  • Woodland Wetland Walking Garden Project Completed!
Our next project was adjacent to a wetland. A couple of months ago we met with the homeowner and the town officials to discuss what plans there were for creating gardens along the wetland border. All went well, as they were happy to hear about who we are, what we do, and what plants we were planning on using: Natives!
Before: The area along the wetlands was overgrown and had several species of invasive plants. We cleared the invasive plants that were growing, and we left the native plants that are already established and growing, such as spicebush, goldenrod, some virginia creeper and others that will make the transition for the wetland area through the garden and to the lawn.
After: We made a solitary long walking path through the middle of the garden and through the woods to enjoy a view of the garden from within it. We then planted around 95% native trees, shrubs and perennials to help support the wetland by increasing the bio-diversity and supporting so many birds, bees, butterflies and their larvae! Some plants we mixed into the existing natives are: mountain laurel, rhododendron maximum, a couple of different viburnums, amelanchier, redbud, pink dogwood, witch hazel, sweetshrub, elderberry, northern bush honeysuckle, over 150 perennials such as: swamp milkweed, liatris, monarda, amsonia, rudbeckia, woodland phlox and many others!
Mulched with natural wood and seeded the lawn area all adjacent.
