I’ve always taken the hat change as him conceding that Tim sings lower than him and therefore is “taking his hat off to him”. That last note is absolutely killer! Go Tim!
Caitlin Seaton It truly was amazing! Lol my theory was just a random thought that I had while recording and also maybe me introducing a new series on my channel 🤭
Caitlin Seaton they are both great at what they do avi is killer at overtones Tim is great at growls and Geoff is good at subharmonics comparing 3 different styles to each other doesn’t make sense
Nice reaction, but I don't think there is any hidden symbolism there at the end. This was recorded almost three years before Avi announced he was leaving Pentatonix. I think the hat was just a way of acknowledging Avi's diverse interests in music. He had said in an interview that the beanie was very important (I think it was after they released the video for "Problem", and Avi was not wearing a hat), so swapping out the beanie for the cowboy hat was a way of showing his friendship with the group. Tim apparently worked with Avi to help Avi hit lower notes, and Avi has a non-singing cameo in another Home Free video. There is a lot of camaraderie in the a cappella world, and this is an example.
@@myrlwallace9012 Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget. He doesn't sing, though. He pops in once at the front of the screen, then can be seen again in the background at the end.
He has a photobomb moment in "Champagne Taste (On A Beer Budget)" and he appears at the very end of the song (barefoot, on the mechanical bull in the background).
Thanks Joseph, I love you, too. My take about the hat thing....I took it as Avi giving a "Hats-off" kind of symbol toTim for not only hitting that low of a note, but also holding to that long note, as long as he did. BTW- Tim and Avi have been close friends for a long time, but did you know that Tim was the one that taught Avi how to hit those low notes? Yep, he sure did. But Avi for some reason, is still not able to reach those really, really low notes that Tim can. I say, just give him time. ;)
Tim, Avi, and Geoff from Voice Play all help each other with different techniques and stuff. Tim has been working with Chance since he took Chris' place to help him expand his range and technique too. I'm sure a lot of the guys in tbe bass community help each other out since they're kind of rare.
Avi has an opera level voice clarity. Pentatonix rarely used him for that quality, though he sneeked some in (the first Noel). Normally he was just bass backup. He REALLY can sing.
I think we're all amazed by the depth of bass we get from Avi and Tim, the percussion is fantastic, ....it compliments the voices, but I cannot go without mentioning the incredible voices of Austin and Rob, they hit some incredible notes.
Love your Home Free reactions & your insights!! I subbed so please keep doing the Home Free reactions - they seem to be getting better & better as time goes on. Would love for you to react to Home Free’s covers of Helplessly Hoping, Love Train, Seven Bridges Road, & We Just Disagree. Thanks for the reactions!!
IMHO, Tim has the blow your speaker kind of bass line. Avi has a super low singing bass. They are both F'ing unbelievable, but they seem to sing two different kinds of bass. I thing Avi was just "paying homage" to the country style as well... I'm a huge fan of both of them. Great reaction video!
I thought it would be a salute to Tim's last growl note and how long he held it at the end. Avi's doing more folk type music now though, not country. Avi's bass and Tim's bass are both great, but different. Avi had operatic instruction and his voice is full, smooth. Tim's is more rough and growly, but he can go deeper than most, and he has a rich singing voice, with range. Adam's percussion is great! They call him a "freak of nature".
i always think Avi switching hats to a cowboy hat is just like acknowledging Home Free's style of country music. He's a guest to the team afterall. And we mostly see him wearing a beanie, and by the cowboy hat, it's just being together with respect Home Free guys. It's not like he considers switching to Home Free. It's "acknowledgement" or a "salute" to fellow acapella singers.
This was recorded long before Avi left. It’s more about tipping his hat to Tim, who helped his lower his own range, who also sang the lowest note in this video as well as he’s more pop and the guys are more country!
I have no idea how the RUclips algorithms picked you up today but I am very happy it did. You are quite insightful about the music and the musicians behind it.
I'm a new subscriber of yours. Just wanna point a simple differentiation between Avi and Tim. Avi has a voice of an "Opera" singer that's why it sounds warm and you thought it's full. While Tim has this natural "Country" voice. Even his singing voice in different ranges sounds and fits perfectly in a country music and I love how differently they sound like. Both are great!
Hello! Just stumbled onto this year... but if some miracle you see this 2020 is the year Avi is releasing his solo career and his solo songs!! Avi Recommendations: The Summit, Change on the rise, Get Down, and I'll Get By are all songs I listen daily to.
The changing the hats was nothing more than acknowledgement of the fact that they were singing a country song. It's kinda like if someone visits Texas and buys a pair of boots just because they're in Texas. Little do they know, you can buy them elsewhere way cheaper because they actually wear them down here and are not just novelties.
Bringing in a second bass gave them so much more freedom with the song! Being able to have Tim or Avi sing while the other is on bass really made this song in my opinion.
Awww, love you too Joseph. It was so nice how they balanced the bass parts, and both got to shine. So far the day has been great...for me. Have you seen FaceVocalBand? Would love to see your reaction to their version of Hallelujah & the Secret Door. They take the song in a magical direction.
Ally Bandy I’ve never actually heard of them, but I’m open to reviewing more artists and groups, thanks for the suggestion! and I’m glad your day is going well!!!
I love your reactions and just subscribed. You might enjoy watching Adam Rupp from Home Free doing a drum solo, It is Adam Rupp drum solo, SPM ST15. This is the one I watched but they have some newer ones also. It is pretty awesome. They have a great cover of Love Train from the 70's. It is just great fun. Helplessly Hoping is another favorites. I have just discovered their group and I'm hooked. Anyway, I am enjoying your channel and your insights. Thanks.
I think with the hat, he was paying tribute to Johnny Cash. He made that song HUGE, especially since his wife, June Carter Cash wrote it...have you heard “hurt” by Johnny Cash? He did the video a few months after his wife passed, and then he passed not long after, some say to a broken heart
Intriguing theory but since this video was posted 3 years before he left PTX so probably not what you thought. He did another video with home free a little earlier than this one and he was wearing the cowboy hat then so I have no clue. Adam Rupp is an insanely talented beat boxer. You need to check out his beat boxing solo on one of their live shows. There are a number of them on You Tube but they are all fan cams and most are not great. Here is a link to what is probably the best one I have seen: ruclips.net/video/bWsbD7vcwh4/видео.html
Ray Raudebaugh Lol I’m quite sure my theory isn’t valid, but it’s just a theory lol. Something fun to think about, I honestly don’t even know how it came to fruition lol, but I most definitely will check it out. Most likely for a video though!
I like the beatboxing that Adam Rupp does that enhances the song, not drown out the singer and lyrics.. As for the changing of the hats, I think it was his way of complementing Tim and his insanely low note at the end of the song..
Mellow Marsha It all was amazing, but I believe I may just have to review the sing off performance and give you my opinion on that as well! Thanks for commenting your insight! Much love
I thought I'd heard somewhere that Avi was from Texas, and if so he might have been acknowledging his Texan roots. That's what I've been thinking . If I heard wrong, I'll try to think of something different. LOL I like their take on this classic song. Thanks, I enjoyed your reaction as usual. ^_^
Karen G Thank you so much and all of the theories are amazing and I love how you guys are responding to it. My theory was just a quick thought and not actually something I believe, but I think I may do more fan theories for artists and things of that nature 🤭
Avi's from California. Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie from Pentatonix are from Texas so the group claimed Texas on The Sing Off. That's probably where the confusion came from.
It also could be that the person I got it from misunderstood. :P It's all good. I like Avi's voice also. His is that classic sound and Tim has that western drawl. Thanks! ^_^
You're welcome and no worries. I see nothing wrong with fan theories. Someone out there knows and I like finding things out * pats keyboard * and sharing things! I also like people and music. Lets keep that going. ^_^
Hi. Loved the reaction. Home Free are great so please do some more. One more A Capella group to check out is VOCTAVE, Their harmonies are amazing :) Disney Love Medley with Kirsten (Pentatonix) is really good.
I think that the hat thing was just Avi's way of honoring the musicality of Home Free, and in this song, especially, plus Tim went lower than Avi's low note in it. Mostly, I just think Avi was enjoying himself. ;-) I know he's really talented, but I've tried listening to his new stuff, and don't like it in the least...simply not my style at all, though his SOUND is just fine. I just don't care for the subjects and the style. Enjoyed this reaction very much...well done on the analysis (as always). ;-) I would love it if you would react to: "Helplessly Hoping" ruclips.net/video/kQt9jKDCqHo/видео.html

