    When I visited Uzbekistan last year, especially as we drove north from Samarkand, I imagined it to be the area of the Great Superstore of the Silk Road. The area of this week's video brings to mind a similar image of a huge meeting place for the old Silk Road traders, where the great caravans rested before moving on. The hustle and bustle and noise echoing off the great towering cliffs of the Yellow River must have been awesome. Your narrative, full of intelligence, is wonderful. The carved artwork in the woodwork and metalwork is so incredibly beautiful, as are the rooftops of the minarets. For me, a magic video.

    One suggestion: in future videos, when you mention Chinese
    dynasties (for example, Tang Dynasty), can you please add the actual date or centuries as well (e.g. the 9th century)? Not everyone is familiar with Chinese history

    • @JosipC64
      @JosipC64 11 дней назад +39

      It's really not that difficult and if you're consuming Chinese content you'll have to learn the basics anyway. Yuan dynasty is the Mongol one, so if you know even just European history you know roughly when the Mongols were around. Qing dynasty is the last one, before the modern times. Ming one is in between those two. Of the dynasties before that, Tang is 7th-9th century and Han is 2000 years ago. That covers almost all the mentions of dynasties. Another way to put it is: Han = the heyday of the Roman Empire, or the time of Jesus Christ. Tang = early medieval period (Charlemagne). Yuan = Mongols. Ming = late Middle Ages. Qing: Age of Reason or around the time of the French Revolution up to the beginning of the 20th century.

    • @SajiaV-w1x

      This is indeed good advice! China has clearly recorded history of more than three thousand years, which is indeed a big obstacle for foreigners.

      @@JosipC64 Well I clicked on this video out of nowehere, and I do not know chinese history. I see you compared it to knowing when roman times where.
      Yes in an ideal world I should know when Tang dynasty is as well as I know when jesus christ was born, but I dont.
      Why not just mention the dates? This video is in english, its likley not for a chinese audience

    The photographer, Peter Sanders, spent 20 years on and off in PRC, capturing images of Muslim communities ALL over the country. I am assuming that nobody in the U.S. State Department has viewed the pictures in the book. You, yourself, captured videos of street vendors in Lhasa just beneath a big Mosque. Naturally, the real world is different from that reported in western media. The chief imam in Ürümqi addressed this issue rather well, if I may add.

    Thank you for brining us along on this wonderful excursion. Places that I am unlikely to visit in the near future but at least I get to see them and experience them through your eyes.

    Nihao Yan....Hello to you and so happy you are doing well. I enjoyed this video very much; Xunhua Salar is a very interesting county. Islam and Buddhism blended in their local culture is amazing and very rewarding that people respect each others beliefs. Those Pagodas are beautiful and well preserved. Love the architecture, the landscape your drone and music. Amazing Yellow River. The ancient Chinese style Mosques were interesting too see. Thank you for opening another window of your beautiful country China. ZaiJian...good bye Yan until the next video (it should be fascinating XUNHUA as well) you stay safe be happy. ❤💐 Elizabeth Texas USA.
