  • In depth comparison of the 3 mostly used mmwave sensors for Home Assistant. The SEN0395 from DFROBOT, the LD1115H from Hi-link and the LD2410B as well from Hi-link.
    All 3 sensors are 24GHz millimetre-wave radar sensor. All 3 uses a GPIO pin as a sensor as well as UART to interact with the board.
    The SEN0395 and the LD2410B support distance detection as well as sensibility, the LD2410B has also Bluetooth so that can be also adjusted and controlled via a mobile app.
    The LD1115H on the other hand only support changing the sensibility.
    The SEN0395 from DFROBOT, this sensor senses the human presence, stationery, and moving people within the detection range of maximum 9m. This 24GHz millimetre-wave radar sensor that has separate transmitter and receiver antennas.
    It has a transmit power range between 13 to 15 decibel-milliwatts, its 28 cm by 24 cm, operating temperature range for this sensor is -40 degrees Celsius up to 85 degrees Celsius, the default UART baud rate is 9600 and it has 6 pins.
    To connect this, you can simply use the V, G and IO2, but if you also want to interact with the sensor and change the values also for debugging purposes, you will also need to connect the TX and TX pins.
    The LD1115H it’s a high sensitivity 24GHz mmwave sensor that can detect movement to up to 4 m and up to 16 m movement, This sensor its about 2.5mm x 2.5mm in size, the default UART baud_rate is 115200, data_bits: 8, stop_bits: 1, parity: NONE and has 5 pins
    When the radar detects a large motion, it will output mov,a small number that represents the spectral line and the another number that represents the signal strength. If the value changes from mov to occ, then it detects a static object, the rest of the values are the same as the movement.
    The LD2410B is a high-sensitivity 24GHz human presence radar with a distance detection of up to 6 meters when the detection resolution is 0.75 or uo do 1.6 meters when the detection resolution is 0.2. Its 7mmx35mm the pin hole diameter is 0.6mm, and the pin spacing is 1.27mm so smaller than the normal, so I recommend buying the version without the header. It has 5 pins as well VCC 5V, Ground, RX, TX and OUT. The out pin is low when there is no presence detected and hight when there is presence.
    The power supply voltage of the module is 5V, and the power supply capacity of the power supply is required to be greater than 200mA.

    Hi, bellow is the link for my esphome code. You might want to change the manual ip depends on your network, or remove altogether. There are 2 links, one is my setup, the send is a compilation of codes for the 2410 that contains 4 versions complete with instructions and the images so that you can get an idea how should look.

    Can i ask you what sensor you can recommend me that can detect human even if that sensor is moving because i want to use it for my security patrol robot project. Thanks

      Hi, if you looking for a cheap 24GHz I would get the HLK-LD2410 or the HLK-LD2410c, they really cheap and you can just use it without any device, by simply power it up using 5V. They work fine with HA also. I tried the expensive SNE0395, the cheap LD1115H and the LD2410 and LD2410C. I would go for wither the LD2410 or LD2410c, they are the same, the differences is the shape.

    How do these mmWave sensors behave when wind blows on a plant ? Do they mistake the movement of a flower/leaf with a human presence and turn high ?

    • @salvamipc
      @salvamipc  Год назад +2

      Hi, will detect anything moving, it not sensible only to human presence, a fan, a plant all this will affect it.

      @@salvamipc Thank you for that clarification, and for the amount of effort put into this detailed comparison between the different modules.

    Is there any workaround to decrease the heat like putting a heatsink or thermal paste, or something else, Is it possible?

    • @salvamipc
      @salvamipc  Год назад +2

      Don't worry too much about the heat. I have been using the 2410 for few months now, and they holding up good. They do get a bit hotter but the main downside would be using a temperature sensor incapsulated in the same enclosure. But if you move the sensor below the 2410 will sort the problem, since the heat will rise up, also the temperature sensore have an offset option that allow you to calibrate. I purchased a 2410c and this is bigger in size, I'll let you know how compares with the 2410b. The thermopad or paste will not do anything, since they have to be use with a heatsink. And adding a heatsink will make it bulkier. Maybe coppertape.

    I can see the ld2410 works well as a motion detector. How does it test when used to detect presence? Example sitting still and reading a book or watching tv?

    • @salvamipc
      @salvamipc  Год назад +2

      The 2410, it's a briliant sensor, as good as the SEN0395 ot even better. You can ajust the sensibility for the standing and moving individual of any of the 8 detection points. The only problem is that it vets hotter than the other. I will make a video next week ablut the new Ikea VINDSTYRKA sensor, I tuned it with a mini d1, the 2410 as mmwave, ambiance sensor and temperature and humidity. I will shlw thwre how the 2410 works.

    Thank you for the video. Content was good but video was not good and if making additional content suggest getting a stationary mount. To improve overall value of your posting I suggest you amend this video with evaluation of additional Hy-link sensors that include blue tooth capability and latest versions. Your excluding the review of the Hy-link software app for adjusting the sensor variables detracts from the value of the posting regarding the sensor overall capability and value. Should evaluate sensors on the merit of the sensor excluding Home Assistant system. Also, suggest consideration relative to ability of sensor to detect other than human motion and mounting considerations e.g. will animal movement be detected and what size of animals? Thank you for considering for your follow-up postings.

    $29 for only 1 dfrobot mmWave radar sensor? it is way overpriced, sorry but no thanks, maybe I will pay 7-8 usd to test this think but no more than 4-5 usd for 10 pack ($50). Reviews are not so good, not working for most as expected.
    There is nothing expensive to made, it is shit in color
    Just search tor China's

      You know I'm not selling this, right? The 29€ + delivery is what the SEN0395 costs on mouser.es. you can get this fot your project or the cheap ld1115h or the ld2410 that costs about 5€.
      The HS2A43A, is about 30€ on aliexpress, Im sorry but for this price, I rather buy the dfrobot.
      Out of the 3 the best buy for the money is the 2410.
