They’re incredibly unrealistic. The one shark attack account I read was absolutely horrifying and real, and it’s theorized the sharks even attacked because of radio frequencies that messed with them, and made them more ravenous. If anyone read that story, it really makes your stomach turn, and just puts a bad taste in my mouth about shark horror. It was an absolutely heartbreaking story, and the way he details it is horrifying.
What’s crazy about the Indianapolis sinking was that they did get a mayday call out, but they thought it was the Japanese leading them into a trap so they didn’t respond to it
@@NoBodyCaresShauuun Patrol plane spotted survivors. Navy then court martialled the captain in a show trial, he committed suicide in 68, and was eventually exonerated by Congress in 2000/2001.
I find it interesting that great whites are ALWAYS portrayed there, while most deaths in the high sea occured from oceanic whitetips. But they are just requiem sharks (aka the most profane looking sharks ever), so they aren't scary (unlike great whites). And Bull sharks are so underrated as movie villains. I mean they are euryhaline, can occur in limnic systems too.
I ironically finished a book by Darcy Coates recently about exploring a “haunted” shipwreck in “dead water”. It’s called “From Below” and I thought it was an interesting, if very easy to read, take on the shipwreck/diving horror. Also, what you think will happen the whole book does not happen to a single person, and I oddly appreciated that, too. The ocean can be scary without being invasive, if you get my drift.
Corrosion of the metal would have consumed all the oxygen in that air pocket. Even buried, the metal would be slowly oxidizing to rust. In 80 years there would be nearly 0% oxygen in that pocket. It would be especially insidious because we feel like we are suffocating when we have a buildup of CO2, not low O2. They wouldn't feel that the air was sour and would have almost zero warning before losing consciousness. Since that room was sealed by a hatch even any oxygen dissolved in the water would be exhausted by then.
Then, there's a breaking of the holy commandments of diving during the beginning and that is to never dive into a location (be it a ship, (or especially a cave)) without a guide line. That can be certain death and many real world divers have lost their lives due to drowning after losing their guidelines or failing to utilize/set up one. (They set up one later, but I was referring to the very first entry into the ship).
Movies can try to be accurate and still be enjoyable. Enclosed spaces on ships are extremely dangerous due to oxygen depletion. There have been incidents where a sailor opens a compartment and climbs in only to fall unconscious, their buddies see them fall and think they had a medical emergency and try to go to them only to die themselves.
Providing information that can potentially save a life is being a Karen? You obviously seem to care quite a bit since you immediately went on the attack. I'm done talking about it - air pockets can work in caves - but in a submerged wreck they would get you killed immediately.
How to beat sharks? *BUBBLES!* no joke, sharks don't like bubbles for some Edit: also, why didnt they take Logans gas tank BEFORE offering him up like a X-mas turkey to Bruce? (fish may be friends but idiots are not)
I just started diving last year and once I learned that I laughed lol I was afraid of sharks but once you look at the stats there's really nothing to be scared of. They say if you do spot a shark keep your eyes on it, because they like getting the jump on its food, stand up vertical so you look less like it's food, and if you have to defend yourself, don't punch it in the snout because you might put your hand in it's mouth, jab it in the gills. Sharks don't like food that fights back lol
this is a pretty unpopular opinion because Brett is the reason why they even got to that situation in the first place but the fact he has the thinking plan of a good controversial way to escape and was actually able to escape the boat makes me think that Brett could've actually survived if he was important to the plot, mf was one of the brutal and probably a bit of the smarter side in shark movies but he had to be killed since he wasn't important for them surviving anyways and him not surviving really makes me think that he died due to plot.
A marine biologist said you’re supposed to make eye contact with the shark and swim backwards away from it slowly and push up on its head so it goes over you lol like yeah right lady!
Trying to fight isn't going to be too effective, after all, it's a predator and nearly everything it has eaten will have tried to fight back. If you had a dive knife going after the gills would be pretty effective since they would cause massive blood loss and can be attacked from outside its body with a slash. Trying to stab the eye might lose your knife if it jerks away too hard. Either way, your best bet would be to use your life preserver and avoid actively moving your arms and legs. There is a lot of floating stuff on the ocean and they don't examine all of it. After enough time your skin will start to hemorrhage spontaneously because of the water and sun. If I recall correctly, many Indianapolis survivors covered their skin in oil from the oil slick which helped prevent sunburn and protect from the water.
that is literally advice for dissuading a shark that hasn't attacked, not for defending yourself. its like saying that talking to a person holding the gun is a stupid plan when they are shooting at you, the advice was for de-escalation before the shooting starts you are equating one thing with another.
@@speedy01247 yeah and it wasn’t like it was swimming at her full speed just maintained it’s speed of coasting. But I wouldn’t need to defend myself wouldn’t be in that situation to begin with lol

It takes a long, long time to ascend without incurring compression sickness. 15% oxygen left would not be enough to safely get to the surface, that's why they have the rule of thirds.
