Uncle Topher You have done a great job which is so helpful for Taiwanese as an aid on learning English Please keep doing it You're so considerate We whole families all like you Your efforts is appreciated
The "pogey birds"! One of the rare treats in Ranger School, like the blueberry pancakes in Mountain Phase. I'm not sure if it's spelled "pogey" or "pogie" 😅 I guess it doesn't have proper spelling in the dictionary 😂
That military phonetic alphabet is also the aviation alphabet. My military service was in Penghu island 22~24 years ago, and I served in a medical office as unqualified medical officer because only me got university degree in that medical office. So the 200-people troop had to rely on me, the unqualified medical officer, related to their health back then. However, I was not a medical major, I was actually a science and technology major. The previous qualified medical officer whom recruited me into medical office, and the next qualified medical officer came into our troop just two days before I demobilized my troop. The military in Penghu was lack of medical resources actually. However, my interest is actually in aviation field due to my background.
Love this one! Kinda expecting something like this from you after the arrival of M1A2T. And again, you bring it to another level!! Merry Christmas, brother.
Interesting! lot of trivia. XD But I am also very curious about the M1A1. Is it really the "strongest tank on the surface" as reported by Taiwanese media?
Something like the "strongest tank" is very conditional. The M1 Abrams is designed to work alongside weapon systems like artillery and attack helicopters. Germany and South Korea also make really good tanks that could beat an Abrams depending on the terrain and the skill of the crew. A big advantage for the M1 Abrams is there is a lot of available maintenance support.
Great content! Give us more. Native Taiwanese but I’ve been living in the US for 38 years. Other than FUBAR which I heard in some war movie years ago, and the alphabet, I had never heard of the other terms.
I guess the "wire" is refered to the wire used as 鐵絲網 used to build the wall of the base, so "outside of the wire" is telling the idea of "outside of the base", not sure if this supplements.
Interesting content of this episode. And thanks for sharing that English learning application. But I’m wondering what it’ll come out if we speak with British accent? Just for curiosity 😂
Great video! I'm sure you know this, but for those who don't: pilots use the same phonetic alphabet. (I'm an instrument-rated private pilot.) 我相信您知道這一點,但對於那些不知道的人:飛行員使用相同的 Alpha, Bravo,Charlie,等。 (我是儀表級私人飛行員。)
Can you make a video to introduce the canceling culture in States? Not necessarily to share your personal opinion, just about how it became something and when.
Have you watched Good Morning Vietnam? I ROTFL when Robin Williams speaks these sentence fast: "Seeing as how the VP is such a VIP should we keep the PC on the QT because if it leaks to the VC he could end up an MIA and we'll all be put on KP."
Like this video so much! Thank you, Uncle Topher! (Raise hand) I had see a slang "Suiation Normal All Fck Up" (SANFU) Is that ok ask this slang's meaning here? Thank you again.
Fun fact: Learning a foreign language with Duolingo might lead to a deterioration of your mother tongue. The translations of standard answers in the mother tongue are often quite weird. 😂 有趣的是:用Doulingo學習外語可能會造成母語的退化。 母語標準答案的翻譯往往很詭異 😂
I want to know what catenation/liaison speech and weak forms speech are in spoken English. Does it have this too?" The frequent use of catenation/liaison and weak forms in English can significantly hinder non-native speakers' listening comprehension and speaking fluency. This is often because the pronunciation of a word can vary within a sentence due to its surrounding context. Catenation and weak forms can be a real pain for non-native English speakers when it comes to listening and speaking. It's like, you know all the words, but they sound totally different when you put them together in a sentence.
Very true! It's also really dependent on the accent. In the UK "Isn't it?" becomes "Innit?" and in the USA "What are you..." become "Whatcha" (Whatcha eatin? = What are you eating?) Watching different TV shows and movies with different accents (with subtitles) is a good way to practice.
Hello, uncle topher. I am interested in learning about outdoor land navigation skills. I wonder if there is a chance to watch you shoot such videos in the mountains of Taiwan.😂😂
@@actuallyUncleTopher It's from a guy in that marine recon battalion, but not even his Sgt Major could really figure out what that guy was trying to say by that word😂😂

Alpha, bravo, charli, delta...
“Pogey Bait”……No Pogey Bait in the US Army Ranger School….expect during the Breaks or while AirAssult Mission in Florida Phase.
The "pogey birds"! One of the rare treats in Ranger School, like the blueberry pancakes in Mountain Phase. I'm not sure if it's spelled "pogey" or "pogie" 😅 I guess it doesn't have proper spelling in the dictionary 😂
本來很嚴肅很認真看影片,5:48忍不住大笑~
Xmas 🍔
This is a fun video! Maybe one day I will find a way to slyly slide one of these terms into a casual conversation. 😀
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. Merry X-mas!
In the navy, there is another word to express "yes," which is "aye," as in "aye aye, sir."
各行各業的專業用語,真的很有趣。
這集內容真棒👍

Love that you threw in a little Branch rivalry teasing in there 😂 I see you with the crayon sandwich hahaha. Thank you for your service sir.

