- Archival footage shot by an amateur filmmaker while visiting England, probably in 1972
It contains stock footage of London: people with typical 1970s clothes walking on Portobello Road market, preachers talking at Hyde Park corner, a sightseeing tour on the Thames River, traffic and pedestrians in Westminster, the British Museum, early 1970s fashion and lifestyle shops in Carnaby Street (Soho), an International Marxist Group manifestation, and more.

When London was British. Love it.
really?...I see too many inmigrants...probably jamaicans
@@gatolocoverga152 Thank God, because the Jamaicans brought us great music and some of the first females I had crushes on. I love my Celtic roots, but not at others' expense - we are all children of Jah!
@@Jamestele1 So you reconizge that back then there's no brits
@@gatolocoverga152 What are you on about? The term British has existed since the Roman era. This old video is full of British people from the early 1970s. YOu seem to not have a firm grasp on things. Dwy'n siarad yr iaith Brydeinig wreiddiol, felly Dwy'n meddwl bod gennych chi broblemau meddwl.
@@Jamestele1 Is that the name of the railway station in Wales?
05:00 *The Tower Hotel* (left) is still being built (opened on September 19, 1973) and 05:18 the paddle steamer *"Princess Elizabeth"* was established as a floating restaurant in 1970 (now she's a restaurant so far, though not on the Thames, but in Dunkirk harbour).
Based on the pace of construction of the Tower Hotel, I guess the shooting date of this footage is summer 1972.
Thanks a lot, I changed the title and description. As usual: you're so helpful!
Thank you so much for the video
You are so welcome!
The one thing that’s missing is the greatest thing here….🎉🎉. Great Britain 😊
Actor Bob Hoskins was a costa on Portobello market
I was 15yr s old and it was good then but not now😔
Awesome 👍
Look how bright lovely London was..it's much darker nowadays.
All the racist moved out of London and white flighted now to Essex and Kent.
We don't live in a medieval village anymore. Get used to it. Blame the British Empire and the globalisation that it brought. Reap what you sow, and all that.
@@urinenet3555Fr lol.
White Brits when their country is 18% non-white after THEY chose to let in immigrants who’s countries were colonised by them: 😠
Most people tend to conflate wanting to be young again with the 'past' always being better. In most cases it wasn't.

Just as grey and dull then as it is now, except now it is overcrowded to an extreme level. One thing to note, the lack of overweight people then when compared to now.
The lack of overweight people is due to the fact that back in the early 70's there were hardly any fast-food joints, except British ones that sold EXCRUCIATINGLY bland food like Fish & Chips which are about as addictive as turds. Whereas in this modern age we have access to mouth-watering highly addictive cuisines from around the World.
This was back in the day when people were people.
For a change, the added music makes it even more enjoyable. Great track, what is it?
Swing it Smooth by Jon Presstone.
@jimsimpson1006 Thanks Jim 👍

The girl at 0:08 dates it.
Keep away from Portobello Road: Rude aggressive crowds, overpriced junk badly cooked food.
Yeah. Groovy baby ! It makes me come over all Austin Powers, or was that the late 60s ?
This takes me back. Love the headbands and the hairdos, especially the Afros. But at least London looked like a civilised place, before they destroyed the skyline and turned it into Dubai on Thames.
It's just like watching my dad's old cine films - and just as boring, lol.
When londoners looked after other londoners and all were one and it was relatively safe
This was when Patrick McKay was roaming around London serial killing old age pensioners and the NI Troubles were kicking off, meaning nowhere was safe from a bomb. I feel much safer these days in London.
@MagrkPMus Good for you. The truth is actually the polar opposite.
My original comment seems to have disappeared from this video. 🤔
London left London over 40 years ago due to Multiculturalism.
The highly unethical economic system which the Tories introduced in the early 80's gave rise to exploitation of the lowest paid workers, rising inequality, debt, and poverty; which led to exponential rise in crimes of financial gain, thus making the streets very unsafe.
And the came sadiq.. ☹️
