As a Tucsonan, I often see YT channels visiting a few of the bigger places. It's hard to go wrong with these, but the chef from Tito & Pep knows his stuff. He included the main places local foodies usually recommend. My favorite is the chipilon from Nene. Great video! If you're in town make sure you also get a cabeza taco (Juanitos on Grant, Estillo Cajeme on First) and see a movie at the Loft (a classic from a special series or a b-movie for Mondo Monday).
I spent 30+ years in Tucson. The food scene (and music scene) has always been over the top for a city it's size. But the Border food and music (see The Molly's or The Carnivaleros) always led the way. Spent many (many) a lunch time at El Guero Canelo. One Caramelo and two dogs. I was younger then! Good times and great food!
I have been to Tucson and those dogos (as we call them here in Sonora) really taste like what we eat in Sonora, mainly those from Guero Canelo. In Sonora, the bread is normally steamed instead of toasted. I have traveled all over Mexico and as a hot dog lover I can say that the ones from Sonora are simply the best! But I would like to try some with the toasted bread, it sounds good!
Soy Hermosillense y se puede encontrar carretas en 'Hillo donde tuestan el pan, aunque si se mantiene caliente al vapor. Tambien me a tocado con el pan tostado en Agua Prieta.
This is probably one of the best videos I've seen on Tucson's eateries. We are blessed with an abundance of locally-owned, unique, interesting restaurants - the Mexican food can't be beat, but it's far from the only cuisine you'll find here. Then again, you've made me a little peckish for some carne asada so I'm off to one of my favorite joints - Paco's on East Grant Road!
@@brynmiskIt's currently 102° right now (2:13PM 07/23/24). And we're actually slightly lower than we have been recently (near 110°). Though it is close to the usual temp of upper 90s.

As someone who has only lived in Tucson for 3 months. I love Sonoran dogs! Discovered them when I moved here and have been obsessed since. BK tacos has been my favorite Sonoran dogs so far. But I still have many to try.
These guys pick and analyze these dogs absolutely to death. We here in arizona just go to our favorite place and say " those are good" end of discussion
I have lived in Tucson for over 30 years.. El Nene is def one of the best.. Your experience with too few beans there was an anomaly. Although, you didnt visit La Cora.. They do a grilled bacon wrapped whole Jalapeno thats to die for!
Wow! You went to my three favorite places! Aquí Con El Nene, El Güero Canelo and El Sinaloense!😮 You could make this anywhere with the possible exception of the buns which are usually cloud-soft with a slight sweetness. I can’t imagine eating these on grocery store hotdog buns ever!
@@mddell58- When I am in Tucson, I usually buy a bunch from Food City and ship them home to NY. When I run out, what I have found to be a good substitute is the Sam's Club Hawaiian sub roll. And it has to be the sub roll, not the hot dog bun. The sub roll is larger and can handle all the ingredients.
@@mddell58In Tucson you can get them at El Herradero or Alejandros. They are also available in Phoenix, or the surrounding communities. However I don't remember exactly where I saw them. There are at least two panaderias where I saw them.
South of Hermosillo (The Sonoran capital), we rarely add beans to the dogos, there's a few places that add refried beans with chorizo and ham/cheese instead.
I was hoping one of the places you reviewed.. was the last place. That was the one place I went to when I was in Tucson. The thought that ran thru my mind that night was ‘do I really want to go to the restaurant I’m headed to? Or just order a couple more Sonoran dogs and call it a night.’ El Sinaloense hot dog cart is the best. 🙌🏻
I'm not sure if "balance" is the right lens with which to appreciate something like this. Consider a Reuben sandwich for instance. Not even kind of balanced. It slaps you round the face with flavour. I think these are better appreciated through the lens of "the dish is more than the sum of its parts". The question should be, "to what extent is the [ingredient] elevating the [other ingredient]?"
I'm from New York and lived there until I was about 24 but since then I have lived in Arizona and I love Arizona and the food is amazing. I laugh at people now back east because it seems that the way they flavor food is with salt, pepper and ketchup and I used to be like that. Now, it's all about the spice and flavor man and I don't touch salt pepper or ketchup anymore, those ingredients should be banned. Having said that I will take a Sonoran Dog over a NY Sabrett, Chicago Vienna Beef or any other dog you wanna throw at me any day of the week!

I like BK taco the most while in Tucson. However their other menu items stand out more than the dog, and that's why I like their dog more. I also recommend that you try a Cheese Crisp if in town.
The visitor thought the hot dog was kinda small. The host should have mentioned the 'SAMMIE' at Guero Canelo, which is a Sonoran with 2 dogs inside! I always get that one . .
This is new to me and so far, I like its direction. BUT, I've never had a Sonora Dog. They are not made by anyone around here so I'm looking for his recipe take on all the dogs he tried.

I live in Obregon, Sonora. There is a street here with many hot dog venders. Everybody has their favorite. You eat them at night, sitting in a table on the sidewalk next to the vender´s cart. So, the question arises. Why didnt you drive an hour south to have a Sonoran hotdog......in Sonora?
As a kid visiting my family I would see these hot dogs outside The University of Sonora in Hermosiilo and I would think, What are they doing to these hot dogs? It doesnt seem right. Then I tasted them!
I would've left el guero canelo off this list. The hot dogs there are aweful. They used to be good way back in the day. Better places in the city. But the other spots you guys chose were more respectable.
while these may be popular in extreme northern Mexicio, they are NOT authentic Mexican food. that said, that does not mean that its not good. if someone gave me one, i would try it
Sonoran dogs are mid at best 😂. I don't use words like Tucsonan 😂 (people from Phoenix are Phoenician 😂) but it is more of a tourist favorite than local. Plenty of better food in Tucson.