Thanks for sharing those very interesting slang terms.
我一直以為FUBAR是德語原來是英文難怪厄本在德文字典裡找不到
Good one !!!
Thanks ✌️
Merry Christmas my good man!
2:05 每次看到海軍陸戰隊吃蠟筆的梗都覺得很好笑~希望下次能做各種不同軍種的刻板印象梗

Hi, Captain.

1000 hamburgers in an hour!!!

might come in handy when reinforcement arrives, oorah
We got episode 2 coming Hooah? 😁 The first time I heard Hooah was from the Black Hawk down film, used by the Rangers.
I learned some of them from the “Captain Cat” story book and “Age of empires” 😂
Love the Abrams uncle topher! Our M60 having some new partners
I learned "Fubar" from Saving Private Ryan.😅
The AI translator done an almost perfect job.
Hey; Topher, Army football just won a game, 35 to 14, big wins! Fun fact, it is first time in 134 years 😉
美國叔叔聖誕佳節快樂!

My Chinese is really bad 😅

yes! exactly

Good question! I think ELSA responds best to a neutral American accent so even a Texas accent might score low 😅

Have you watched Good Morning Vietnam? I ROTFL when Robin Williams speaks these sentence fast: "Seeing as how the VP is such a VIP should we keep the PC on the QT because if it leaks to the VC he could end up an MIA and we'll all be put on KP."
😂 the US military loves to use acronyms
😂😂😂 I'm going to find that scene!
VP = vice president = 副總統
VIP = very important person = 貴賓
PC = press conference = 記者會
QT = quiet = 秘而不宣
VC = Viet Cong = 越共
MIA = missing in action = 戰地失蹤人員
KP = kitchen patrol = 伙房打雜士兵
yes , sir ! roger that , sir !
Time to “Turn Two”. Merry Christmas ( Mike Charlie)
我當兵的時候也有Barrack Party...叫做黃埔大地震,把所有內務跟服裝(Personal Belongings & Uniform) 丟在連集合場,做安全檢查😢 WTF!
Interesting! Hooah!
Aren't you supposed to fly home for Christmas? Are you good to go, captain?
Not going back to the US this year😅
Blue falcon = friendly fire? haha
Yes, it does! 🤣
Like this video so much!
Thank you, Uncle Topher!
(Raise hand)
I had see a slang "Suiation Normal All Fck Up" (SANFU)
Is that ok ask this slang's meaning here?
Thank you again.
That's also common slang! 😁 Maybe I should make a part 2?😅
hooah😂
slang so cool I need more.😚
Just realised what the title FUBAR meant for the Netflix series! 😂

所以我們內部用壁雕來形容什麼都不會的士兵。緣由可能來自BF。哈

Love it! HUA!
I remember being so excited when I got my promotion to specialist, thinking that my days of having to do all the crap was done.
我的英文要重修了
台灣很多當過兵的,經驗都是掃地掃落葉拔草做資料等等沒意義的事情
好奇國外軍人應該也有很多雜事要做,畢竟事情就在那邊
想要看到多講國外當兵日常的影片
when you have friends that's in marines or army, you're most likely gonna understand some of the slangs 🤣
"Hooah"跟台語裡的"好"(Ok, good) 音還蠻接近的 😀
Teach us some British slangs uncle Trop
😂 Sorry I don't really know much British slang 😅
看起來真不錯 😅不知道我小孩用不用
技術! 拆彈技術!
Oh that's what Blue Falcon means? no wonder some people in Taiwan call themselves Blue Falcon, it all make sense now
😂
The Blue Bird (French: L'Oiseau bleu) is a 1908 play by Belgian playwright and poet Maurice Maeterlinck.
糟糕,看完正部片還是沒理解你想讓我理解的那句話😂
阿嬤看完空中英語教室也是一樣,有看沒有懂😅
🫸🫸🫸🫸🫰🏼🤏🤏🤏🤏
Generation Kill影集有一個字叫screwby,但我一直不知道怎麼翻譯比較好😂
