- Three years ago, Ely Dagher arrived at #ElGounaFilmFestival’s #CineGouna platform with some semblance of an incomplete film, ‘The Sea Ahead’. Now, the Lebanese filmmaker has returned in a full circle moment, with the film competing in the #GFF21 Feature Narrative Competition after receiving its world premiere at Cannes.
The film tells of a young woman’s return and rediscovery of her family home and life in Beirut. It’s a unique portrayal of the complexities of Arab family life, which pushed Dagher to explore his own family relationships as we found out when we spoke to him alongside producer, Myriam Sassine and stars of the film, Manal Issa and Yara Abou Haider right after the #GFF MENA premiere.
