GT3 and 4 are super close I had them both and lost so much time. I've broken controllers, stayed up an entire weekend doing endurance races on both. Those 2 games pushed me as a gamer to my limits at the time.
My first game ever was Top gear 2 for the SNES. This game had a long story mode that supported split screen, upgradeable cars, and damage that would get so bad your car wouldn't leave first gear. This was the first Gran turismo IMO

Going from GT2 to GT3 was dissapointing for me, GT4 was the only one that felt like a true successor. GT3 just felt rushed (in terms of the experience, not really overall) to me and I didn't play it near as much as i did 4.

I agree with the entire list except I'd put GT6 ahead of GT5. I know people who look at GT4 and can't believe it's a PS2 game. It was far ahead of its time in both graphics and gameplay. It's not just the best GT game, it's the best racing game ever, period.
Truth is : you quickly get bored in every Gran Turismo game. It becomes a farming game, just to get every gold trophy. The strange part is, I actually like it this way...
To top what Gran Turismo 4 did in 2005, we would need to have a game: - with rF2 levels of driving physics for track :D - RBR levels of driving physics for the rally part :D - 800 cars (this time less skylines and miata variants ^^) - Graphics on par with GT Sport - Forza 7 levels of customization
M RO I’d have to disagree. The GT series isn’t meant to be ultra-realistic in physics. GTS is almost exactly what GT4 did. The only real downside now (after the December update) is the lack of cars and older iconic tracks. Sport is getting really close to being the best racing game ever. Not the most cars, tracks, multiplayer, or physics, but unlike any other game, it brings back the feeling of me at 7 years old playing GT4. MrJr GTS doesn't come any close to become a best GT game. It has a good graphics and improved car sounds but that's it. Only new thing it brung is rating in online races, but other than that GT6 had much more better online experience, with more events, drift modes and more.
4 was one of the first ganes i played. I was too young to play when it was released but when i turned 6 i became a pro at the game. And to this day still hail it one of the best ganes ever
i personally think Gran Turismo 3 was the best Gran Turismo game ever to this day. it was my go to childhood racing game. i spent hours on it every day.
This is actually pretty surprising because GT4 was my first pro racing simulator game ever and I’ll admit back then I wasn’t very mechanic savvy and didn’t understand the amount of detail they put into the game but now having played this GT5, GT6 & GT Sport, as well as working on my own car for street racing thanks to NFS influencing me and having an actual racing rig at home instead of using a regular controller like I did back then so that I can feel like it’s the real deal, GT4 has SOOOOOO much potential and SOOOO MANY great features!!!! I still play it today yes I still have my original PS2 to play it today!!! GT4 really is king and will definitely help you to become a better driver and a better mechanic in some aspects. With a rig of course. Definitely would recommend getting one even if you have to start off with a cheap Logitech wheel, shifter, and pedals. Once you get good enough and save a bit of money you can get something sturdier that will feel a big more realistic. Guarantee you when you get in the car and find an open parking lot early in the morning or at night to try out some things and a manual system car or even a track you’ll see the greatness you can gain from this game!
I had a ps2 and all I played was gt3 and mainly gt4 it was only until 2012 I got a Xbox 360 and played forza 4 for the first time that I realised how incredible the graphics on gt4 were I admit I personally prefer forza to gt but without gt there woud be no forza
Technonaut games I'm sure sony would like to release gt3 or 4 on their current system but I would guess licenses for the songs and cars etc would have expired so it would be hugely expensive to re obtain them. I hope I'm wrong though. I'd love another excuse to complete 4 again.
To me it's simple: Gran Turismo 1 was my first ever video game. Gran Turismo 3 was my first PS2 game, and Gran Turismo 5 was my first PS3 game. GT3 comes first for me because of nostalgia, and GT4 is a very close second because of the countless hours spent on both of these. The rest of the classement is the same as yours. I didn't play GT6 or GT Sport yet. So I can't decide for them.

