One of the rare moments where her mother doesn’t belittle her in front of others. So glad she got to spend 5 years with the queen who showed her what real maternal love looks like. I think Shaoshang learned a lot from that time. As well as her mother who lost her daughter again during that time 🥰

OMGEE she rocks this roll. CD's need to have more young characters like her and stop all these young women who acts as if they cannot think for themselves, and that all the abuse from elder.
It only works because she knows her future husband hates that "stepmother" and is currently ignoring Ling Yi and the rest of the Ling Family. If she had to move into their residence it would be a different story. That's why she "gifted" those two servants so she could have spies in the Gen. Ling's home.
I wouldn't want to be on the bad side of that trio (Zisheng, Niao Naio, her mother). That would be a savage tongue ripping that no surgeon could fix. This is one family melding for the history books. There needs to be a Season 2 to see this couple's kids and the whole family battling together. I so badly want to see Shaosheng in battle armor. Holy Cow that would be magnificent!

Yes, noticed. Sun Kai (Xiao Pang in FIYS) support cast that was often around. Gao Han (Lao K in FIYS) appeared not as often, deemed a recurring guest role, as he is not in the circle that often surrounded the male and female leads. But in part 2 his third prince scenes were important and character fleshed better. He was critical in helping ML obtain justice. He looks much different in traditional costume and his face, thinner.😊

In this scene, Shaoshang has finally understood whose side she wants to stand by before she was conflicted as she did not want to offend her future 'in laws' or her parents too much otherwise there would be another broken engagement.
Now Shaoshang is on LBY's team and understood that LBY's stepmother actions have caused his mother to be in such a sorry state, Shaoshang starts to be on the defensive of LBY (& his mum) by using her wits as her fists are pretty useless at any fight.
When I watch this in my mind i see the Cheng family form a protective wall around Zisheng 😁
