Most of those rolls of foil don't even cost $1.00 each if you get them online from China. The way some of these viewers are commenting ("you wasted too much foil"), you'd think Susie was flushing Swarvoski crystals down the drain. Calm yourself ladies and don't be so darn rude! Susie is having FUN! So should YOU.
I’ve been using foils for almost 5 years. My customers love them. It’s a fast way to glam up a look and make quick cash. Not all foils are created equal and some are hit and miss. One of the issues: doesn’t stick after use. The sticky layer gets messed up after using one color and you’ll have issues trying to get another color on. I use small pieces and hold them together that way all the colors transfer at once. Another tip: after you use a section and you find it’s not sticking: you can wipe the back again with alcohol and it will clean the foil and you can keep using it. There’s different glues available but one of the best brands for foil sticking: Shellac. It is one of the stickiest brands. The base coat is also a good way to get a foil to stick. If you’re using a different brand gel polish: apply, cleanse the sticky layer off your color (gently) apply the Shellac base; cure and then stick your foil. Top coat as usual. Sorry for the wall of text. I hope this helps.
Helpful hint to get foils back into cases:. I keep a pen in with my "must have close-by" jar. Wrap the foil around the bottom of the pen. When it's wound tightly, it will be a little difficult to release. Place it into the case, pen still inserted into the center of the foil. Shake it a few times to loosen, then wind it in the opposite direction from the way you wound it onto the pen. It should release. Love the look of foils, but I flinched when you pulled the entire roll out. It's much easier to handle just pulling a little from the middle. It rolls right back into the container so much easier than pulling it from the outside. At least this is how I treat my foils, and I use them fairly often.
The foil wasn't wasted, you keep the foils until all the pattern is gone. All ya need is to smooth them out and store them flat until you use them again. Storing them flat makes it easier to use anyway because they won't curl up as bad. This set is very pretty. I'd really love to see some encapsulated(sp?). That blue would make a gorgeous backdrop for some mermaid nails! Much love and good nail vibes floating your way suzie q! 💜
Suzie has been doing nails professionally for 20+ years. She knows what she's doing. I know 99% of the negative comments are individuals with no professional experience and have not been doing this as long as Suzie. Let's stay POSITIVE! and enjoy the video!!!!!
I agree. The best nail tech ever and having to deal with these ridiculous comments is ASTOUNDING. It's foil, not sheets of 24 karat gold. I would give almost anything for Suzi to do my nails! You know your successful when you start getting hate comments from trolls. Sad.
Look at all these nail foil experts coming out thinking they know what goes behind the camera and personally know Suzie and Dawn 🤔 Stop being nasty to the most sweetest person ever. Stop acting entitled and appreciate the hard work the suzie did for this tutorial.
Hi Suzie, I have been using foils for years hun and just use cheap foil glue... never have trouble x Oh and i spray the wipe instead and then you get no over-spray x
You know Suzie’s finally hit the big one now that stupid haters suddenly pop into her channel. Congratulations Suzie! Keep it up! The haters will only gives you more money! ✊🏾💅🏽
Those people asking why she doesn't know how to nail foil despite being in the industry, wasting materials or wouldn't let her borrow their stuff. Besides, where did all the haters come from? Used to be a nice community...if you don't like the videos, watch some other channels that makes you happy.

SOPitchy No kidding. All of a sudden people are judging just because she takes a different approach to how everyone else has done different trends. This video is ONE way to use foils. She never said it was the standard. 😫

Oh my god! I got a whole bunch of nail foils for Christmas the year before last, but didn't get any foil glue so they've been sitting doing nothing. Now I can finally use them! Thank you Suzie! I can now have the foil nails of my dreams.
Depending if you use gel polish and what brand you don't need glue. I use CND Shellac and all I do is stick it on after the second coat of color before the top coat. Its still sticky from curing so it just goes right on. I've never seen the foils you have to spray with alcohol first.
Those foils are generally very cheap. She was trying out the best ways to use them/clean the back off and didn't even use that much of the foil. I enjoyed the look, thanks for another great video! :)
It just reminded me of my Australian blue opal that I’ve got. I think maybe a rose gold mixed with the green on a white base would look great and would look even more like an opal 😍
I've been using foils for over 30 years and this is the first time I've ever seen anyone use them without the foil glue you're supposed to use, makes it very easy.
