You better live in a windy area. I have one of these. (Purchased 1 month ago). You need at least 20mph of wind for it to even start. It probably gets better after several days of use, but still marginal. The inertia and apparent gear reduction drive in the generator make for huge load requirements. Note in this video that the winds a quite heavy. I would guess 30mph plus.
I am in search of a "compact", yet effective wind generator to add to my dual 35 amp hour deep cycle battery/portable generator, with Renogy 50w solar panel. Would like wind turbine as a back up when sunshine. This looks to be ideal, but would I need a separate charge controller? Thank you!
Good example of why you don't see wind turbines on motor homes and caravans the noise of that must be terrible in the camper with the vibration and blade noise. Large, heavy and noisy nice idea but in practice not much fun, better off with solar set up.
Mine is very quiet. I put shrink wrap on every single arm point on my 35 ft one of a kind prototype wind turbine tower. Its mounted on a trailer I built. With a 1,410 AH battery bank , 6 kw inverter. Duel 80 amp marine charger , renogy rover mppt controller. I am rebuilding the battery box and mounting some huge steel ATV ramps that go over the bank and can be unhitched and pulled back to access bank for watering. I'm building custom copper bus bars and re configuring electronics box too already mounted new electronics box just having moved the equipment to it yet. ruclips.net/video/S_AuPCd9rSM/видео.html
You'll destroy the turbine and fan blades. Think about it, driving 60 mph down the road is like being in a tropical storm. Plus, you have a car generator you can use to recharge your batts.

Can you operate this when driving ?
I am looking to purchasing a truck camper within the net two years and your blog is very informative.
Wow what a great truck camping boodocking addition - Love it - Julie
Thanks for the video, Bill
You're welcome.
Great Vid mike thank you.
Thanks, glad you liked it.
+Michael Smith - Can you put the supply cable into the same charge controller as your solar panels giving your batteries a further boost?
Wow, I have been frequenting your website for years...didnt know you had a RUclips channel.
How is it holding up for you??

How noisy is it when you are sleeping? You must here it from inside the camper. That's my main concern of getting one.
dat noise
what did you say? at least there is not music blasting
Seems very noisy....not talking about the wind.

I never did mount my solar panels I like having those as 200 watt 24v suitcases I can put where ever I want. I built those too.
I have 1,200 watts total but usually only use 600 watts . No need to take all 6 cases unless we have 5 campers using ac units plugged in.
Question.... Are you running a wind controller from the turd to the batteries or did you run the wires it directly to the batteries from the turd?
Sad. I really wanted to listen to what you were saying, but too much wind noise to hear.
Can u leave it up while you drive?

@@Cain-x yh and it will also cost more energy than it generates
