Building a $500 Keyboard - The Classy Savage65 with a POM Plate!

- Finally, another long form video LOL. Hope you guys enjoy, I usually don't have time to do videos like these haha. Love this board, and hope ya'll do too. Also, I should mention why I like XHT-BDZ over other lubes for stabilizers: because it's (supposed to) last HELLA long. I'm talking years. Which means no worrying about having to relube stabs in the future! Although to be fair, it's a bit too early to tell, so we'll see if that opinion changes over time. But it performs just as well as krytox and dielectric, so why not, right?
Also, I apologize for the autofocus going in and out; I hadn't realized the camera was in AF while recording rather than MF, so that's why you get that jittering going on in the background, especially in a timelapse. My bad, will watch out for that next time.

Oh hell yeahh!!!!!
You know it!!!
thank you so much for showing me the epsi mod, it's a blessing to listen too and can't wait to use it for my future build
Of course! Epsi out here doing god's work haha
I love this "guide" on building the Savage65! So comprehensive!
Thank you man, I appreciate it!
i just found your channel, ive seen you around some servers and didnt know you had a channel. Honestly, the production quality for youre videos are so good, even though you have a small channel. heres my sub.
I was surprised to see your sound test on Hamji Neo's keeb reaction 4, really loved seeing u there with the savage65! nice surprise!
Thank you! I was pretty hype about it haha
You have a very soothing voice! Also the POM plates seem very tempting
Thank you thank you! Although tbh it's probably soothing because I had just woken up HAHA
This is a beautiful build. LOVE the color choices from the switches on up. I was disapointed with the sound though... further proving that tastes vary. Great work on the video and the build.
Thank you Thank you! Yeah I absolutely love how this thing sounds personally, but I totally get that people are not a fan of this higher pitched thing. Although I'll be honest I'm not particularly happy with the pitch of the spacebar, I really wanted it to be poppy and snappy, but it's just a bit... dull? I dunno I'll definitely have to experiment with that. But thank you again, I appreciate it!
@@AnzelLmao Yea I think I am a low pitch kinda person. I would love a follow-up video on your experiment with the space bar. I am always looking for new mod ideas. I think you can make any combination of parts sound to your liking with the right modifications.
@@ericqhochuli6004 Thank you! Although tbh I have no idea what to do with the spacebar other than change the switch itself LMAO. But we'll see haha.
oooof
definitely subscribed
your content is top level man
Thank you so much, glad to have you here!
Ma guy at it again, sounds so good dude and the video is top notch. Wish I had that chill voice of yours 🤣
Thank you my man, thank you! Keep talking like that and this might go from a keyboard asmr channel to a vocal asmr channel LOL
@@AnzelLmao hahaha mate it could! I’d listen to it 🤣
so underrated!
Thank you!
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh keyboard is crispy
Imma burn it to a crisp
Amazing
Love the keyboard Man
I'm glad you love it as much as I do!
damn that soundtest is nice
Thank you! This is definitely my favorite sounding board to date :)
Wow! It sounds great
thanks, man!
Wow, that sound is so nice!! the pom plate played a role in how clacky that sounds!! way more clacky than the fr4 plate version, kiu!!!(btw u r vids are aesthetically pleasing)
I really love this plate! And thank you again, loving the support!
Yo wassup anzel I love your vids and I love this style of video.
Thank you, man! I really appreciate the love!
Did you get the POM plate from another resource? I've been looking to get a POM plate for this keyboard but I can't seem to find one
Got it aftermarket!
Havent tried c3 stabs yet but it is def hard to beat v2 specially for the spacebar.
Sounds awesome
thank you!
I haven't felt any stick-slip on the C3 v2 stabs whatsoever. I've used them on several builds, but also on my Space65 CyberVoyager which gets a lot of use (and no special mods, just 205g0 and Permatex dielectric), and they are still super smooth and have no rattle.
That's dope! I've used c3 stabs before and haven't this issue until this build, so if anything I just assumed it was an issue with possible batch variance, or maybe I didn't lube the housings enough.
