ooo!! so excited for you! I was natural for four years too before I locked mine!! congrats on your new journey and stay away from gels and pomades so you can enjoy fluffy locs!!
Before styling your hair, what product do you use? I heard you say stay away from gel. The only time I put gel on my hair was when I started them. My installation was finger coils. I've just had my first wash and retwist amd my loctician also mentioned no gel. She says to treat my hair like a loose natural when styling. So mist hair and moisturize before styling. Do you do this too? I don't know how I forgot to say this but your hair is gorgeous!!! 201 box braids wow! That's talent!!
Hi Tia! So in the beginning when my hair looked 100% like braids, it felt like loose natural hair and it would feel dry if I didn't put any product on it. So I used my fav product when I was a loose natural which is the Carol's Daughter Marguerite Magic Cream (It's always on sale at Target for $10). I loved it because I only needed a little bit and it didn't leave any residue in my locs. I used that after every wash from when I installed my braidlocs until September 2017. After my locs got thicker, I was more aware of product buildup and the locs didn't feel like loose natural hair anymore or regular braids. And so, when I used the magic cream on it after washing like I normally did, my locs felt sort of "heavy". So I stopped using it and I just wash my hair, do my acv rinse, and use water if I need to style for a braid out or something. I thought my locs would be so dry if I didn't use a cream before but it's soooo soft it's crazy! So I think you should experiment, but in the beginning you can get away with treating your locs like a loose natural because the strands have not yet locked together and they aren't as thick. But just make sure you pay attention and feel your locs as they mature because they won't need as much products as they mature. Hope this helps! Guurrrlll, it took me 2 whole days and I couldn't feel my arms or my bum afterwards! 🤣🤣
Yes girl! This helps a lot!! Its a journey and everyone is different...Lol just like loose natural. I keep thinking I'm going to have to care for my hair different on this journey but its the same, its just now it's with Locs. So, Get to know your hair and what makes it happy. (Me telling myself that) hahaha. I bet! But that's strength. I inatalled for four hours and my loctician said I must have gave up on my front. 😂🤣 I did! So, two days of braiding your hair length...whew!! Thank you again! I Love your channel. Can't wait to see your retwist video!
Hi Chris Queeny! For this color, I used Silk Elements Honey Blonde dye. It's a Sally Beauty brand and it's for black people hair so you get instructions for natural hair and relaxed hair when you use it. Plus, it's only $4 per box! I use 2 boxes and re-dye my hair every 4 months. Hope that helps!!
I started with 201 braids that I did by myself. They are just simple box braids that I braided and then twisted the ends so that they stay in place. Hope that helps!
Hi Shah! When I started the braids, I made sure to do a middle part and a side part, so I won't say I have a "permanent" middle part per say, but it's very defined as you can see in the video. Hope that helps!
Love it and she went right in without all that talking. Thanks 🦋💋