Sophia Barnard True, but it's not our job to passive-aggressively force our opinions and desires either which is what a lot of people are doing recently on Suzie's videos. 😞
no one (that i've seen) are pretending to be experts, they are just pointing out the obvious. She wasted a lot of someone else's foil. But maybe we are seeing different commenters. Also, its not wrong for people to give suggestions
You are my favorite educator/demonstrator and all around joyous person. You explain the details so well that it really gives me confidence to try new things.
If you listened to Suzie you would have heard her say “these ones were kinda separate” meaning Suzie got them already messed up. Don’t listen to the negative comments Suzie, this set looks awesome, your the professional you know what your doing. I’d like to see some of the RUclips channels of all the haters “oh wait, They don’t have youtube Chanel’s.” They just want 10 seconds of fame..... Thanks for sharing another great tutorial with us. 🌸💕🌸
But she took the rainbow-ish one OUT of a tube and didn't put it back in. This will bother me for the rest of the video. (I love her! But I had to comment because that's what RUclips is for....)
NicoleET88 Why does that MATTER though? We don't know if she properly put everything back in their proper spots. She probably did that off camera, so who are *we* to judge?
lnuma92 I'm not judging and I'm not saying she didn't put everything away when she was finished... It just aggravated a little piece of OCD within me to see her take it out and not put it back after commenting on how difficult it is. Why does this make you so upset? That's the real question.
There are different techniques. Different foils, polishes, gels, glues... What I love about nail artistry is that sometimes I feel like a mad scientist, conducting experiments. Sometimes things work out exactly like I planned and often they do not. But I figure it out. Just because someone suggests how to do it different does not mean that they are putting anyone or any particular method down. AND just because someone does it different than you doesn't mean they are wrong. This is supposed to be fun people and lately the behavior and assumptions I've seen in the comments is anything but. We are a community of nail enthusiasts...let's remember why we are here = because we love nail artistry. Get over all this other petty stuff because it's bringing such negativity to such a beautiful thing!!
Nail Career Education thanx..hope your managing to stay above all this. It's really getting out of hand. Your doing us all a wonderful service and I really want people to remember that.
Guys , the foil still applied . If you want to see a foil expert , go to Robin Moses' channel . This is titled *FUN* with Nail Foils . Stop with the annoying "where's the foil glue" ? She tried out nail foils the way she did & it still worked .
Jewelzbabiii why does everyone keep telling people to go to other nail channels if they want to see it done properly? Why do people feel it's even appropriate to do so. It's flat out rude!!!
Miss B, probably bc even though Suzie is an amazing nail tech, she's not a "foil expert". so when people are constantly complaining about her foiling, they can simply go watch someone who is more experienced with this technique.
RayaSunshineee it's still rude. She didn't do bad. She wanted a patchy look. People are just mad because she used a different technique. Everyone already knows that there are other videos out there to watch.
Miss B, i understand what kind of look she wanted, and also never said that she did poorly. i personally love Suzie & her videos, i just wanted to answer your question. i think it's a shame how much hate this video has gotten over some differences in techniques.
I don’t even wear fancy nails at all. I really love just listening to you bc you’re so comforting. Is that weird? You’re wonderful and thanks for the content!
I do a LOT of transfer foil nails. I’ve found that OPI isn’t as good for sticking the foil to. Gel lacquers that are part polish work the best ie CND SHELLAC. With them you don’t have to do the step of spraying the alcohol on the foil. Also working with smaller squares of foil helps with controlling where you want to put it.
Suzie is such an amazing font of positivity and encouragement. If only some of the negative commenters had asked themselves “what would Suzie say?” before posting!
Those lights and colours are so pretty in the back. I like the camera man’s voice. Those nails are beautiful! Definitely my favorite shade of blue and I prefer blue only
Hi suzi, I love your videos! Can you try to make a full foil design? I tried so hard to make it work. I tried wooden glue, special foil glue and a bunch of other things but I can't get the foil as a full cover. LG Sonja
Through trial and error the best way I have found is - apply foil glue and let dry completely (I wait about 10 minutes) Take your foil strip and lay it over the head of a jelly stamper with the application side up - pull the strip taut but not tight and then press down onto the nail releasing the foil as you cover the nail fully but with the foil still on the nail. Finish pressing the foil around the edges and cuticle (I use my fingers and it works but a cotton swab does too) and then gently remove the foil strip from your nail. Almost no creasing this way as well which I have a great deal of trouble with since my nails are very very curved. I'm not a professional but this is the way I have found that works the best. Good luck.