My Top 5 in my opinion 1. GT Sport - not only because of it's realistic sounds, graphics, and great gameplay but with the livery editor since I love designing cars in my own way. 2. GT5 - The only game that can be modded easily unlike GT6 which you need to jailbreak PS3 to do that. Aside from the great gameplay of it, modding cars is one of my hobbies too. I like hacking the Nissan GT-R GT Academy with 3000hp then rename it to Alpha Omega, Lamborghini Gallardo with 1600hp then rename it to UGR TT, or SLR McLaren with the SLS AMG 7spd tranny. 3. GT4 - Yes, one of the best games ever made. The events, mission challenges, and the entire gameplay is amazing for it's time. I remember doing the El Capitan 300miles then I get the Minolta 88C-V then sell it for $1M then repeat for easy million per hour. 4. GT3 - Just like GT4 but the loads of GT events are the amazing ones especially those sleeper cars in professional league which made the game much realistic while challenging like the Viper going 250mph at Like the Wind with stock exhaust tune. 5. GT6 - loads of cars, space event mission, tuning, and online thing is what made me put this GT in top 5. The rest are craps especially the car sounds.
If anything makes or breaks a racing game for me (as a gamepad/controller player) it's the chase camera.. and GT2 had one of the best - one of the big reasons why I currently, in 2021, still find myself playing GT2 in my spare time on an emulator (when I could just as well play GT4.. EDIT: or ProJect Cars, or.. Assetto Corsa.. or.. you name it.. )
I never started playing the GT series until 2003 where I first started playing GT3, which I have to admit was a really good game in it's day. Have to admit I rather enjoy watching the racing more than actually playing it, which is why I was so excited when they added the directors B-spec mode on GT4. One problem though was some of the Extreme races I thought were too short unlike in GT3 and the B-Spec had some major floor,s when you had the setting on "push hard" the car would just keep driving of the road, thus randomly slowing down or crashing, which was really annoying! However the b-spec I thought was completely transformed in GT5! I really like the idea how they incorporated B-spec into a separate gaming mode from A-spec where you could create your own team of drivers and the way it works was much better than GT4 ever was! Thus the races were also longer and more exciting! There were a few floors where sometimes your car would drive around off line preventing it from getting a tow on a car in front, thus lapped cars should stay on the racing line when being lapped, as this can often cause congestion. IMO at least GT5 was the pinnacle of the GT series! GT6 however was more like a backwards step! True they did have some brilliant new cars like the Monster Sport SX4 Pikes Peak, the Audi R18, Red Bull X2014 Junior and the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo exc. But the game play was crap and poorly set up. One most of the race car events ain’t competitive enough! For instants some have LMP cars and Touring cars mixed together, how is that a race? They really should have more event races with cars that have equal performance points. Second they space the cars so far a part at the start it becomes more a game of playing catch up rather than a race, resulting in very little track action! Third the International A Class races are far too short, and the loss of the Endurance races was a major blow for me being a hardcore b-spec racer! Third the b-spec mode itself is like a downgraded version from GT5! It's not near as fun, the cars stupidly drive around off line while following another which can often result in it going over the curb and incurring an unrealistic unfair time penalty! One good thing I will say about the b-spec mode is it gives you the ability to control the car like positioning it to overtake cars cleanly without driving into the back of the car in front, as well as throttle and brake control. One final thing that brakes up the racing in the Super league is the outrageously short life of the fuel and tyre wear! Those are my personal opinions, but for me GT5 was by far the best of the series in terms of competition and providing some good close racing and gameplay!
For me, GT4 seemed....broken.... I could never play it without it crashing after 1hr of playing, and I found GT3 to just be my complete and utter favourite racing game, ever! It was miles ahead of it's time, and seemed so fluent to play, that even the endurance events were enjoyable. I just wish I still had a copy.
For me Gran Turismo 3 is the best, but I havent played 4 that much. I am currently playing GT3 using an emulator on the PC and my god the game is lovely. After im done, i'll give GT4 a go.
then gt4 came it was huge improvement in graphics, but i felt it had lost some spirit that gt3 had, like brake pads burning red, hot air under streets, dusts on car, coloring tracks, gt4 was realy expanded but a bit boring all graphics were same, then gt3 was more colorfull while tracks on sunset and etc, they should not remove what gt3 had on gt4, but yea gt4 on ps2 mindblowing visuals
I have GT3 as my top, because that was the peak of the series. GT4, I guess it was good will graphics and all, but I wished the setup and the sounds were the same. THEN I would've made it number one. But since they didn't do that, GT3 is still top on my list.
Needless to say from what I've played of 3 & 4 I'd have to say that 3 is my personal favorite just because of its handling model, for me GT4 may have had better graphics and more cars but a better handling system was not one thing that it had compared to the likes of GT2 and GT3. So it's Gran Turismo 3 that takes my top spot :)
To be honest, Out of 3 and 4 I'd say 4 was better. Don't get me wrong, GT3 was amazing as well but GT4 expanded on it. And included a new mode like B-Spec it just blew my mind when I first played it. GT3 and GT4 are both my favorites and always will be for the Racing games genre. =)

