I remember an ad on railway safety where a family was on a walk through a forest and the 2 kids were playing eye spy and the letter was T and the girl walks onto the tracks and asked if the word is track and then she suddenly get hit by a train, and then the slogan "see track, think train". Then the childs father is cradling the dead boy weeping as the camera pans into the drivers face and he's just thinking to himself 'wtf have I done?'. Like say the Coronation... or a music festival..
The NHS cant always provide paramedics to be on standby in case of accidents at events... not when they might be needed for any one of a million different emergencies all over the country
So for public events like Glastonbury or Download music festival the Charity St. John Ambulance is always available to rota first aid volunteers to be present

dude, i remember the adds i grew up with like these. the only difference is i live in canada.
there was one where a guy fell down the stairs and severely broke his legs, and the other where someone dumped a pot of boiling water on himself.

the bad part is that because we grew up watching these adverts, we're desensitised to this type of stuff. I think it's the reason we have a lot of dark humor and can make jokes about death and stuff is because of the fact we watched this in our childhood

Very moved by your reaction - these safety and charitable ads are designed to make us think and feel. So many of us are very fortunate to live in a relatively safe environment, and take our health and freedoms for granted, these miniature stories take us out of our comfort zone for good reasons.

I would be interested to see some examples of American public information short films. It my also be worth showing some of the 1970s Public Information films, like the kid dying in the fridge, a gang of children getting killed by numerous hazards on a farm and my favourite the one called “Dark and Lonely Water”, which is the one in which the monk’s cowl and habit are left floating in a puddle at the end.

The simple fact that adults now my age (25) are saying “this made me think and remember” shows how effective these are. Shock value is a dish best served cold. Humans react to it better than positivity.

These are all Public Information Films (what Americans call PSAs) or their charity adverts. As you can see, the UK government and British charities do *NOT* fuck around.
I think the most horrific advert I've ever seen was from the NSPCC, the first one of their FULL STOP campaign, the camera focuses on something a child would have - a Rupert the Bear mug, a Spice Girls or David Backham poster (as it was the 1990s) only the characters would be pictured covering their eyes. Meanwhile off camera, the sound of a child being abused or neglected is played loud.
Another one was from the NHS warning about fake mediciations, where a man is shown taking his pills... then pulling a dead rat from his throat while a voiceover states that fake mediciations can actually be rat poison.
And then there are our drink driving adverts, there's a particularly notable one from Northern Ireland.

As far as I know Motor Neurone Disease or MND is known as ALS or Lou Gehrigs Disease in America after a baseball player who died from it. In the UK Sir Stephen Hawking the physicist is the most famous person who had it.

I think they made a very good choice using Emma Thompson (Love Actually, Alan Rickman's character's wife) for the sex trafficking one, as that would take some seriously good acting for something so brutal to perform, even though a lot's implied.