I still recommend c3 over Durock v1s, and they're mostly toe-to-toe with the v2s, although I personally prefer the v2s as I find them just a tad bit smoother, regardless of batch variance. But glad to here everything's good on your end!
@@AnzelLmao Don't get me wrong, Durock V2's are a great choice.
@@_fatalruin oh absolutely! And trust I didn't take that comment that way or anything haha, all g
Love watching how things are made! How did you start getting into this?
Thank you! And by “getting into this” I’m gonna assume you mean the keyboard hobby overall😂
I’ll keep it as short as possible: I wanted a mechanical keyboard back when I started playing osu 3-3.5 years ago. Got a Logitech g710+. Quickly discovered r/mk, got a magicforce68 per their recommendation. Then i wanted a custom, got it, secondhand, from a guy on r/mm, about 2ish years ago? Then i sold that to a friend, got another custom built by kbdfans not too long after because I needed the silence (fortnite make big noise). Then I built my first custom a little under a year or so ago (my silent tofu build on my channel), which is when I REALLY got into the weeds of the hobby; I was always aware of the intricacies of keebs but I REALLY dug deep then. And it all just kinda snowballed from there!
nice dogikons my favorite switches btw
Thank you! And they might be my favorite as well!
top notch video - where did you get the POM plate? I'm looking into a savage65 and have had trouble finding one.
had to buy it aftermarket on r/mm!
nice broo
Thank you, man! We tryin out here haha
POM plates are so good.
I love this thing! Even though it's not as nearly as flexible as I thought it would end up (the pcb doesn't have flex cuts, dunno why I didn't think of that lmao), the bottom out is still super soft, and I love it!
@@AnzelLmao yeah man for sure! pom plates are flexy but not too flexy for me, I think the fact that its aluminum with top mount might take away a little flex. But the sound is great.
@@deezy9330 tbh it's also probably the fact that it has like 8 mounting points? But definitely the lack of flex cuts in the pcb as well; even just holding the pcb you can tell it's not that flexible... but I'm still holding out for a kbd67 flex cut pcb and an fr4 half plate one day LOL
@@AnzelLmao Yeah I agree. 8 mounting points will def hold the flex back, using a pom plate rn and I love it for the most part. Man I agree, I want a fr4 plate and half plate so bad lol
dang ive been doing holee mod since i heard of it, now i might try epsi mod
what camera do you use. ?
xt3 and bmpcc4k!
Anzel nice keyboard! But um would you mind putting a link to where you got the blue keycaps you never talked about them and it got me very confused.
They're kprepublic muted accents, it's in the description!
How did you straighten your wires exactly? that’s the problem I’m always having
I use my iphone to check if it's straight. The side the ticks while I tap it is the side that is elevated, so i literally just bend it until its straight haha. I push down on the wire while it's hanging off the edge of my phone for leverage.
For extra stubborn wires I'll stick the end inside of my solder sucker and grab the other end with pliers. Then I'll twist the wires depending on which way they need to be straightened. You have to be careful tho, as the wire bends fairly easily this and way and it's easy to get into a loop of fixing opposite sides over and over again to compensate for over-bending it.
@@AnzelLmao Oh ok thank you for your help. I tried doing this but I’m scared I will bend it 😂 maybe I might give it another shot.
@@Sayject hahah you'll be fine, I'm sure! Just dont go too ham LOL
@@AnzelLmao 😂 got it, thanks for the help.
Goddamn you use a big ass soldering tip lol
Did you put any foam in the keyboard?
Not that I can remember!
@@AnzelLmao Cannon keys also made a keyboard called the Practice 65 V2 and I was thinking of copping it so I could practice soldering, do you think this keyboard would be suitable for an 'end-game' keyboard and sound and feel better than my Corsair K63 with cherry reds?
@@foggyd8821 technically endgame is the board you love the most, not necessarily the highest quality board you own! It’s all up to you what endgame means!!
How do you get a Pom plate???
Secondhand from r/mm!
nice
nice
NEW UPLOAD also first :)
glad you're here!
how did you balance the stab wires?
by bending the sides! Check my $200 build video!
cool
no u
Also is the savage 65 alluvium or polycarbonate and what color