K.A. Metcafe thanks for the good info.. I've not used these before just got my first set in the other day and was curious as to a good method!! Thanks from me too!!! I have a question about her wiping the back off..how do u know if it need to?? So far I only have clear/translucent types
Have you tried allowing the foil glue to dry for 10 to 15 min AND wiping the back of the foil like Susie did. Sometimes that backing film can be so thick and nasty.
K.A. Metcafe great tips xx also these foils can be used with topcoat. It’s the method I use on my neighbours daughter, her mum doesn’t want gel or glue on her but is ok about topcoat. It’s mostly the same as other methods just wait until the topcoat is almost dry (just a hint of tackiness left) press fairly firmly and whip of the foil. It’s much faster than glue. I don’t know how long it holds up though as generally it’s only on her for a night or two, over the weekend or for a party. I love the stamper idea so I’ll give that a go next time I use foils. Xx
I like Moyra foil stamping polishes, you use them normal with a stamper and once the nail is stamped use a powder or foil . They stick great and i don't even remove the back with alcohol.
I recently subscribed to this channel. I have a nerve condition that hurts whenever someone touches me. So, I do my own nails and I like the tips and tricks the pros show to use the products. I have learned a lot since watching Suzie's videos. Some techniques like the foil really look fun and easy. My manicures look so much better. Thank you for sharing these and I look forward to seeing more.
I know this video is a couple of years old but I just bought some foils and I watched this video for inspiration! I am even more excited to use my foils when I fill my nails next week!
I was wondering if u can do a video on how to keep gel polish from peeling off. Mine keeps peeling on me but I do what the steps say. Not sure what I'm doing wrong
Andrea Poole Are you doing priper prep and Prime steps? Are you removing all oil and dust with alcohol? Are you removing all the dead skin from the surface of the nail? There's a lot of variable to why the gel peeled. Try being more descriptive. 🙂
Andrea Poole Is it peeling off at the back or front? If it's peeling from the back near the cuticle, it's a prepping issue. If it's from the front, you have to cap the free edge. It could even be faulty application. List all the steps you're doing so we can get to the root of the problem. 🤔
Hmmm I've never seen anyone do foils like this...normally they have a glue that comes with it. You paint the glue on...it goes on almost blue and it dries clear..when it's dry you put it on your nail. I've never seen anyone wipe the back of them either...isnt that what helps it stick to the nail?? 🤔 Looks nice though...i just think it would have been a lot easier with the glue and without spraying the back but to each their own. ❤
i was just about to ask this very question. know about the glue and ok the sticky layer from the gel substitutes but never knew about the wiping off of the back with alcohol, always thought the backing is what helped it stick. still very pretty though!
That backing that she's wiping off keeps the foil from sticking better. It works so much better without it. Watch a few old school videos. Also applying it to gel that has a tacky layer brings a whole new twist to the game. Yes there is foil glue and there are gels that work without it.
The backing is for shipping purposes so that the foil doesn't transfer on to itself during shipment, or while it's stored away in your drawer. Plus, during climate change the foil will go funky and the backing keeps it from going all caca.
I just realized I was never subscribed to you and you are the one who taught me so much about nails! I am now subscribed. I use you techniques all the time when working on my clients. Also the red green yellow and black reminds me of Jamaica
Very cool Suzie❗️ You try so many different techniques and they are all great... You keep us all intrigued, never know what is coming up next❗️Thanks for sharing❗️Until next time.
gamergirl 5522 If you love your nails, I wouldn't do it. The acrylic would need something to hold on to to say, and peel off base coat isn't made for to work with acrylic. And if really brand of acrylic system was use and it just so happens to bond, trying to force the acrylic off with probably cause you to rip your nail as well. Yes, I know Christine of SimplyNailogical did it with the dip powder system, but you have to keep 2 things in mind: by lucky attempt it worked, and she isn't a licensed professional so her advice wouldn't be the most note-worthy. Trend carefully and take care. 🙃
lnuma92 I have yet to see Cristine's video on that, actually. I don't normally do nails, but I like seeing how things turn out. Thank you for the advice!