People seem to forget about 'Gt concept tokyo-geneva 2002' . Not saying it was the best but was more focused on arcade racing only rather than career mode.
GT4 and GT6 are my favorites. GT4 was nostalgic but I hated how some prize cars were locked away by things like 24 hour endurance races and license tests. And GT6 is amazing but making money in that game can be a pain in the ass especially after PD eventually takes down online services. I wished they made it so you could get money from arcade mode like they did with GT on the PSP.
GT had better playability,bettet controls, better music. And besides popular belief GT3 had better graphics. GT3 had more polygons per second on screen than GT4 ( that's a math fact) . GT3 prioritizes polygons and lighting quality while GT4 prioritizes resolution but with less polygon count and reflexes. But if you are playing on CRT the progressive scan or 1080i resolutions of GT4 are useless. On a PVM CRT with RGB GT3 looks better than any GT game on any LCD you can imagine, period. Any true fan with at least 2000 hours of GT knows this
@@xdgamerxdlol4206 you can save on PS2, I've been playing it yet again. You must watch out for the bug set though. My friend bought GT2 when it came out. I forget what you had to do, but it dealt with setting records at the testing track. I lost his whole car garage. Easiest way to find out is purchase the SHO Taurus, and apply the racing mod. If it's Mark Martin's #6 Valvoline car in Sim mode, it's the bug, if it's just got a Ford symbol on it, you're good. Polyphony had to change it due to licensing issues while rereleasing a non bug version. Surprisingly, they left the Valvoline livery in arcade mode.
Gran Turismo 3 was the first videogame I ever played and thus my bias is towards that game due to nostalgia, but i'd say GT4 is the best game in the series. It is a very close race between Gran Turismo 3, 4 and 5 for me.
I have played only psp, 5, 6, and sport. I think gt6 was the best racing game for ps3. And gt5 was my 1st ps3 game and its so nostalgic. Gt sport is not that good but it has awesome features and graphics

+ilias tredi boy If two discs have stopped working out of the blue, it may be your console at fault, as GT4 is such a MASSIVE game, it pushes the PS2 over its limits, and with a slim PS2, can stop the disc from working and scratch it. I had this issue with a slim PS2, then bought a fat PS2 and it has worked fine since. Hope this has helped you, Ed.

If anything makes or breaks a racing game for me (as a gamepad/controller player) it's the chase camera.. and GT2 had one of the best - one of the big reasons why I currently, in 2021, still find myself playing GT2 in my spare time on an emulator (when I could just as well play GT4.. EDIT: or ProJect Cars, or.. Assetto Corsa.. or.. you name it.. )

I never started playing the GT series until 2003 where I first started playing GT3, which I have to admit was a really good game in it's day. Have to admit I rather enjoy watching the racing more than actually playing it, which is why I was so excited when they added the directors B-spec mode on GT4. One problem though was some of the Extreme races I thought were too short unlike in GT3 and the B-Spec had some major floor,s when you had the setting on "push hard" the car would just keep driving of the road, thus randomly slowing down or crashing, which was really annoying! However the b-spec I thought was completely transformed in GT5! I really like the idea how they incorporated B-spec into a separate gaming mode from A-spec where you could create your own team of drivers and the way it works was much better than GT4 ever was! Thus the races were also longer and more exciting! There were a few floors where sometimes your car would drive around off line preventing it from getting a tow on a car in front, thus lapped cars should stay on the racing line when being lapped, as this can often cause congestion. IMO at least GT5 was the pinnacle of the GT series! GT6 however was more like a backwards step! True they did have some brilliant new cars like the Monster Sport SX4 Pikes Peak, the Audi R18, Red Bull X2014 Junior and the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo exc. But the game play was crap and poorly set up. One most of the race car events ain’t competitive enough! For instants some have LMP cars and Touring cars mixed together, how is that a race? They really should have more event races with cars that have equal performance points. Second they space the cars so far a part at the start it becomes more a game of playing catch up rather than a race, resulting in very little track action! Third the International A Class races are far too short, and the loss of the Endurance races was a major blow for me being a hardcore b-spec racer! Third the b-spec mode itself is like a downgraded version from GT5! It's not near as fun, the cars stupidly drive around off line while following another which can often result in it going over the curb and incurring an unrealistic unfair time penalty! One good thing I will say about the b-spec mode is it gives you the ability to control the car like positioning it to overtake cars cleanly without driving into the back of the car in front, as well as throttle and brake control. One final thing that brakes up the racing in the Super league is the outrageously short life of the fuel and tyre wear! Those are my personal opinions, but for me GT5 was by far the best of the series in terms of competition and providing some good close racing and gameplay!

