I have an uncle who had a cottage near that track. My dad took me there many Saturday nights to watch the stocks and modifieds. Brings back many memories
Thanks Brent. I raced on this track several times in 1964. The pile of concrete curbs are not from the track. They are from the beach. The provincial park used the track to store curbs, gravel, posts and other items used at the beach.
My dad was a race car driver when l was in first grade . The track also had a figure 8 track inside of the oval track . I'm 73 now , and the oval part of the track is still in use in Coos Bay Oregon .
@@marthamitchell9452 no , l no longer live in that area . l now live in a really small community on the oregon coast called waldport , 18 miles south of Newport . But l love old car shows because my dad and uncle used to buy old cars for 50 bucks , speed em up and race them . They crunched up a bunch of them in the demolition derbys . @@jewelcopeland3374 I spent 5 years of my childhood in Newport so I am familiar with Waldport. The Oregon coast was a wonderful place to grow up back in those days.
Hi Brent: Nice change of pace explore. Great old photos. It’s a beautiful piece of land. A camping picnic area would be a great stream if revenue & people could really enjoy it. Thank🌻You👍🏻
I remember back when I lived for Saturday night. There was nothing better than watching them cars go around and around. What made it even better was watching the car that my dad built. He built competitive cars. We raced in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Nevada and Missouri. I got to meet Wendell Scott one summer.
I grew up a quarter of a mile away from one of these tracks just on the South side of Lake Ontario. Drag races on Friday night and stock cars on Saturday. Because we lived so close the owners gave us season passes and it was a large part of my childhod.
Thanks Brent. An unusual one, episode. Enjoyed the drop in historical bubbles. Info. Had no idea that place existed, horse racing & motorsports. Wouldve been quite the happening place on a Saturday night back in the day.... Cheers!
I was born and raised in Wasaga. I have been to this track many times. It was taken over by parks or town and they use it for storage now. You can get a vehicle in but only town or park staff have the key to the gate. Great video and content. Looking forward to checkout by out some of your other vids. I love abandoned places.
Cars is my number one greatest passion. Seeing this abandoned track was really cool, it was a shame there was nothing left of the grand stands and the booth for the commentators for the race. I loved the old photos of what sort of cars raced here before it was abandoned. Amazing video
Yeah, just the few pucs you had were probably important times in other people's lives who may no longer be with us today. If your any type of auto enthusiasts, you cant help but enjoy at least an occasional trip to a cool summers nite race out in the middle of nowhere, at a local small town race track. 🏁 Nothing like a trip to the concession stand & eating ur food & watching some local fan favorites racing their cars. How hard they work all week in their spare time to enjoy the sport, while getting to put on a show for the spectators in the stands. I real slice of wholesome fun in Western culture, & some others as well. Thx for a great video of a once magical place for hard working pple who just loved a lil competition & tradin paint once in a while. U never know how good ya got it, till ya dont.
Great explore, and thanks for showing the before and after pics. Really gives an idea of how nature reclaims. It's interesting that many of the locals aren't aware of the history sitting close by, hidden in the woods. We live near Delaware Speedway, it's been going since 1952. There are races happening regularly on the half mile track. I remember my Dad taking me during school holidays, watching the demolition derbies was my favourite! We can still hear them on a summer's evening when they're up and running. The place doesn't look any different now than it did then. I think even the bleachers are the same ones! Cripes, that's 70 years they've been at it! Cheers Brent! Marian 🇨🇦 P.S. Congratulations on zipping past the 100,000 subs!!

Hi Brent. The racetracks around here are closed also. Everything seems to have become big business or the insurance is way too expensive. It stinks cause it was so much fun. Beautiful beach.

First video of yours that I have come across and watched. I loved it. Being a racing fan, both professional and locally, most of the life, this one was very interesting. It is sad how so many tracks, both Nascar and local tracks have closed even just in the last 20 years. There are many of us who never would have known that this even existed if not for your video. Thank you for bringing it to light. It is people like you that help to keep the memory of these places alive. Thank you for such an amazing video. I look forward to watching more of your videos. It's a very beautiful area. With all the young people wanting to street race, they should open a place like this so they aren't racing in the streets putting others in danger. Have a great day 😀.
I agree. I'm so tired of getting tickets. It would be a blast but nowadays people are too uptight. They want everyone controlled. Having to come to a screeching stop on a yellow or they'll get you for 400 dollars. I could understand if the light was already red but geez it's getting ridiculous.
@@lorimiller4301 good timing on that comment. I just saw on the news last night the cops (not sure if OPP or local) are going to be trying a pilot project using large mall parking lots after hours to allow a controlled environment for drifting/bit of racing etc. (Pretty sure if you search one the local T.O. news sites you'll find the piece, I think I saw it on CTV) Kinda like a car meet where you can open it up without fear of tickets.