The switch from black beanie, to black cowboy hat is in respect for Johnny Cash, the oeiginal writer and singer.
TheJosephDavis I'm pretty sure that Adam's teeth are actually a full drum set and he uses his tongue as drumsticks
I’ve always taken the hat change as him conceding that Tim sings lower than him and therefore is “taking his hat off to him”. That last note is absolutely killer! Go Tim!

Yea I’m almost certain there wasn’t any symbolism, but just imagine if there was? Lol that would be the perfect conspiracy
I agree. It's a "hats off" to Home Free and especially Tim Foust.
Which other Home Free video did Avi appear in?

Love this version of Johnny Cash's classic song
Me too, they just add to the richness of the lyrics
This was a song originally done by Johnny Cash, who was known as the Man In Black. I'm thinking that was Avi's tribute to Johnny Cash.
Possibly! Never thought of that..

brandon jones Thanks bro!
Try Avi's "Change on the Rise" it's amazing!
I like his take on RIng of Fire.
It was a chill tailgaiter....lol.
Have you checked out Home Free new cover of "End of the Road"?
I think Avi took his hat off to Tim's ability to go lower than him.. he was conceding to him as an honor
It's only a guess, but maybe Avi's hat change is a nod to Johnny Cash "The Man in Black" Again, it's just an idea.
Johnny Cash sang the original. You should review that one. It was a tribute to Johnny Cash. He always wore a black cowboy hat.
I’ve never thought of it before but I guess now I will 🙏🏽 Thanks for the suggestion!
Lookin good
I think Avi was tipping his hat to Tim for going that low on that last note.
You should check out Man of Constant Sorrow. What Adam does will impress you.
You need to react to Home Free Blue Ain't Your Color.
Avi...Change on the rise or Aberdeen are great choices.
you get music its about time to none of the other reactors do
Adam is badass
If you haven't listen to the ring of fire by the original artist Jonny Cash I reccomend it.
Classic
If you are still making reaction videos, could you please react to “Cabinet Door” by Anderson East? Thank you!
I kinda just think the hat was an homage to Johnny Cash
Avi bowed to Tim by switching hats...Tim can go lower than Avi.
