughter when they make hilarious quips so maybe the mix is a little off? So great to see Hattie here, she's my favourite Holly. I hope this won't be taken the wrong way, but I just can't stop looking at her body! LOL
She looks like a pleasure gilf.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Boys from the dwarf !!!!!!
0:01 - 0:18 The new closing credits sequence.
Where's Craig Charles?
Ace Rimmer needs to come back!
Ah, me. So surprised
lol poor Chris at the end.
If, they ever do a movie about Prince Charles,Chris Barrie could play him well.
Where is Craig?
Space Corps super-chimps performing acts of indecency in zero gravity will lose all banana privileges.
What was funny about the word "fish" was the comedic rule of repetition.
"Hello. How can I help you?"
"Fish!"
"Enjoy your meal."

I always get the song stuck in my head and let just say back in high school... not many people wanted to sit near enough to me to hear me hum/click/tap/sing
i love kryten!
So what is it?
So what is it?
Only joking
Oh my god, people. We KNOW you're massive fans of the show, youre at a panel asking questions.
Yeh that kind of annoys me too, I don't like fans who start making it all about themselves, oh I waited in line for ages last time, mate who gives a shit whether you got to see them or not, just ask your question. People waste so much time talking nonsense or wasting question time on inanity, it really is cringe worthy.
Why does every single person feel they have to say, "First of all I'm a big fan..." yea, obviously. You're at a convention...
Ok fun sponge
Cos they are nerding out in the presence of Ace.
Chris at 38:13, LOL.
And Anglesey's an island.
I wished Danny's favourite line was AAAAAWWWWWW!!!
I feel like Danny is the Cat in real life.
awesome how he did that selfie at the end... really a nice way to end it
They should bring back Hattie as the backup computer
+LAVA,
From what I heard (which was from the mouth of Doug himself in a Radio interview), he doesn't want the show to become a Nostalgia thing.
He was mentioning how if he did too many back references, that not only would he being cheating the fans i.e. using Nostalgia to get numbers up, but he would be cheating himself as a writer, and he wants to stay fresh for as long as possible.
But he did mention that if there is a true need for characters like Hattie's version of Holly, Ace Rimmer, Dwayne Dibley etc, where there was a way for them to further the story, that he'd bring them back.
Then he ended the interview by saying that he can't write forever, an the actors can't act forever, and instead of burning out, he'd rather just fade away (basically end it while it's still good), and in that moment he mentioned that the final series would be a tribute which would be full of cameo's etc (or at least hinted that it would be).
So from his perspective, it makes sense.
An if I had to put money on it, I think we probably have at least 2 more series to go, I can see 3 more, but I can't see more than that (an that's me talking, but if what Doug said about fading out is true, then I think 2 more would be the sweet number, have 13/14 written/filmed back to back like 11/12 were).
@@buuzzsawtouchedme194 Good for Mr. Naylor!
One of the tragic realities of DisneyWars is that they rely FAR TOO MUCH on fan service and homages in those movies. Did we really need to see yet another Death Star in The Force Awakens? And what about yet another walker attack on Rebel base in the The Last Jedi?
Sure, those are only the starting issues those movies had but there's a point -- they're NOT original plot points and retreads. There's a lack of originality in Hollywood on top of the usual writing issues and thread-bare characterizations which is the biggest issue DisneyWars has aside from the recycled plotlines.
I have only half of Red Dwarf now, all DVD releases of Season 1-6. I would really like to get the rest of it including the crap seasons.
There's just no other show like this and I can count the number of GOOD sci-fi spoons on one hand. The best big feature spoof I've seen in my life is Galaxy Quest but there's been absolutely nothing else on TV that's been good like Red Dwarf generally has been. There's a sea of failed pilots and a smattering of one- and two-season series that just didn't quite make it for a variety of reasons...
That's cos Star Wars is creatively bankrupt the story was told in 3 films it was about Luke growing which he did, all the rest of it is just padding and trying to squeeze more cash out of the world building which was nothing but a back drop to Luke's story. That's why SW keeps failing, it's got nothing new to say. @@AvengerII
I think they've kind of passed the point of where they should've finished it really I think that was back in series 6 where series 7 showed signs of faltering because Chris was considering leaving full time then when he didn't in series 8 and they had the cast of about 6 leads they struggled and the whole thing died for a decade and really the less said about Back to Earth the better that was pure fan service in itself so I wouldn't want to see Dwayne back either, only brainless fan boys want that again. I'm not against them doing new series if that's what Doug wants but the time has definitely come to wrap it up when Doug is ready to because Craig Charles looked really overweight and old in that last series and certainly too old to be sporting punk attire. @@buuzzsawtouchedme194
Doug retired Holly cos Norman Lovett didn't want to do Red Dwarf anymore.
good to see the robot isnt dead how the rumors were
Huh ?
Something I've always wanted an answer for is how we got from end of Season 8 with Rimmer kicking death in the balls and then Back to Earth. What happened in-between and with the rest of the resuscitated crew. Not seen season 12 yet so that may or may not she'd light on it. Did I miss an obvious explanation somewhere?
No sadly you haven't missed anything that's just typical Doug Naylor, there are jokes about it in series 10 where Rimmer goes to say something about what he did to save the day but then he gets cut off by the others so no explanation is given or ever will be probably knowing Doug. He's sloppy on stuff like that. The most plausible theory is that Rimmer was hallucinating about death after he got hit in the head with a can of soft drink but how the situation is saved and what happened to the rest of the crew has never been explained.
Youre probably more right than you know about that, its pretty lazy to set up cliffhangers and then just not bother paying them off. Its the one tedious aspect of Dwarf. @Stefano Pavone
Il manspread 😂🤣😂
Alphabety spaghetti. 😂
A lot of things seem lost on them. What the girl with the coronations street bit meant was why there when there could have been sci fi crossovers and they just didnt get onto it at all. Canny and the fish gag. It was funny because he kept asking like a typical fat cat, getting as much as he could.
1:48 and 10:31, series, not "season".
That woman made me giggle while putting my head in my hands in shame, "I'm a big fan of the show, ever thought about doing a crossover with coronation street" oh dear oh dear oh dear. She must have been out of the country when back to earth was aired.
At first I thought she was saying it with irony and that the cast either missed the point or were being polite with their response. Bless
