I just saw Joseph Conyers on PBS today. I didn’t know anything about him. I like Shostakovich & this is perfect to get to know more about him and the other players here.
I've listened to 2:30 twice. Ther is nothing wrong with the intonation. I think you misread what the expression meant. I hear some sketchy intonation in the 2nd movement. Intonation on the contrabass is always a challenge , especially up there in thumb position. These guys are are playing beautifully.
@@paulsmith7424 Nah, there's definitely a shaky note there. But as a bass player myself, I have all the respect in the world for how amazingly these guys are playing.
This is slightly humorous: the one on the left looks as if he's stalking the one on the right and about to pounce at any moment! Having said that ... this music is quite amazing and very unusual. Thank you for posting.
you’re right of course.Extreme virtuosity like Edgar Meyers or Gary Karr is hard to acheive. I’ve heard Ron Carter play out of tune, ditto Paul Chambers, but these guys have a great blend and approach.
Anki ThreeSidedTriangle is right. I play the cello. This is a double bass. There are four string instruments. Sorted by size (descending) there are: Double bass, Cello, Viola, Violin.
Amazing job! However, why? More idiomatic compositions are needed. Valentine is the best piece I've heard for bass violin. We need more compositions, not in the same vein as Valentine, per-say, but more out of the box philosophy.
Nicely done. I really enjoy listening to the contrabass. It is highly underrated.
Even the part of their tuning could sound 100x better than my whole gig playing.
Just because it's written for violin, it doesn't mean you have to play it on violin.

i wish i could play my bass as beautifully as these two men
also i wish i could play piano like the pianist
Absolutely beautiful.
Beautifully done.
I just want to say Thank You
The intonation at 2:30 and the look at 2:32... Hillarious:)

I've been looking for a transcription of this piece I can play with my daughter, who plays cello. If you have any info, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Are those guys really small, or just really far away?
That's a very big violin...
Because size does matter.
I thought they were just really small people
They play very beautiful. I think 'solo tuning scordatura' is not necessary in all solo works for double bass, like this.
Nice. real nice.
Супер просто😍👍👍👍
This is Amazing!!!
some parts are really not the most in tune but it's still pretty impressive.

aces
👍👍👍
No ones saying it, but we’re all thinking it
Concludety honestly I don’t remember
What. Saying what?
Idk if y'all realized but those aren't violins...
I can assure you that those aren't violins
Because Violin it's just a portable Bass
I never knew Cello could be so beautiful 😍
its a bass
yeah . No? I've seen basses, they're held like guitars and need speakers
@@No-pm4ss nah its an orchestral bass not electric
Cellos are way smaller, these are double basses/upright basses

At least it's not on viola

Dear commenters, a bass violin keeps being a violin.
the men playing these violins are tiny!
