I think you should start each podcast with ‘what have you been driving this week?’ Andrew seems to have about 3 press cars on the go at any one time, case in point this week: Renault 5 EV, Bentley Continental GT, and a 992.2 Carrera.
After 30 years I still miss my wife's 2CV. The ride. The roadholding. The gear change, 2-3-2 especially. Unfortunately my wife didn't enjoy having ice on the inside of the screen on the school run... A "fast " one raced at Castle Combe a year or two ago and I bet the pilot had the most fun out there.
I've had my 2CV for 23 years. I'll never get rid of it. I've been all over the UK, Ireland, and Europe. Bought with 70k miles on the clock, it's now sitting on 276k miles.
Great podcast. Don’t forget hidden gems 309 GTI, 104 ZS, Renault 19 turbo, ZX Volcane etc. More episodes with French and Italian metal please. RUclips is covered by too much German.
Great Podcast. French 80's and 90's and 00's cars were some of the Greatest Cars. I've had two 405 SRi's a 306 DTurbo and currently a Clio Williams, and i have to say if you haven't driven at least one French Car from this Period, you are Seriously missing out. The 405's were allround Great Cars. Super Comfy on a long drive but go down a Country and they handled extremely well with a Grear Ride Handling balance. The Lowered 306 i had was a Go Kart and would Oversteer like no other FWD ( and better than a lot of RWD cars) The Clio is awesome to drive and frankly you can get it to cover distance at an astonishing rate with a Rear which you could steer on the Throttle which I've never had it bite back like a 205 Gti would!!
My Renault R5 Turbo 2 has been my dream car since I first bought a Radio Shack Renault R5 Turbo radio control car around 1981. For 37 years I waited for the opportunity to buy one and now that I get to experience it everyday, I can say it is everything I hoped it would be. The car is full of character... Imperfection is something to be celebrated and the French do it better than anybody. I'm totally addicted to French cars.
I'm very fond of the class of French hatchbacks. The type with 2.0l 170hp and around 1000kg is such good fun on a twisty back road. Relatively cheap to run, good steering. The french gearboxes could be better. Had a Clio Rs and a 206 RC. Loved them both. Not quite as good as a Honda CRX, Civic EG9. The 90ies/00s japanese hatches though are generally just a tad better. Some even with double wishbone suspension. Engines with 100hp/litre.
the thing is, 80s, 90s and early 2000s small cars needed to drive good because there weren't particularly safe and beside ABS(maybe not even that) you had nothing in terms of assistance; thus, they needed to have a good chassis setup, a good balance and good responsiveness. Now, cars are steering themselves out of potential crashes, are twice the size and weight and so, most probably, manufacturers don't seem to believe a good handling is something important in a regular, A to B, vehicle. Sure, they'll spend a fortune setting up a premium sports car..but a regular one, when they can simply put all those active systems in place, why they should bother?! as for the electric fun cars, I am not aware if you know but, most of the ppl in the real world cannot afford 100k new cars, like this supersport renault 5 electric will cost; what I do not understand is why you are pushing for 500+ hp on EVs..no one needs them; what we need is more mx5 and brz style of cars.., light, nimble, fun, manual and rwd. As long as EVs will be gearless, they will not get any driver involved to the point of how a car with the attributes of an mx5 would, they simply cannot!, speed(lots of power/hp) doesn't and can't replace involvement and engagement behind the wheel.
As pioneers of, slow light cars are often better cars. I have some sympathy for your opinion but do think you are labouring the point slightly. The 60-100 times for something like an XS would be around 20-30 seconds, not much excitment in that! And no mention of Citroens fastest hatchback, the BX 16V. Great high reving engine, 160bhp NA 1.9 and only 1070kgs. Faster than the VW GTI 16v, faster than the Renault 5 GT, faster than the Astra GTE 16v, Peugeot 405 Mi16, faster than any other European NA hatch of its period (Can you tell I own one? 😂). Might be nice to hear you occasionally refer to the excitement of acceleration and performance that modern, heavy cars provide. I know you often prefer the slower models as 'a better balance' but the thrill of pulling a higher G is something of interest to many a performance car buyer too, or is that just me? My current favourite car I own does 60-100, on my vbox, in well under 3 seconds and I defy anyone to drive it without having fun.

306 rallye was my personal favourite. A forgotten gem. Last of the old school pugs.

Great episode
Mehari is in my dream 5 car garage!
I had a citroen zx volcane 2.0. Its so easy to thrash point to point. I wasn't my favourite but so easy to drive fast
The vts was the 16v fast one .
Not sure if I missed it , was there no mention of the AX GT ?
Yes correct, but all the max power lot had VTRs as they were cheaper and occasionally offered with free insurance (paid for by Citroen).
For me still the best is Renault 1 Williams, French nowadays really missing proper hothach
R26R is heaven
Definition Derby; getting slapped by Volvo😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Best podcast yet, cars I have actually driven and can relate too. Huge regret in selling a 1.9 gti in 2014......long life French shit boxes

Luxury is overrated. Any tin can will do.
This is a brilliant video of a performance 2cv, looks hilarious: ruclips.net/video/JUR7p6TX0FE/видео.htmlsi=t6ZWHOkxdw0QErP7
