The saddest moment in speedway history has to be the accident that claimed the life of Adel Shaheen (I think that was in 1967). After a heat race was over, Shaheen and another got together and Shaheen's car flipped. His belts gave way, he was thrown onto the track, and another car hit him. There was no ambulance or emergency crew at the track. And it was found that Adel's belts were corroded by battery acid (the battery was located just behind the driver.)
I see John A. Utsman's #36 and Bill Morton's #56 n the pits in the first picture. Any idea who the others are? In the second picture, I recognize Bill Morton's #56 with its 1968 body and I think #2 is Junior Fickle. Who is #21?
Anyone got a picture of that little purple modified Gene Glover drove in 1966 and 67? I loved that car.
