It isn't that effortless singing we enjoyed some years ago... I'm afraid JDF should have longer breaks between concerts and recitals. It seems he forced his voice. These long pauses before taking the highest notes, as in "La donna e mobile", which have becoming his stage "trick", obviously are neccessary for him to have a rest and to brace himself up. Maestro, seems it's time to save strength and the voice... We want to hear You sing as long as possible!

Not sure if this clip is of his encore, but really the whole 'comic' thing of pausing and joking with the conductor before the high note should only be reserved for one big, popular number such as La Donna. To do it during his signature 'Pour Mon Ame" is very disappointing, and suggests that his voice is indeed now struggling somewhat. I'm not in anyway a detractor of JDF. I think he really is the finest living tenor. But I've always had the nagging fear that his voice wouldn't have longevity.

ballyhigh11 Well, not being an expert I just think that JDF should be very careful of his most beautiful, but very light and not a big voice. He can't exploit it too intensively performing as often as he does. On December 15th, 2014, he gave a wonderful recital at Munich - sounded perfectly. In February and March 2015 he participated in the real operatic Marathon - 8 performances of "La Donna del Lago" at Metropolitan. He sounded beautiful though sang "O fiamma soave" in much slower tempo and without that brilliance one could hear in his rendition on CD with Rossini's arias recorded in 2001. I share your admiration for JDF - he's a unique phenomenon of the today's operatic stage. Let's hope we shall be able to enjoy his voice and art still for many years. Regards!
