Just returned from Christmas Island in April. After an extensive internet search in preparation for my trip I can say with certainty that Red's Fly Shop offers the most comprehensive information to make your trip more successful. I will hold my tongue concerning the outfitter I used and will definitely use Red's Fly Shop for my next trip. Thank's guys. Your informative video's were a blessing for this first-timer.
Great video and excellent tutorial! All of your techniques will work with jack crevalle too. Thanks for taking the time while you're on such a great trip!
Yes, Totene got me into my first 25lbs GT. It was all thanks to his preparation and skills as a guide. He taught me how to hold the line in preparation to cast. That was priceless! I only wish the other guides had taught me this trick at the beginning of my trip; I had Totene on the fourth day!
Thanks Charlie, much appreciated. Keep it on the list, we are going to C.I. 6 times as a company next year. Our hosts do a great job keeping things organized and maximizing your trip. www.redsflyshop.com/christmasisland/
Thank you very much! Annoying music and bad sound in the wind, but I appreciate the props. Hoping to relive some of these moments next week. On my way!
You could, absolutely. Most folks want to have 2 rods on a big trip like this. I envision the 10 weight being able to pinch hit as either a Bonefish rod or a GT rod. I always have my guide carry an extra GT rod if that is what I am fishing for, you can get a double (guide hooks up after you do), or if you snag in the coral with one rod, GT's present just grab the other rod. For me, this system makes the most sense.
Several reasons, and we're not blind casting in surf we're often walking long distances between opportunities. Baskets are awesome if you are bombing casts for stripers in the surf but I wouldn't want to walk flats all day with one.
We'll have to agree to disagree on this. I find no discomfort whatsoever with wearing a basket all day on the flats. And there are only advantages (apart from the fact that they look a bit silly)--I can cast much more quickly and farther with a basket, and its somewhere to place your hat and sunglasses when posing for a photograph! Surprisingly few people use them, but those that do swear by them. (PS. The collapsible baskets are horrible to use and wear and consistently cause tangles)

Thanks for watching! Really appreciate it. Good luck to you!
Thanks for the loud music for the 4 minutes in the beginning. Loved it with bleeding ears :)
Yea that music sucks. Finding free music that doesn't do that can be hard.
Great video, Joe! Brings back great memories of Xmas Island. I want to say your guide looks like Totene...I can’t get enough of your casting either.
I did not get a chance to fish with Totene, but he is great and the other guests loved fishing with him. Thanks Cachi!

@@cachi-7878 He's awesome. Being READY is so key. Shots materialize in a matter of seconds.
Excellent instructional video!!! Thanks
Haven’t made it Christmas Island yet for the GTs but it’s on the list. I found your video very helpful, one of your best in my opinion. BTW, I’m

Joe such generous lesson.
this was so good, Joe !
Thanks! Let's go! 2021 is going to be awesome!
With that body style those GT’s look like bulldogs. Intense is right!
Excellent video

went 15 years ago, largest one caught was 75lbs, the other was 60 lbs. ON a 10 wt - took like 75-80 min to get each in.
Nice very good fishing
They got sharp teeth too. 60lb line gets shredded quickly.
Great stuff! Thank you
You are welcome, thanks for watching!
@@redsflyshop I planning a trip there when they reopen the island, fingers crossed!
@@SergioDiazFishing Me too! Hopefully the vaccine makes its way there soon!
GT is my grail fish.
😮
Why not just use one 11 weight?

Good video in general, but the line management advice is complicated and perhaps unnecessary. Why not use a stripping basket?

Dude your intro is way to long. It was like your main feature was your song
For sure. I'm a sucky editor. Working on getting better.
