"With just a few days left until the new year, 2022 has already set a grim record: so far at least 6,036 children across the United States have been killed or injured by gunfire, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
As of Tuesday, 306 children under age 12 were killed by guns and another 668 were injured nationwide. For those ages 12-17, 1,328 were killed and 3,734 were injured.
Those figures include the 19 kids-but not the two adults-killed in the May 24 mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, and come just a few weeks after the nation marked the 10th anniversary of the massacre of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

In Norway 29 people were killed by violence in 2021. The perpetrators are of course almost all men. None of the victims were less than 10 years of age, and 2 were 10-17. In 7 of the cases guns were used, and no children were victims. The population was 5.4 million. For the years 2011-2021, in such cases the use of knives as a weapon is on top of the stats at 52%, and guns are at 30%. As far as I know from news coverage, there were no cases in 2021 that could be classified as terrorism. The incident in Kongsberg where 5 people were killed by an archer, was clearly a psychiatric case, and can probably be considered somewhat of an anomaly or an outlier in the stats. If we exclude this particular case, in almost all cases the victim and the perpetrator knew each other. The public in Norway has little reason to worry about their safety, even in the capital Oslo. But violence is on the rise, slowly.

The original purpose of the populace having guns Is to prevent any clan destined groups from taking over the government , It was to create a balance a power between the government and the populace . They were not supposed to know where all the guns are Are who has them because they would be the 1st ones on the list to be rounded up . The right to bear arms is about self protection but it's primary purpose was a series of checks and balances . America is the furthest thing from a homogeneous or Monotheistic nation, There are so many different groups of people who could conflict with each other. This is why the matrix for gun control in the United States and the UK have nothing in common with each other. I think it's great that they have the liberty or the luxury of being able to have cops that don't have guns . They probably care more about their common citizen than we do. America is always looking for a group of people to throw into the bus and blame for all the problems And scape Goat then. And there is already insane corruption and their Always has been . I would love to live in hippy land , But that is far from the land we live in . As much as the temptation there is to get rid of all the guns It could lead to dynamic that is much much worse . Regardless of what the political parties are telling us with the current instability I suspect that maybe they all feel safer Knowing that the populace is armed . Although they appear to be targeting certain groups Did they find the most threatening. Particularly all this season to ex military far right wing . Here is the thing with the UK, you can own a gun for legitimate reasons, for sports shooting, for hunting, or for farmers with pest control. You cannot own what you would classify as Assualt weapons, or as we refer to them Dick Extensions. There is absolutely no need for that level of firepower even in home defence.
The process is rigorous, criminals cannot own a gun legally, you have background check at a local and national level.
The argument Americans aways drone on about is home defence, you know what, we have home invasions too, nobody gets shot. You can confront the robber if you wish and have the right to defend your home, thieves don't carry guns because they are not breaking into a place where they will be shot.
    It's a vicious circle.
Sadly for the US Pandora's box is already open and you are just going to see more and more deaths in an increasingly divided paranoid society.
But like most things, Europe does it better, Gun control, (where we do own guns and very few people are shot) to Education, Healthcare, Benefits, tolerance of others, Even poverty.

This was covered in the 2008 supreme court ruling DC V. Heller.
      The ruling Held:
      1. The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. Pp. 2-53.
      (a) The Amendment’s prefatory clause announces a purpose, but does not limit or expand the scope of the second part, the operative clause. The operative clause’s text and history demonstrate that it connotes an individual right to keep and bear arms. Pp. 2-22.
      (b) The prefatory clause comports with the Court’s interpretation of the operative clause. The “militia” comprised all males physically capable of acting in concert for the common defense. The Antifederalists feared that the Federal Government would disarm the people in order to disable this citizens’ militia, enabling a politicized standing army or a select militia to rule. The response was to deny Congress power to abridge the ancient right of individuals to keep and bear arms, so that the ideal of a citizens’ militia would be preserved. Pp. 22-28.
      -(Cornell Law School)
So if you were wondering why no one cares about the 'militia' part of the 2nd anymore, that is why. It was legally analyzed and decoupled from it some years ago now.

I personally have mixed feelings about the concept and doubts about it's viability, but it would certainly encourage people who sell guns to actually pay attention to who they are selling to.
