      What does DPU alright mean?

    • @WideWorldofTrains
      @WideWorldofTrains  Год назад +1

      @@daviddee3179 Yes a DPU stands for distributed power unit. It basically is any locomotive on a train that is not part of the front group of engines and is helping power the train. It could be placed anywhere else in the middle halfway down a third of the way down or at the end basically anywhere is on the train that they decide.

    Yes a lot of work to be done on the tracks. I remember seeing the workers doing this. I understand this. And the welding they do, and putting in new spikes and new plates on the ties . It’s a lot of hard work. ❤❤❤🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🌎

    The yellow over redon the siding is an aprotch signal, the green over red is a clear signal on the main line.

    Pair of "Centrals" (Maine & Wisconsin) highlight @15:45 on good ol' Selkirk manifest M367. Absolutely loved listening to that "loud 'n proud" NS265 horn goin' thru Dunkirk @18:57...outstanding "NY" scenery footage to close-out that segment WWOT. Good ol' "Eye Double-Oh-Nine" never disappoints with a Triple Crown "smack-dab" on the headend!! Fabulous "fun" video WWOT...

    Back in 1998 I decided to go out and take some pictures of NBSR as had 2 GP-38-3 NBSR with 2 units from Iron Road, a GP-38 and a GP-40. I wandered down track side where today the Cities Harbour Passage to Long Wharf to watch the transfer heading west. I stood by the chain link fence in aww and fear as the cars were swaying so that I could read the end car numbers. great video.

    great vid.. the train at 24.20 looks fairly short from the perspective where u r standing.. but it sure as heck was longer then we thought it was going to be. shows how perspective when looking over a long distance sure can give a false view. keep up the great work.

    I am a retired Track Worker and am surprised at the poor track conditions. In the Netherlands where I live you will not see this like this. Not even on freight lines. The leveling of the tracks are appallingly bad, so as are the sleepers and fasteners. The level crossings are also terrible . Mind boggling.

    How cool was that Canadian Pacific! Absolutely booking and bouncing, Jack!! Thanks for the explanation about the sandbox and traction from the engines. I wondered where the sand came from. Anything to do with rail infrastructure I love! That rail looks like a candidate for a thermite weld! What a CSX, NS and BNSF Lash up with my favourite Maine Central Boxcar alright! The disjointed rails filmed by WWoT look like something you would see in California. Fault movements distort bridges, roads pipes and rails. The CSX train with CSX, NS and BNSF locomotives look like the rainbow trains from the early 70's.

    BTW: I used to live a few miles away from the area where your videos are made, but moved to deep deep deep south 20 years ago.
    Also, My Dad worked for NY Central/Penn Central/Conrail up until he passed away in mid 1970's.
    I used to spend a lot of my workday at Conrail, later CSX plus Norfolk Southern's rail yards in Buffalo.

    Thanks for some pretty exciting videos! Maybe you've been asked this before, but any chance you could buy something like the Bausch & Laub speed gun that Jawtooth has? You catch some trains that are running very fast and it would be neat to see how fast they are going (of course like Jawtooth, you wouldn't point the speed gun at the front of the train but rather at least a little ways down the train).

    4:20 will someone pls tell me why that signal is always yellow I’ve always wondered that

    • @RestrictedProceed
      @RestrictedProceed Год назад +1

      It's the last automatic block signal before the absolute interlocking signal. Absolute signals display their most restrictive aspect, "stop", unless a train is lined (which is not the case here). As the automatic block signal also works as the distant signal for the following signal, it will display "approach" when the next signal is at "stop" (granted the block it protects is not occupied).
