Can we get a longer video where we get to see your feral fish in the sump and how the cold affected the numbers and species that survived if possible PLEASEEEEE
Yes, we will try to do one soon. We are still getting some surprises on survivorship. Yesterday when I did the dawn check of the greenhouses, a cichlid had jumped from the floor gutter onto the concrete at the front of Greenhouse 1. Fortunately for her, she hadn't been there long. I returned her to the floor gutter, and she swam away. What surprised me is that she was a 6" Jack Dempsey (Cichlasoma octofasciata). I thought we had lost all of them, but apparently at least one survived. I'll be watching for others. Maybe we'll see some when we do underwater filming. Charles
Thank you. There is variation in this fish that I'd like to pursue. This summer we are rebuilding Greenhouse 3 and will add probably 20 300-gallon breeding vats. That will give me room to experiment with some of the color varieties of this fish. Charles
The OB pattern on these fish can be hard to detect since what would be black blotches are simply the same color as the gold background. It is a difficult strain to maintain good red coloration. I hope to remedy this via selection of breeders as our fry production recovers. Charles
There are many opportunities for injuries. The process of netting them from the vats can cause abrasions if the net catches them against the vat side. Charles
@@elaineluikart5459 I get spined occasionally by large cichlids. Also, large plecos ahve wicked barbs on their scales. I've learned to pick them up by their heads to avoid the barbs. Charles
That varies a lot. Recently, the quantities are down due to the loss of breeding stock (especially livebearers) in the Texas Winter Storm and its aftermath. At full production, we sell thousands. Charles
We haven't set up Hypostomus (common large pleco) breeders; they just breed naturally in sumps. I have set aside three Hypostomus that survived both the very low temperatures and the ammonia spike in Greenhouse 3 when we disconnected it from the Greenhouse 2 sump. I plan to setting them up in a 1200-gallon vat outside this summer for breeding. We found that some Ancistrus managed to survive in the Greenhouse 1 floor gutter and are reproducing there. I did set up a pair of Ancistrus that Carl had and some Ancistrus acquired from Bristlenose Factory, but I haven't gotten around to checking on them. We are running way behind on processing breeding vats due to labor shortages. Charles

Charles tells the fish to settle down, and they do.
Charles, the Fish Whisperer !!!
Maybe, but then there are many examples of them ignoring my advice...very similar to our children.

Vă salut și respect munca dumneavoastră de aici din România.
Thank you. What fish are you raising?

Love you videos😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you.

We need a sump update!
We are planning a video (soon I hope) including underwater shots of the sumps and floor gutters of both Greenhouse 1 and Greenhouse 2.
Charles
I love the underwater videos!
@@goliadfarms7029 you are the practicly the only 1s to show sailfin mollies and swordtails
@@elaineluikart5459 As our livebearers recover from the Texas Winter Storm, we'll be doing more videos of them.

Very informative. Keep them videos coming. Thanks.
Thank you for watching them. There are more on the way.

Good morning Charles 🐠🐟☺️
Good morning, Paul. Just another typical spring day here. 81F!

Mine won't stay true do to the fact there was an OB strain in there at one time. They are getting better though. Thanks again Charles.

Looking good Charles! I wonder how that one fish got injured.

@@goliadfarms7029 i like how you can handle them with your fingers. I started doing that but i forgot Corydoras have stickers. He reminded me!

I have seen most of your videos and I am wondering how many fish you sell per month? Just curious. 🙂

Do you have any updates on the pleco and ancistrus breeders you set up about a year ago?