Your videos are always so calm and relaxing. 😊 I use foil glue which can be difficult and doesn’t always work but now I really wanna try it over gel polish!
Beautiful in the end, but for it to work better you need to remove the sticky layer for gel and make sure the regular polish is dried. Then apply foil glue, which would transfer better.
Ansley Chan Not really. Having a good sticky gel polish is the key. CND Shellac has the best sticky layer. The foil adhesive can be tricky if you don't apply it correctly.
Kathy, there is no right or wrong way. I'm just giving Suzie an option. Maybe you like the gel polish way better, and I like the foul glue better. I'm just giving Suzie an idea so maybe it can be easier for her. So you can't say that I'm wrong.
Leanne I'm giving advice. Not telling anyone how to do this technique. I'm am a licensed nail tech who is experienced in applying foil. It's one of my favorite things to do. Trust me, I've got this down. Many gel polishes don't have a tacky enough layer for foil to stick. Was a suggestion.
Thanks for showing us this technique! I've only ever done foils as a complete transfer with glue, so I was really interested to see how you got that sort of mottled effect. It reminds me a little of the earth and the sea

Yep! Wish I lived in Canada! I'd go to Suzi for my nails xx
It's like making your own jewelrys on the nails😊
So beautiful and skilled!
Everyone needs to take a freaking chill pill my goodness lol
I have never seen this method with foils before, very neat. Turned out great!
you can also use the foil glue ....
but this is a new way of doing this that i never new so thank you
I don't study nail tech but I would love to have Suzie as a teacher ! She's so approachable and calm ! I love your work, it's so pretty.
I have some foils but haven’t used yet! Love the way u did it 💖
I have foil nails! My cousin is a nail tech and owner of her own shop so I got a discount for great service and fantastic nails. I love them!
Good luck.
Thanks I'll try it
Xx
Suzie, PLEASE do a geode inspired nail where you clear cap actual crystals into the design! That would look AMAZING! 💚
When is your new nail kit coming out
Lol.. The colors look like a globe.... Beautiful
Your nails look like Lapis Lazuli
That's what I thought too!
Briana27 Creangă Steven Universe!?
Lapis lazuli doesn't have any green tones. The nails are more reminiscent of a black Australian opal with blue & green luster.
nec.ro.mantic ohh...haven't thought of that. Yeah , they kinda look like an australian opal
Thank you, nec.ro.mantic. I wasn't getting any lapis vibes from this at all, so I was smooth about to say something.
I love the way the nails turned out
Omg you should do asmr
Ellie Does Life THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING! 😂
Ellie Does Life Unintentional ASMR is the best ASMR 😀
Yessss! I can't sleep unless there's something going on in the background and Suzie would be so perfect.
For some reason this reminds me of around the world lol green and blue. Very pretty!
Is it weird that the nails remind me of the earth???
Aika Yamamoto nope I thought that too!!
Why would it be weird to think that ? Just say it reminds you of the earth .
My daughter said the same thing. They're stunning
My daughter said the same thing lol
That’s what i thought when i saw the reveals! So pretty
Love the foils from dollar nail art! And her foil glue is amazing! TFS!
Where do I get those from hon?look her up on what what’s her handle please and thank u in advance
I like Moyra foil stamping polishes, you use them normal with a stamper and once the nail is stamped use a powder or foil . They stick great and i don't even remove the back with alcohol.
Meowleficent I just purchased the stamping gels and a bottle of the black foil stamping polish. I am about to be a stamping foiling fool!
...or a stamping fooling foil lol 😂
I still have to try the gels, but now that i finally have a lamp i will . My first design will be the shiny gel on matte nails :)
Thank you for sharing these and I look forward to seeing more.
you are an artist. i want you to do my nails.😊
I know this video is a couple of years old but I just bought some foils and I watched this video for inspiration! I am even more excited to use my foils when I fill my nails next week!
looks like the Earth seen from space!
That looks so gorgeous! They kinda look like planet Earth, it'd be a fun design to do for Earth Day. :)
We love Suzie and appreciate all that she does!
To the
Keyboard know it all's. . . . Do you even have content bro?
I’m gobsmacked, I genuinely assumed foils were nail wraps and you had some sort of way, of transferring them on to nails. This is such a fun project
They just may have had an arrangement where Suzi would replace what she used? You don't know the circumstances..