For me, GT4 seemed....broken.... I could never play it without it crashing after 1hr of playing, and I found GT3 to just be my complete and utter favourite racing game, ever! It was miles ahead of it's time, and seemed so fluent to play, that even the endurance events were enjoyable. I just wish I still had a copy.
For me Gran Turismo 3 is the best, but I havent played 4 that much. I am currently playing GT3 using an emulator on the PC and my god the game is lovely. After im done, i'll give GT4 a go.
i think gt2 was the first gran turismo i played all i remember was going round trial mountain in a RUF.

then gt4 came it was huge improvement in graphics, but i felt it had lost some spirit that gt3 had, like brake pads burning red, hot air under streets, dusts on car, coloring tracks, gt4 was realy expanded but a bit boring all graphics were same, then gt3 was more colorfull while tracks on sunset and etc, they should not remove what gt3 had on gt4, but yea gt4 on ps2 mindblowing visuals
I have GT3 as my top, because that was the peak of the series. GT4, I guess it was good will graphics and all, but I wished the setup and the sounds were the same. THEN I would've made it number one. But since they didn't do that, GT3 is still top on my list.

Needless to say from what I've played of 3 & 4 I'd have to say that 3 is my personal favorite just because of its handling model, for me GT4 may have had better graphics and more cars but a better handling system was not one thing that it had compared to the likes of GT2 and GT3. So it's Gran Turismo 3 that takes my top spot :)
3 is good but 4 just had so many more cars and better graphics, and high speed ring came back, and a bigger gt mode, and its the game i grew up with.

To be honest, Out of 3 and 4 I'd say 4 was better. Don't get me wrong, GT3 was amazing as well but GT4 expanded on it. And included a new mode like B-Spec it just blew my mind when I first played it. GT3 and GT4 are both my favorites and always will be for the Racing games genre. =)

People seem to forget about 'Gt concept tokyo-geneva 2002' . Not saying it was the best but was more focused on arcade racing only rather than career mode.

GT4 and GT6 are my favorites. GT4 was nostalgic but I hated how some prize cars were locked away by things like 24 hour endurance races and license tests. And GT6 is amazing but making money in that game can be a pain in the ass especially after PD eventually takes down online services. I wished they made it so you could get money from arcade mode like they did with GT on the PSP.
Why does everyone hate Gran Turismo 5? I think it's very identical to GT4 and i love playing both GT4 and GT5
GT had better playability,bettet controls, better music. And besides popular belief GT3 had better graphics. GT3 had more polygons per second on screen than GT4 ( that's a math fact) . GT3 prioritizes polygons and lighting quality while GT4 prioritizes resolution but with less polygon count and reflexes. But if you are playing on CRT the progressive scan or 1080i resolutions of GT4 are useless. On a PVM CRT with RGB GT3 looks better than any GT game on any LCD you can imagine, period. Any true fan with at least 2000 hours of GT knows this

@@xdgamerxdlol4206 you can save on PS2, I've been playing it yet again. You must watch out for the bug set though. My friend bought GT2 when it came out. I forget what you had to do, but it dealt with setting records at the testing track. I lost his whole car garage.
Easiest way to find out is purchase the SHO Taurus, and apply the racing mod. If it's Mark Martin's #6 Valvoline car in Sim mode, it's the bug, if it's just got a Ford symbol on it, you're good. Polyphony had to change it due to licensing issues while rereleasing a non bug version. Surprisingly, they left the Valvoline livery in arcade mode.
Gran Turismo 3 was the first videogame I ever played and thus my bias is towards that game due to nostalgia, but i'd say GT4 is the best game in the series. It is a very close race between Gran Turismo 3, 4 and 5 for me.

I have played only psp, 5, 6, and sport. I think gt6 was the best racing game for ps3. And gt5 was my 1st ps3 game and its so nostalgic. Gt sport is not that good but it has awesome features and graphics
Agree with your list, gt6 would be 5th if it had real endurance races in it (and not 24 minute races) gt 3 was my 1st PS2 game (so for me 2nd place) and gt4 1st almost completed that :)

+ilias tredi boy If two discs have stopped working out of the blue, it may be your console at fault, as GT4 is such a MASSIVE game, it pushes the PS2 over its limits, and with a slim PS2, can stop the disc from working and scratch it. I had this issue with a slim PS2, then bought a fat PS2 and it has worked fine since.
