    Ya Skrillex got nothing on this guy. Squarepusher is the best I've heard. It is the most syncopated. I listen to jazz a lot and this is just as fulfilling to me especially when I don't feel like hearing saxophones and real instruments.

    It's a different set of skills. Creating dynamics and change is easier in a band than just using a computer and controllers, and depending on what you do with your equipment the actions can be "technically difficult." But I don't care about skill when it comes to music, I only care about the creativity. What I hate the most in music is guitar-wankers who play 30 notes a second and insanely technical stuff just for the sake of technique.

    I feel the same way. I was totally stoked on this album from the first time I listened to it. Especially the album's opening track...it has a very weird quality to to it, like he's seen what all of these hyped out mainstream electronic acts have done in the last 3 years and turned around and said--"hey I can run circles around U guys...and have 'fun' while I'm doing it!". Ufabulum fookin' rocks!

    that was my first impression of squarepusher, i first heard his album 'do you know squarepusher' 10 years ago. it took a second listening a year later for me to get into it. i think the most challenging part of his music is that it's not intended to be aesthetically pleasing.
    you're welcome to your opinion, but try another listen some time.

    What we can tell from every travel we make to Europe’s eastern countries is that there are so many lovely people living there. Too many stereotypes out there!

  • @OmegaSwitch
    @OmegaSwitch 11 лет назад

    He's so beyond what he's trying to emulate here. I don't understand why he's taken on this persona and the sound here. What he created more than 10 years ago was so much more intricate than what he presents here, despite the visual presentation. Check out his '01 Coachella performance... he didn't have the visual presentation but he had more than enough in terms of sonic presentation. Yet this is still incredibly fucking epic, I love it...

  • @stevebelzer
    @stevebelzer 11 лет назад

    Absolutely. Straight up EDM can be fun at times, but it gets really boring listening to the same beat for hours on end. I really love artists that know how to fuck with rhythm, that know how to mess with my expectations and throw me off rather than just record everything within the boundaries of a pre-defined formula that I can easily digest.

  • @stevebelzer
    @stevebelzer 11 лет назад

    Have you listened to Ufabulum? All of it? This is one of the tamer tracks. The album might not be quite as frenetic as his older stuff, but it gets pretty nuts- nothing I'd call "commercially accessible." Check out The Metallurgist or 303 Scopem Hard from the same album if you disagree. Fucking love Ufabulum as much as anything Squarepusher's come out with- Space Jazz madness!

    Yeh I suppose he has that same headrush drum n bass style that Richard has and I suppose he borrowed a bit from Polygon Window - Untitled ( ) with the track Drax 2. But no doubt Richard borrows from Tom too, he has being playing that unreleased Squarepusher track in his sets since at Torino 2005.

  • @astroboomboy
    @astroboomboy 12 лет назад

    Depends entirely how you do it, if you only focus on a filter and a few effects, sure, I agree. However, there are producers who do much more live, like play beast live on a midi controller (like Maschine). But in a traditional sense, sure, playing an instrument requires more skill. At the same time, having played guitar in several bands, after having played the same pattern thousands of times, it kind of becomes automatic...

  • @astroboomboy
    @astroboomboy 12 лет назад

    I guess it's impossible to know for sure, but most of these shows the "performer" plays around with sequences of sounds already recorded as audio or midi and changes the tempo, pitch, scales, and the routing of effects. In my opinion (humbly), it's not that much different theoretically than a band performing sequences of arranged music that they have agreed upon.

    In what manner is this "live"? I'm not knocking Tom or Ufabulum because I love both, but this sounds identical to the studio album. What is it he's doing, playing the whole thing from scratch, or...?

  • @JacobPadlock

    Hey, I dig your response to this vid, cuz it sounds like you are a trU squarepusher fan...HOWEVER, the album Ufabulum is fucking amzing, I think. It does have this kinda "polished" quality to it which may remind one of the commercial electro acts out there (like Daft Punk), but I think it is one of his best albums for sure--it gets extremely crazy and creative. I kinda think of it as his twisted "re-interpretation" of mainstream 'performance' electronic musicians. It's worth checking out!

  • @weatherkop
    @weatherkop 11 лет назад

    I would say he is re-assembling, live editing and/or playing extended versions of the tracks that the song consists of. Being a computer musician usually means being musician, composer and producer at the same time so there are nuances that may not be so noticeable. Plus, in the fuckery parts I'm sure is where he actually makes the most editing.

    well if you want to mix with 8 bit sounds, remastering them making them 28 bits studio quality, is cheating imho.
    i that, in this digital age, he takes a step back to old snes music, wich was not beautyful because of the epic instruments, but by composition is great.. (making something nice with that little resources..)