Your nails look like jewels! I could wear that design as a pendant on a silver chain and it would look bomb!
I was wondering if u can do a video on how to keep gel polish from peeling off. Mine keeps peeling on me but I do what the steps say. Not sure what I'm doing wrong
Andrea Poole
Are you doing priper prep and Prime steps? Are you removing all oil and dust with alcohol? Are you removing all the dead skin from the surface of the nail?
There's a lot of variable to why the gel peeled. Try being more descriptive. 🙂
lnuma92 I am doing that, an it still peels off. Idk what I do wrong.
Andrea Poole
Is it peeling off at the back or front? If it's peeling from the back near the cuticle, it's a prepping issue. If it's from the front, you have to cap the free edge. It could even be faulty application.
List all the steps you're doing so we can get to the root of the problem. 🤔
The layers of gel might be thick do really thin coats
Could it be the product? I've tried some iffy off-brand gel polishes that weren't so good.
I love all of your instructions. You are the only one I watch.
I dont think you need to remove the backing suzie, im pretty sure theyll apply fine without wiping the brown bit off..
Suzie you’re literally an angel and the scene where you’re painting you’re nails seems out of a Wes Anderson’s movie
Amazing beautiful nails, Suzi!
It looks like a gemstone/crystal to me and omg I love it!!! So pretty and sparkly
YAY GOT HERE JUST IN TIME Great video I enjoyed it a ton!
I love that color combo. It reminds me of the ocean
I was shocked at how much foil was wasted too. I literally cringed
The backing is for shipping purposes so that the foil doesn't transfer on to itself during shipment, or while it's stored away in your drawer. Plus, during climate change the foil will go funky and the backing keeps it from going all caca.
Most foils come ready to use but the ones with the brown backing have to be sprayed with alcohol to remove the backing first or else they won't stick.
I just realized I was never subscribed to you and you are the one who taught me so much about nails! I am now subscribed. I use you techniques all the time when working on my clients. Also the red green yellow and black reminds me of Jamaica
Cmon people ITS FOIL LOL. Don’t blame Suzie for wasting, it’s her command to do what she wants.
Very shiny! Very pretty! * becomes mesmerized *
Keeping "Suzie" at Bay!
Very cool Suzie❗️ You try so many different techniques and they are all great... You keep us all intrigued, never know what is coming up next❗️Thanks for sharing❗️Until next time.
You are the best I don’t care 🤷♀️ what they say I love all your mess 😘😘😘😘💅🏻💅🏻💅🏻
Thank you so much for showing us the right way to get beautiful nails!!!
What would happen if you used a peel-off base coat before you put on acrylics? Can you put on a peel-off base coat on top of the acrylics?
gamergirl 5522
If you love your nails, I wouldn't do it.
What do you mean peel of base coat before acrylic? Do you mean building acrylic on the nail after you’ve put on the peel of base?
Leanne
Pretty much. Have seen and heard horror stories. Scary stuff. 😫
Inuma92, I was just confused about her question lol. I was wondering why someone would want to put a peel on base before acrylic. Lol
Thanks for your pretty cool long nails, Suzie! Your works and longnails make me be glad!!!
I wouldn’t have let Suzie barrow my nail foils. She wasted so much hahaha
You need to borrow * a dictionary.
If there’s no right or wrong way? Who are you to say how it should be done?
Leanne I'm giving advice. Not telling anyone how to do this technique.
I'm am a licensed nail tech who is experienced in applying foil. It's one of my favorite things to do. Trust me, I've got this down.
Many gel polishes don't have a tacky enough layer for foil to stick.
Was a suggestion.
Ansley Chan We both gave suggestions. You'res was a different one than mine.
My granddaughter and I love your videos!!!
What about foil glue? I've seen some people get the whole design on the nail
Jenny she is using gel polish so she doesn’t need glue, just the sticky layer will do.
I have tried so many other ways that dont work. So I will be trying this out. Thank you Suzie xxx
It works best with a foil adhesive than the inhibition layer of gel!
Thanks for showing us this technique! I've only ever done foils as a complete transfer with glue, so I was really interested to see how you got that sort of mottled effect. It reminds me a little of the earth and the sea
Do the cameraman’s nails
Wow I didn't expect that small cinematic masterpiece of you applying the polish, so cool!
