Zoe, I'm here cracking up because you are speaking my mind about celebrity worship, ballet flats amongst other things...it's scary!!! Very good podcast and I'm sure to listen to the others. I doing my own fashion thing and I really need truths in my world right now from people who's done the work and know what their talking about. Thanks for your contributions to the education of fashion design.

BEST FASHION PODCAST ALREADY, I can relate very much with the Loewe Elephant bag rant... people can be very inconsiderate when it comes to wearables and how they are made AND priced

You’re so right about people who thinks things are super easy to create/ produce. It always makes me feel sick when I think about people just throwing away stuff so easily when they have no idea someone put the effort to construct that and was not even paid well.
    Loved the podcast idea btw

I know Zoe isn't a fan of fashion-based reality tv shows, but I think her depth of knowledge, professional experience as a designer and teacher, and personality makes her a perfect fit for the format. It would allow for the opportunity for a rigorous learning experience with contestants.

@@zoehongteaches Yep, that's what I meant. You would be a great judge. Pitch and shop your own show. My mum always said "ignorance breeds contempt", this is definitely one of those cases. I also get it all the time. Also the "ohh you can just whip one up!!!!". Like the shirt that took a month of my free time, and a friend that said "if I give you a couple of bucks can you make me one. I said no...but if you want to come and do my ironing for a week so I will have time to make one for you I will. She laughed and said she didn't want one that badly. Yeah, just whip one up....huh.

I know I'm a week late Zoe, but I love your fashion podcast. I love the little old man story talking about actual aliens👽👽👽 Lmao. And I love the rant about Loewe Elephant bag. I can relate to it on so many levels.
Ik I wanted 2 b a wedding dress designer, but it didn't work out because it was hard on my neck, etc. I still do like to make things with my sewing machine, but I've decided that I want to be an artist. Which means I don't always really have time for sewing.
So yeah I could make it, but there's a lot people don't take in consideration as you said. There could b chores around the house, pple could b dealing with mental health issues, maybe your hands hurt, etc. There's a lot that could b happening in a person's life. It would be nice to create all the time but we are not machines who can work 24/7.
But I hope you continue with this podcast. I love hearing your opinions on good fashion trends or toxic fashion trends.❤❤❤❤

You are defintely right about the education needed in order to succeed in the fashion industry. It is a tough world out there. You need to have a foundation of basic knowledge in order to succeed whether you are a designer, stylist or other profession in fashion. It takes time and effort to learn those professions. People do not understand what it takes to master your craft. There is definitely challenges to learning online versus the classroom. I am currently attending a fashion school for fashion marketing at a physical location, but I have also taken online courses at FIT. There is definitely a difference in teaching styles. You can definitely push your students to be their best when you are physically with them in class. Yu also do not have the opportunity to interact in real time with your classmates and teachers.

Have you ever thought about a weekend workshop blitz??? IDK about particulars, maybe a 2 day half day workshop (?) but I'd be interested in a class that focuses on just working in a short time period to help get rid of perfectionism, work on taking a creative idea and running with it and refining design ideas through a structured process. I'm in the middle of starting your Patreon classes and loving it! But I am also the kind of person who gets overly critical of things that probably aren't important when learning basics. It could be a peer review with just a simply voting system and you could have the option to pick and choose a specific few assignments to review topics and things. I would LOVE that. 🙏🏻 Great podcasts as always.

I am starting a couture clothing line (hi Zoe if you remember me), and am taking entrepreneurship classes at u of m. I got the OK to use my line as a class project (and built a team of my classmates who are mini professionals like me) but MY GOD CAN I RELATE. I made my own block patterns but I’m still trying to figure out standard blocks and pattern making in general. My prof during a meeting told me to make TWO DOZEN ITEMS as my “initial prototype/MVP”. Mind you, we are expected to start selling next month. I can’t just create a million patterns by myself in a month! Even other people within the business space I have spoken to have chalked up making clothing to be so easy and fast, even when it’s couture. Frustrates me to no end. Fashion design is just seen as an “easy” art form and ugh my god. It takes architecture and engineering. But okay mini rant over

I LOVE your hat! And also I have so much to tell you about your rant :) I have so many skills. Everything I do I do right for the first time (because I learn a lot! And it takes time!) and I wear only well done stuff. So every time I have on me something nice, people assume I made it. It is frustrating, because I also have a passion for vintage well made clothes. Once at the office I wore wool and silk blend knit hight rise, pencil skirt with cargo pockets with zippers. Divine quality, best french artisan quality. It wasn't mine, but I was disapointing my coworkers that it wasn't mine creation. Obviously it wasn't. It is aspirational piece. I can make similar one but why I should be going on this path? Why no one asked where I found it and where you can rescue and wear proud this kind of history piece of french craftmanship? Why? It was only around $5 (in polish currency is like a pair of second hand jeans). We should take what was produces and take care of that and pick the best stuff from this pile of fast fashion crap. No one should be ashamed that he wasn't going to imitate other creator. It is rude.

I swear, every time I see some internet schmuck talk about the fast fashion problem, they only wanna talk about the issue of physical waste, which of course is a huge issue, but I just find it very very inch resting that no one wants to talk about the mistreatment and exploitation of people being paid pennies a day in places like Malaysia, Guatemala, Pakistan, etc. to make some shitty graphic tee that'll last maybe 10 washes. hmm... wonder why that is. 🤔🤔🤔

Also can people STOP asking anyone who sews whether they are a fashion designer or not TO MAKE CLOTHES FOR THEM!!!! Omg that really infuriates me!! When people know I can sew and design clothes they always have this pre-conceived idea I'm available to make them clothes at their disposal smh! As if I could just sew clothes right there and then out of my ass and give it to them straight away!!! They don't even offer payment most of the times anyway LOL, but its the entitlement that really pisses me off!! You make such a good point about how that mentality links to fast fashion - people are so disconnected and out of touch with how anything is made. Because of that everything looks instant and easy. I really hate it... honestly it's like going to someone's work place and demanding them that you get their services or products for free just because they work there. Great podcast btw I'm listening to you whilst I'm sewing lol, love all your content!!
